It might not be the biggest MMORPG launch of the year, what with no new races or classes, but there's no denying the quality in The Siege of Mirkwood. It's a great addition to an already solid online experience, delivering more content for the loyal fan base and giving prospective players a great excuse to jump into Middle Earth for the first time.
Mirkwood is a great expansion, but compared to Moria, its quest and instance content is fairly limited. This is because the expansion was also introducing the Skirmish system, an entire new area of the game.
Turbine has given Mirkwood the same amount of love and great gameplay that Moria and Shadows of Angmar have and they have thrown in a great new gameplay mechanic with the skirmish system. On top of all of that, a lot of the little things were polished.

wow massive let down compared to moria... bad quest design and i mean really bad design in fact nearly everything in mirkwood has been badly designed... the placement of NPCs, certain quest objectives, quests matching/ moving on with ur level and the overall environment...

LOTR Online is a nice MMO. The graphics are very good, and the characters are responsive. With that said, the game holds true to the dated button mashing for combat skills and while the scenery is interesting, the linear quest line feels very, "I have already done this a thousand times in other games." If not for the lore that comes with the ever popular Lord of the Rings Trilogy, this would be just another nameless MMO using a cookie cutter paradigm. Still, it is free to play so the worst you can do is loose a few hours of your life by trying it out. Who knows, it may be more to you liking.

So yea its a 20Dollar patch but, well....Whats not to like? New dungeons, beautiful scenery, and a sense that you are helping in the fight against Dol Guldur, as well as a continuation on the Epic story, I'll gladly pay for quality.

Advances the game's storyline a bit and adds some fine new features, the best of which is the simply fascinating skirmish system. However, the actual Mirkwood content is pretty slim and doesn't take more than a few nights of heavy gaming to run through. [Feb 2010]

This expansion is aimed squarely at existing LotRO players rather than newcomers, but it definitely hits the mark.
