I’m not sure I’d waste this amount of money on another Housemarque game ever again. They don’t put much into their games. You play one giant level where even guns start to feel the same and you wish there was a “no story” button because whenever the story pops it’s ugly face in you want to throw the console out the window but you keep playing until you realize you’ve played it all over and over and over again.

The story really leaves a lot to be desired, and isn't as gripping as I was expecting it to be. I haven't played Returnal, so I'm not sure if this is something that should've been expected, but I was seriously let down by the gun variety in this game. There are only really 3-4 viable weapon options. The skill tree is also incredibly basic, with very few unique character abilities that you can sink points into. 90% of it is giving you the option of adding to your health pool, currency collection rate, or increasing power. Additionally, the metroidvania-esque blocking off of certain areas does get under your skin at some points, especially since there's no real reason to track back to previous locations to unlock those areas with new equipment. Overall... this was very meh.

This is a fantastic game that thoroughly kicked my ass. This was the first time I’ve played through a roguelite game and my inexperience showed. I played the first 20 hours Without any training wheels, by accident. Meaning I went through the first 4 biomes with using modifiers. Not because I didn’t want to but because I didn’t know about them to make it easier for myself. I also didn’t do myself any favors by just starting right back in the biome in last died in. This had me severally under-leveled and those first four biomes were rough because of it. I just assumed this game was brutally tough and accepted that because the gameplay was so much fun. Once I started a couple runs from the first biome and kept going from there the game became sooooo much ch more manageable and I started having even more fun. I had so much fun that I’m actually going for the platinum, which I’ve only ever done 2 other times. I’m usually ready to move on to the next game after completing the main story but the gameplay is so great that I’m not ready to put it down yet. The gunplay is fantastic in this game, each fun has great weight and action. The movement is addicting. You basically fly through the air like a super hero. The game is visually stunning. The soundtrack is great. I highly recommend playing this game, even if you’re new to the genre like me. It’s a great game.

SAROS impressively demonstrates why Housemarque has become one of the industry's most interesting action game studios. The developers refine their proven formula in almost every key area, creating a gaming experience that remains captivating for hours on end. The excellent combat system, rewarding progression, and outstanding technical execution form the foundation of a shooter that ranks among the best in the genre for the current console generation. While minor shortcomings regarding enemy variety and long-term engagement prevent it from achieving a perfect score, they do nothing to diminish the excellent overall impression. SAROS is not a game designed to please everyone; it demands concentration, patience, and a willingness to accept setbacks. However, those who embrace it will experience one of the most intense and mechanically compelling action titles of recent years.

Amazing game. Super fun. Must play. I loved Returnal and, admittedly, I was concerned after the first few hours if Saros would be as good/enjoyable. Well, I was wrong. The game is as good or better. It has the same intuitive controls (with some minor changes/ enhancements) and goes harder than before. The progression was great and had super challenging bosses. The final boss was a grind but totally a respectable challenge. The biomes were all creative and stunning. It was worth every penny and am happy to give Housemarque my money.

Gameplay is so much fun. Unfortunately there are some mechanics in the game I don’t like and that make no sense to me. If you start from the passage into a biom the game can be very difficult. If you never return to passage and just run through every biom you get stronger and stronger and game can get way too easy. Sometimes felt like cheating. Makes no sense to me. Why do I return weaker from the passage without even dying? And why can I become so strong that the game and every boss is way too easy? This means I have to start from the beginning every time a biom is too difficult. On the other hand I have to return to the passage after every biom if I don’t want to miss story content. And if I like a challenge and not an easy peasy game I have to go back to the passage, too. In addition to this, there are automatically aiming weapons that super strong. No reason to choose the pistol or pump gun in my opinion. All in all I think I don’t like the balancing so much. Except this Saros is an awesome game and differs from many other games out there. Refreshing and sometimes can be challenging.

The gameplay is excellent, really polished and fun. But the story was a big disappointment for me. I expected a dark metaphysical sci-fi horror story like Returnal, instead I got a heavy relationship drama with lots of modern personal drama and messaging (topics: homosexuality, gender pronouns, strong female lead characters, gender fluidity, strong people of color, toxic masculinity...) - it all resolves to this soap opera trash. It just didn’t fit the atmosphere at all. Would love to see a DLC with a more classic horror-focused narrative. Until then the woke garbage story will keep me from replaying it.

