Mario Party 4
The mini-games have different faces but they play ostensibly the same, and even with the visuals buffed to a sparkle the overall effect is very much ‘more of the same’.
Does exactly what it sets out to do, and as such it comes highly recommended to anyone with more than one controller to their name.

The minigames are just as goofy as ever, with only one or two clunkers amid dozens of fun challenges. [Nov 2002, p.218]

This would be an 8 if it not were for the gambling map. This is just something truly nice to see because today that wouldnt be possible (because of woke they say). Now the semen-demon hasnt gotten to me yet so we were able to finish this after watching one battle after another. The other great thing about this is that you can beat the CPU on hard if you are a good gamer (which I am) so we not only beat this **** on hard but he (actually she because it was peach) also got 4th place (#loser). Music could be better. Thats all for today, beggars cant be choosers.

As a single player game, it's kinda boring. [Jan 2003, p.59]

With four-players in tow, it's a total blast, but for those that are looking for some solid, non-anger-inducing solo play, you'd do well to swerve away from this one for sure.

There are extra little features that make Mario Party 4 the best of the bunch, but nothing that makes it soar above the rest.

The formula is getting just a little stale. [29 Nov 2002, p.114]

The franchise has become an exercise in monotony.

If anything, the game did show me how much torment I can put up with before breaking down, sobbing, and pleading to make it stop. [Dec 2002, p.125]

A solid Mario Party entry, with a reasonably wide variety of minigames and several boards to choose from at first glance. However, this entry can get stale somewhat quick, as the boards are not particularly dynamic, and the minigames tend to be rehashes of previous minigames. Overall, nice to play for a few runs, but easily forgettable (especially with the newer sequels).

Looking back on all the Mario Parties made, it's clear to say this one's the dumbest. There's barely no point to the game, and the mini-games are the worst in the franchise. There's a lack power-ups and other needed sets running around the board, and the game will just ruin your experience. There's better party games out there. It lasted me 70 minutes before I decided how dull the game was. If you invite friends over they won't be laughing at your stupid mistakes; they'll be laughing at your stupid game.

SummaryToad, Koopa, and other party-planning pranksters have hidden birthday presents for their closest friends inside the Party Cube. To win the presents, Mario, Yoshi, Peach, and other Mushroom Kingdom favorites will have to plunge into a circus of minigame trickery. As always, keep an eye out for Bowser and his trouble-making goons. Even ... Read More
