The Lord of the Rings Online: Rise of Isengard

User ScoreWhiteTalpa

This expansion pack is decent however it feels like it's missing something, the landscapes seem to be missing that charm, and TBH look rather dull, it is only until I reached Isengard that I was actually impressed with the visuals. The questing content is strong, with quests that are much better than ones seen in Mirkwood, however saying that, they seemed to lack character for me, I rarely found myself truly engaged with the content. The PvE and PvM are still pretty solid, and keep the combat quests interesting. Overall its a worth while purchase if you're already a player/fan of LOTRO.

Solid expansion pack, this IMO is where LOTRO really starts to take off, I never really thought the base game was anything to shout about but with expansion packs like MoM the game really starts to make a name for its self. The quests are so much better here than they are in the base game, the team at Turbine have certainly learnt from their mistakes there, the PvM is classed as some of the best in LOTROs history and the same can be said for the PvE which is further improved with AI changes. Overall is a must have purchase for people who are already fans of LOTRO and its a great opportunity for players who perhaps didn't like the base game to try the game again.

LOTRO is at its core a WoW clone. However, unlike Rift it does not copy and perfect but instead just createa a cheap copy that doesn't feel as good. This doesn't mean its a bad game however, and it does show real promise. PvP PvP in LOTRO is very basic, one big map, one game mode... that's it. Despite this simplicity however the PvP experience is a fairly solid one and one which keeps people coming back. PvE I found the PvE really enjoyable. It has a good balance and therefore doesn't feel too easy, a problem which a lot of MMOs are effected with. This balance helps too make questing a lot more fun. Quests The quests are overall disappointing, they're no where near as good has they should have been. A lot of quests will tell you to go somewhere and complete an objective, you get back after doing the task and it will tell you to go back and complete another objective in the same place, it leaves me thinking why didn't you just give me both quests at the same time, it is this bad quest design which really holds with game back. Another problem with quest is the large amount of group quests, these occur normally at the end of a story line, now there are a number of problems with this, 1. Not everyone has friends to play with all the time and not all zones have enough people playing to group up with someone else, 2. Due to the fact you can't complete the quest you're missing out on the end of the quest line and therefore the story, 3. these quests are also meant to take players to new quest hubs but because you can't complete them it leaves player lost wondering what to do next. Lore/ world design This is Tolkien's world and this is Tolkien's lore, and Turbine have done a good good at recreating it within an MMO. Combat Combat is a bit clucky but overall it is fairly descent just not as good as some other MMOs. Crafting The crafting system is below par for me, it's dull and just overall boring to engage with. Optimization It's very good considering the look of the game, this is one of the games strongest points. Graphics The landscapes are very good, the art style is nice however, the human architecture is just awful and you can also tell that the Turbine team were sticking to a budget.

Some of the worst optimization I've seen, I mean i can play LOTRO high settings, RuneScape high settings, WoW high settings but no not WildStar even with all the options turned down to the lowest (which makes the game look so bad it's not worth playing) I still lagg. Apart from that the gameplay is OK, the quests are fairly interesting and slightly better than other games, the environment is different but I couldn't care less about it TBH, yes it's art style is nice but I mean there are so many games which use this "cartoon art style" it's starting to get boring. The combat is different enough and works well enough to class it as a refreshing change. The story again I couldn't care less about it, maybe that's because I play games like RuneScape and LOTRO which has amazing story content, but yeah the wildstar story never gripped me during my time with the game. Overall It's worth a look if you're an MMO player just to test it out, but I personally see Wildstar as a secondary MMO something I'd turn to when I get bored of grinding in my main MMOs, it's like the Chromebook of the MMO world.

Real shame this ex pack could have been really good here are my problems with the pack, not many quests i managed to finish the main story alongside other quests in no time at all, sadly i did have to give up on a few quests due to the fact they are broken which has also meant ive finished all the working content i can do and im only level 92 not 95 which the ex pack should get you to. BB are not end game content IMO they were ok for telling the story of helms deep but not good enough to be the end game content. Overall this ex is a disappointment...