The general sentiment seems to be... it's good but returnal is better and that pretty much sums up my feelings. The story is bland and the characters uninteresting. The approach to storytelling is basically.. here are some vague details for you to piece together. It's not an approach I love but here it feels particularly bad because... who cares about these details? The gameplay feels amazing much like returnal but it does grow repetitive over time. Maybe that's because I played so much returnal when it launched though. There weren't a ton of interesting weapons and only two I actually liked to use. Assault rifles with auto target. Shotguns are useless because you need to get in close and anything without auto target is useless because enemies move so quick and you're constantly dodging projectiles. So out of the handful of weapons I ignored pretty much all of them. The biggest critique aside from the story though is the balancing. I get that people found returnal hard but I hated the grind in this game. A boss is too tough... just keep unlocking stuff in the upgrade tree until it gets easier... it made runs like a waste of time because I was too weak. For a good chunk of the game the difficulty felt ok but then the last few areas were tough. Experimenting with modifiers though... I completely broke the game and pretty much stopped dying. It's crazy how much of a difference it makes. I felt the game is unbalanced because between the upgrade tree and these insane modifiers the experience a player feels run to run just varies massively. All in all I was a bit disappointed. I mean I love horror and cosmic horror is awesome. But this game isn't remotely scary and feels a bit repetitive in the second half. I hope housemarque's next title is better. This one was maybe my most anticipated but was sadly just a good game, not a great one.

Easily one of the best PS5 exclusives to date, and one that finally takes advantage of its DualSense's haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. The game looks and feels great, every single fight is pure adrenaline boosted by a wild soundtrack. It is the perfect sequel to Returnal, with a more focused and interesting story, although Housemarque could've gone a little further in terms of narrative considering the incredible world-building of Carcosa. Last but not least, huge shoutout to Simone Silvestri for the jaw-dropping art direction!

Can’t fault this game at all, was a huge fan of Returnal and this improves on the formula in every way, have been playing this on the PS5 pro, graphics are crisp, game runs smooth with no dipping, most fun I’ve had in a game in a long time, honestly pick this up, I’d recommend it to anyone, the more you play the better it gets

This is a brilliant game for those who wanted to love Returnal but just got frustrated by it and ended up hating it (me). This is so much more accessiblen and doesn't feel unfair. The gameplay is brilliant and I was constantly keen to know what is going on with the story. Would highly recommend.

Gameplay is king, absolutely loved the gameplay, the haptics, the crazy bullet ballet, stunning graphics, unbelievable sound design.. i literally got to utilize my home theatre system for this. It has great bosses , responsive mechanics. The story however is where this falls short, it just didn't hit me.. i had no emotional attachment to any character, I like the protagonist because of Rahul Kohli and his performance that I have seen over the years but then thats it... no weight to the story or side characters.. housemarque has perfected combat, graphics and art design they just need to do a better story telling to build enough intrigue for the player.. for them to care **** even after completing the game I am hooked to the gameplay and I will keep coming back to it just for the feel... so cheers!!!

Fun gameplay with a permanent skill tree, making the game more accessible than Returnal. Story is pretty bad, and the environments are boring. Found myself wanting only 2 of the many weapons in the game. Boss battles are good and the performance is excellent. Game has a lot of characters that serve no purpose and are quickly forgotten. Missing the mystery that made Returnal so great. 7.5 or 8 out of 10 for me

Epic, haunting and surprisingly punchy. You will find the music stuck in your head while you attempt to sleep; the imagery is pretty hypnotic too. I was worried accessibility might make this game toothless; we fears were needless. There is a mechanism to adjust the game to your abilities, which becomes available after a nominal set of challenges. So you have to persevere over a single hurdle, and then you can play the game for its story line if that is your jam. I am a Housemarque fanboy, and it is cool to see the evolutionary layers to the games they have produced, and so see them now pushing modern heights in a gaming env where there is a clear audience for grueling challenging beautiful games. Returnal has the best dynamics of any game I can think of in terms of fluidity, controls and general gameplay flow. This feels pretty bloody close to that. Sound design is awesome, as are the graphics. Only hiccups I have encountered are slow down in the second to last stage of the game on PS5 Pro (at various points, not particularly loaded scenes), and maybe some balancing issues. Basically, if you replay prior areas you can become godlike in your abilities. This results in a rather odd situation where if you are pressed for time, and run straight at a boss you might loss your head 10x times at 30 min spent per run, whereas if you have 1:30, you can have an effective training montage and get so beefy that you can destroy just about anything. I loved the tower on Returnal, and will be super stoked if something like it emerges for Saros. I generally found this storyline less grimace worthy than the Returnal one

I'm so disappointed I paid for the deluxe. I can't force myself to play this POS. I own Returnal on PC and PS5. I LOVE Returnal. I've gotten pretty far in the tower. I can generally pick up a random run and win so I'd say I'm pretty good at the game. This game has no consumables and no weapon traits. Just "stats" that influence the numbers behind your gun. Every run feels the same. Enemies are bullet sponges that make you play Simon Says while you spam your alt-fire, which now recharges instantly when you shield projectiles. I got the first boss on my 1st or 2nd try and now I'm in the biome where you get the grapple. It's not super hard but the game is so boring and tedious that I end up walking into bullets and dying early every time. When my Second Chance triggers I just turn the game off instead. There is no cool platforming like Returnal had. There are no hidden secrets. Items you can find are just blue, gold or red rectangular bricks that only have weapons or relics that increase your stats with an extra modifier that always feels like "whatever". I'm legitimately angry and I feel like I got ripped off. This game plays like vibe coded Returnal. I hope they never make their budget back so this developer can fail.

