Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure
Fun, challenging and addictive.
It's hard to tell what's part of the gameplay and what's merely artwork, a fact not made any easier by the GBA's notorious lighting difficulties.
Wasn't great in 1995, and it's even less impressive in 2002.

I had a pretty unique problem with this game : not being able to beat the very first boss. Why ? Because a game normally somehow tells you if and when a boss takes damage so you know what is effective and if you're doing the right thing or you have to find another way to damage it. But not THIS game, no.

Challenging both in terms of difficulty and convention (you do more than just run to the right), Pitfall looks gorgeous on the small screen, especially its fluid character animation, while the controls respond well and the sounds are sharp.

It’s hard enough to see on the Advance as it is – some of the darker areas in Pitfall make the game unplayable.

IGN
The Game Boy Advance version, for shame, does not have the classic Pitfall.

The other serious problem with Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure is a holdover from the original: its horrible boss fights.

It seems that the Pitfall series has lost its luster over time, and this port just solidifies that fact.

SummaryFans of the series might be able to enjoy Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure on a nostalgic level if they can grit their teeth through its serious flaws.