A strong ex pack IMO, the mounted combat its fairly cool once you get used to it and certainly adds something to the game. I still however have some occurring problems for example, i was level 83 when i finished all the quests i had been given in each part of the new zone not 85 which it should of been so quests not matching ur level is here again sadly... the placement of NPC is reminded me Mirkwood so yeah that was pretty bad overall though those problems aside a enjoyed it and look forward to playing through wildermore and helms deep.

This is a solid game for the most part... it offers what most people are probably for from a game in this genre, the game has really nice graphics, interesting game mechanics and a decent community. There are some problems with the game... which considering AoS is over a year old year should have been fixed by now. For example, there are certain match types which include classes very similar to the way TF2 does it however the balancing is just awful and i tend to stay away from games using the class system... saying that there are classic mode games which don't have classes and these games i find are a lot more enjoyable.

RuneScape 3

User ScoreWhiteTalpa

RuneScape 3 PVP PvP in RuneScape is almost non-existent sadly when Jagex implemented the EoC it seems they either didn’t listen to the issues raised by the piking community or they just never tested EoC PVP (or both) Sadly pking is now a game of rock, paper, scissors. Each of the 3 combat styles are just a copy of the other which makes combat boring as everything feels the same. The above has led to major balancing issues in terms of PVP which is one of the main reasons PVP is dead. PVE Once again the EoC has turned a good part of the game into one of its worse features. The main problem with PVE is that the creatures haven’t been updated to use the EoC they attack the same way as before the only thing that’s different is that they hit harder and have more life points. However, because they still attack the same way as before they have become very easy to kill which makes the game boring and also makes the game too easy. PVM In 2013 Jagex thought PVM was the most important thing to focus on and to be fair the new end game PVM content they’ve created with the EoC has been enjoyed sadly however is only a very small amount of players who enjoy the content because like I said its END GAME PVM content lower level players and even higher level player who can’t afford the gear for the new bosses are forced to play the med – low level PVM content which has hardly been changed to work with EoC meanings the content is boring and too easy and overall not worth doing. Quests I can’t knock the quests in RuneScape especially the new quests as they are amazing sadly however quests were a rare thing in 2013. The main problem with quests is that a lot of them are very outdated. Mini games Mini games mainly focus on PVP, sadly as I’ve said above the PVP community has left RuneScape 3 thanks to the EoC. There are now very few mini games in RuneScape 3 which actually have people playing, match making systems are in the works to help people find games however this isn’t addressing the main problem. Skills The skilling system in any version of RuneScape has always been something which makes RuneScape one of the most unique MMOS, the skilling system in my eyes is perfect you can train whatever you want whenever you want, as there no classes in RuneScape 3 you’re not restricted in anyway this freedom is one reason my RuneScape 3 is still so popular. World The world of any MMO is brought to life by, graphics, audio and lore. RuneScape 3 uses a cartoon art style which works very well however sadly the games graphics feel half-finished, some parts of the game world have been graphically updated making them look almost out of place as you compare them to the rest of the world, sadly Jagex started something and it looks like they aren’t going to finish upgrading the worlds graphics anytime soon so the game world is like patch work, the main problem with this is most F2P areas have been upgraded and it’s the members (paid for areas) areas which have outdated graphics. With the release of RuneScape 3 Jagex thought it would be a good idea to spend a large amount of money on audio by upgrading the audio in some of the most populated areas in RuneScape 3, they also have servers just to stream the audio, however it seems that Jagex didn’t learn from the graphics problem that I talked about above as now the audio is inconsistent as well, also the servers streaming the audio don’t work either the audio lags or doesn’t play at all these audio problems haven’t been fixed since the launch of RuneScape 3 (22 July 2013) One good thing about the world of RuneScape 3 is the lore which is one of the reasons why quests are so gripping and interesting. Interface With the release of RuneScape 3 Jagex wanted to add a new interface system sadly however this new interface is very confusing creating and hiding things behind many menu’s, I’ve been playing Runescape for 5 years and I had a lot of difficulty finding certain features and from what I’ve heard some new players almost have no idea what they’re doing due to the confusing new interface system. Micro transactions Do I need to say anything here?