It could have been something more. Here I am, just coming out of Hades 2, and I'm just so underwhelmed by everything this game has to offer. Believe me, The King in Yellow is a book that can be found in my book cabinet, proudly on display. I had hoped the devs had all read it, but I guess my expectations might have been too high. Instead I'm looking at an asset-flipped cash-grab. It just lacks authenticity, which is sticking out so sorely in a creative world dominated by AI. That same blandness I saw in Dragon Age: the Veilguard and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. It's in this game too. The meaningless architecture and scenery, the disconnected colorcannonade pulling you out of immersion, and enemies not even possessing a shred of personality. You'll feel it too, when you sigh at another pretentious piece of dialogue or pass another copy-pasted statue of hands with too many fingers.

A história do jogo é boa e consegue prender bastante, mas o foco principal aqui é o gameplay frenético o tempo inteiro.

Don't buy the hype; the writing is a disaster. It was marketed as an epic sci-fi journey, but it just forces you into a bizarre, toxic relationship drama. It feels like the writers cared more about checking boxes for modern western media trends than making a good game. The choices feel totally unnatural and the characters are completely unlikable. Who is this narrative even written for? A total waste of money. 0/10

As a hardcore fan of Returnal, Saros was disappointing. The added mechanics of shield and alt-fire were excellent additions, but they drop on difficulty level was too much. I understand Returnal had a very steep learning curve (especially in the first two biomes), but they went too far on easing the journey. The game is so unbalanced that, around midgame, I was able to beat 3 biomes (including bosses) in the first try within a single cycle (and that was without exploiting modifiers). To make things worse, Sony once tried to make us swallow woke storytelling. It's there, subtly. Always the same boring/recurring script that empowers the females while demonizing the male characters. That narrative works once or a couple of times, but this has now become an annoying pattern of Sony games.

Super solid game! Everything from sound design, music and graphics all slap here. Story is a little wonky, but I believe housemarque is aiming more towards gameplay which really shines brighter than the eclipse you're playing through here on carcosa. Was never a fan of rouge like games, but this feels more like a hybrid of the sorts. Where you don't have to start from the very beginning which gets pretty old after your 1,000th run. I highly recommend if you're a newcomer to the rouge like genre!

Saros is a thrilling sci-fi action experience with fast-paced combat, stunning visuals, and an eerie atmosphere that constantly keeps players on edge. Housemarque does not evolves the formula established in Returnal for me. While the story occasionally lacks emotional depth, the gameplay loop is addictive, polished, and incredibly satisfying.

A really great (spiritual) sequel to Returnal that builds and improves on the formula dveloped in a previous title. The gameplay is tight and improves a lot of what made Returnal so fun. I think the bosses are more memorable and unique with some cool gimmicks. It can be easier or harder then Returnal depending on how you tinker with it's settings via Carcosa modifiers. Overall it took me 40-50h to finish it. The story is good and I liked that there were more NPCs to interact with, but somehow it didnt pull me as much as the Selene's story did. It's still cool though and an original attempt to do something nice and not seen in the video-games since like Silent Hill 2? I have no idea why people call it woke though. I was sure the main character will be **** or something... he is not, he is just an angry, toxic guy that did some bad things in the past. I don't want to spoil it, but it's just about a dude who got lost in life. P.S. Visuals and audio are 11/10!

Its a good game and GOTY contender as for me, but I can't stop comparing it to Returnal and for me Returnal is much better in every possible way. The atmosphere, complexity, gunfights, level design, gaming loop, plot. Dialogues in Saros feel so off and so boring, I just cant help it, I almost forced myself to pay attention. As a verdict - gameplay is great, lots of cool areas and some of new mechanics are cool, but overall its less entertaining and addictive than Returnal

Couldn't help but feel disappointed coming from Returnal. Prior to release I had hoped that the shield would be an optional tool that struggling players could make use of to lower the difficulty but sadly it's so intertwined with other systems that ignoring it doesn't really present as an intended way to play if you seek more challenge. In general it seems that Housemarque have somewhat left behind their passionate core audience from Returnal to make the game more accessible for a wider audience but I think those things didn't have to be mutually exclusive. I had hoped for a choice in the beginning whether I want the "normal" or the "hardcore" experience, automatically deactivating things like shield or 2nd life if I chose the latter. Yes, there is a dedicated modifier system in place to tune the difficulty to your needs but I haven't been able to squeeze the perfectly polished experience I had with Returnal out of it. On the note of difficulty, the platinum trophy is possibly the easiest I've ever gotten in any game. As such it didn't provide much additional motivation to play the game after story completion and ultimately felt unearned. Lastly the story has everything that I'd love a story to have and yet it managed to fall flat for me both in the moment to moment telling as well as the eventual conclusion. The last thing that would keep me playing is hunting for the remaining audio- and textlogs but I simply do not care. But with all this in mind … it's still one of the best games PS5 has to offer by far and I've had a great time nonetheless. I wish the best to Housemarque.
