Ink Reverie is a simple and lighthearted adventure, not very competitive and with easy-to-understand mechanics, despite a tutorial that is unfortunately unclear. However, the game dynamics quickly become easy to understand and will allow you to spend countless hours in evocative settings, listening to traditional Chinese music and decorating your ideal city with numerous buildings.

Despite my issues, I found Ink Reverie to be a relaxing and charming game. It blends a bit of idle mechanics with active city building and match three gameplay quite well and served as a lovely detox to everything else I have going on. No need to stress over the finer details, all you have to do is build and watch as your cities grow.

Sure, it might look like a city builder. But Ink Reverie is more of a cozy-clicker with ink wash visuals and a soothing soundtrack. While light on challenge, it might beguile if you prefer zoning out over the burdens of urban engineering.

A really beautiful, really cosy little city builder/match-3 hybrid title that is priced right for what it offers. It starts simple, gets trickier, but always feels 'chill'. It could do with better tutorials at certain points in the later maps, and it slightly runs out of steam towards the end. But it's well worth the price of admission. A special note of praise for the soundtrack, which is perfect.
