Like the zombie shooters that came before it, John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando is all about shooting monsters and spilling guts with big guns, and fending off hordes with your best pals. Some aspects of the game are suspect but aren’t game-breaking. That said, the biggest issue with Toxic Commando is that it doesn’t strive to be anything more. As long as you’re not looking for a groundbreaking experience, Toxic Commando can be a great way to burn your weekends with.
Toxic Commando delivers chaotic co-op fun and explosive action, but shallow progression and a repetitive structure hold it back. A solid shooter for short sessions with friends, though not one that will leave a lasting impression.
John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando is a loud, proud, and stylistically sharpshooter that shines brightest when you're tearing through hordes of gunk zombies with a group of friends.

I had a lot of fun playing this game. It reminded me of how first person shooters (and games in general) back in the 00s were designed to just be fun. This is not a game that is doing anything groundbreaking. But it is a game that is a ton of fun. I love how the incorporated the snow runner mechanics into this game and combined it with the shooter genre. The campaign was the perfect length for what this games is. If the campaign was any longer the game would have started to drag. The primary reason is that from a gameplay loop perspective this game is pretty simple 1) Find a car 2) Gather Parts and Resources and get the things needed for the main mission 3) Defend an area from hordes of zombies. That is pretty much how every mission goes which was fun. However, if the game were longer this would have needed significant adjustments or it would have gotten boring. But it didn’t and it was an awesome time. The music in this game is solid too. The one thing I do not like was the characters. They were empty and there was nothing done to make you feel attached to them or even care about them. Overall I’m really happy I played this game, it was a great time.

Needs more content but the backbone is solid. Feels like an updated wwz but with half the content. Hopefully they add more and fast.

I really wanted to like Toxic Commando, but this ain’t it right now.Paid $50 expecting a solid co-op experience, but the game feels half-baked. Content is super limited — once you finish the story, you’re basically replaying the same missions over and over with nothing meaningful to grind for. It gets repetitive **** matchmaking and lobby system is honestly one of the worst parts. I started my own game, had randoms join, and somehow THEY were able to vote-kick me out of my own session. How does that even make sense? If I’m hosting, I should have some level of control. Instead, it just turns into random players deciding how you’re allowed to play in your own lobby.Gameplay can be fun for a bit, but it doesn’t carry the lack of depth. No real endgame, no variety, and not enough content to justify the price.Overall, it feels like a $20–$25 game at best in its current state. Right now, it’s just not worth $50. Maybe after updates or a big content drop, but as it stands — I wouldn’t recommend buying it.

John Carpenter's Toxic Commando surprised me. I expected it to be an enjoyable co-op shooter based on my previous experiences with it, but it ended up becoming my go-to game to play with friends. The gunplay is tight and extremely satisfying, and the decision to use contained maps with easy-to-find points of interest means there's action around almost every corner. There's also so much to upgrade, with gun customization being a very high point, and skill trees for the four character classes improving our abilities further. Even though there could be a little more variety, especially with character skins, John Carpenter's Toxic Commando is one of the best co-op experiences I have had the pleasure of enjoying.

John Carpenter's Toxic Commando is a title that doesn't try to reinvent the genre, but rather delivers a fun, stylish cooperative experience with its own personality. For those who enjoy games focused on team action and appreciate a good dose of humor and chaos, this is a very solid option within the genre to try in 2026.

It's a very beautiful game, especially when playing online with friends, and even if you're alone you'll enjoy it.

10/10 Just a nice video game. So refreshing. If you loved Left4Dead and/or Black Ops Zbies you gonna fall in love with this game!

Toxic Commando is an interesting mix with the core of good old cooperative zombie action, on which it layers excellently crafted vehicle movement in difficult terrain. The random layout of the maps helps the replayability, although it would have deserved a little more variety. John Carpenter's name is not in the title for nothing, and the epic visuals combined with the bombastic soundtrack do not disgrace the name of the horror master at all.

John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando is a polished co-op zombie shooter that prioritizes satisfying gameplay over originality. It delivers massive undead hordes, strong weapon feedback, and chaotic defense sequences that shine when played with friends. While the story and characters are shallow and some progression systems need refinement, the core gameplay loop of exploring open maps, gathering resources, and surviving overwhelming waves of zombies remains consistently fun. Toxic Commando may not reinvent the genre, but its excellent game feel and spectacle make it an enjoyable experience for co-op shooter fans, especially at a discounted price.

Legendary director John Carpenter lent his name to this zombie-filled co-op action game, which is acceptable but doesn't quite measure up to the quality of the master's films.

A fast-paced, brutal, straightforward shooter spectacle – the kind horror film alumnus John Carpenter lends his name to. If you want to unleash Snake Plissken-style co-op mayhem, you'll love it. Solo players should look elsewhere.

Although Toxic Commando has addictive moments and offers around 20 hours of gameplay, it lacks the spark and immersion it promised, besides having graphics that feel a bit outdated. However, the developer's formula still works; its story and good cutscenes are the ideal hook to keep you playing for a while.

Could use some more content and more variation in the maps but over all this game scratches an itch that only games like this do.

game lacks content, needs way more then what it has now, you can only play the same maps so many times before its get really boring, needs more ASAP, otherwise its going to be done by end of month if not sooner.

Game is nice to play. performances are not great on console. And stick deadzone on a controller is huge and makes gunplay feels unresponsive. We are in 2026 and no way to tune controller settings for a FPS...?
