Gladiators of Rome

Redeemed by its setting and style but in many other respects is a run-of-the-mill graphics-heavy 3D product that game companies can churn out in their sleep.

Gladiators of Rome has ... well ... waiting, and waiting for what seems like an eternity in an action game.

A quirky strategy game that's interesting to play--at least for a little while.

Controlling one gladiator is simple enough, but as soon as you add a few more, the game becomes almost impossible to manage.

The idea is great, the execution poor. We can only hope that this is not the only treatment of the subject we'll see in computer gaming.

The game is simply not fun. There is too much of a clash between real time and turn-based strategy that translates into a magnitude of frustration.

There's little redeeming value to this poor knock-off. Maximus is spinning in his grave. [Jan 2003, p.106]
