Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon delivers a refreshingly dark and engaging RPG experience with a strong narrative, a reimagined take on familiar mechanics, and a world that feels both mythic and original. Fans of classic Bethesda titles who’ve been left cold by Oblivion Remastered should absolutely give this one a shot.

A deliciously old-fashioned open-world RPG, that harkens back to a seemingly bygone era of pure gaming fun.

I think that Tainted Grail could have benefited from more time in development even though it had already been a couple of years since the demo dropped. Though it often stumbles over the technical weight of its own creative ambition, Tainted Grail has the makings of a phenomenal RPG — but readers just might want to hold off until that weight has been lifted.

Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon is not trying to reinvent the RPG genre—but it does reclaim something many games have lost: a sense of danger, weight, and consequence. Its combat is deliberate and punishing, its world compact but meaningful, and its progression system encourages thoughtful experimentation. There are still technical flaws to address—especially in melee hit detection and UI responsiveness—but with version 1.0, the game finally feels like a complete vision. It’s a dark, grounded experience that doesn't seek to flatter the player, only to challenge them. And in doing so, it finds its own voice.

The Arthurian legend has come to life again in a first-person RPG with an imaginative world, great combat, but also various bugs and shortcomings.

The Fall of Avalon starts promisingly, but the contender for the title of Polish Skyrim exposes itself to an underdeveloped second half of the game. Still, it's worth giving it a chance.

Ultimately, Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon succeeds at a lot of what it’s going for, and it cannot be overstated how successful the adaptation of the Arthurian legend is. Not everyone is going to resonate with the creepier, darker tone, and the game’s technical state leaves much to be desired. However, those that do resonate with it will find an interesting, complex, intelligent narrative with the player being used both as a framing device and a driving force.

Wow, I would never expect something like this to be created by anything less than AAA studios. I am a huge Morrowind, Oblivion, and Dark Souls fan. I can be rather critical of games that are similar to those, but this game has blown me away. This is one of a small handful of games that I would put in my GOAT list.

Tainted Grail is as close as a bethesda TES without being TES. The Lore and the universe is very well made, the exploration is rewarding and the quests are remarkable. However, it got the TES clunkiness and bugs, being sometimes frustrating and annoying. If the developers learn from those mistakes and improve on what is already good, it have everything to be a new juggernaut IP.

Tainted Grail is a worthy imitator of The Elder Scrolls series. It contains the elements that the TES series is loved for: a lot of terrain to travel and many places to discover. There are many crucial mechanics to develop and diverse missions to complete. The developers’ approach to the plot gives players many moral dilemmas. As we progress through the story, we encounter consecutive choices whose results are hard to predict. Moreover, there are rarely any simple solutions. The problems we face are usually complex, and neither side is flawless. This creates a constant feeling of uncertainty about our decisions and difficulty in supporting any one side. Learning combat is pleasant and satisfying.Unfortunately, there are major and minor bugs and unpolished elements common throughout the game — from missions, NPC hitboxes, and missing voice files to quests full of potential that end suddenly without resolving the main case, among many others. All of this causes the player to lose immersion and interest. Overall, it’s a good production. I wish to see another developed piece.
