This game was a blast to play! Too bad the media outlets covered it poorly! Gorgeous open world, epic bosses and mobs, endless traversal, I would have play and boughten the sequel no questions asked!!

There are a lot of naysayers on this game, but it's fantastically fun. The combat system is the best that Square has put out in a long while. Overall it's a fantastic RPG, putting FFXVI to absolute shame.

Combat and parkour feel great, and having a young woman of color as the protagonist is a welcome change, but the rest is sadly mediocre. The world is huge but sterile. The story is basic and superficial. Bits of lore scattered around the world just don’t come together into a deep or meaningful narrative. Side characters are flat and forgettable. I kinda liked the dynamic between Frey and the Cuff, but the repetitive dialogue and excessive cursing just killed the vibe. The voice acting is good though. All in all, during my playthrough I caught myself sooo many times being confused or simply cringing because of the writing, but the dopamine from the action kept me going. If it’s on sale, you might give it a try, but at full price? No no no.

I’m not going to try and lie to you about Forspoken being some hidden masterpiece; because it is not. 70% of the story is bad to meh but that last 30% plus the DLC story is actually pretty good. But the combat on the other hand is fast and fluid while being fun to mess around with. Also while it makes sense for the world of Athia to be in the state it is in, the open-world did not need to be so empty and lifeless. If the devs had looked in the mirror WAY earlier into development I could see a smaller-scale and more refined version of Forspoken being an actually good game. I still would recommend this game if you can get it on a good sale though.

I rarely quit on games, even if I don't like them. For me, Forsaken was a horrible couple of hours. Most if the game is lacking personality and wasn't engaging at all. Still get's a 3 because the movement was nice. Combat was OK but carried by the movement. Without these elements i'd give it a 0 or 1.

В игре хороша боёвка и проходной сюжет. Она могла стать на 7 балов, но чтобы это всё было ок, ей надо было сократить или вообще убрать открытый мир, он как по мне тут лишний

If I'm being honest, this game is a mid-to-hard 7, but I'll clock in as a soft 8 just to combat the onslaught of unfairly harsh criticism. By no means is this game groundbreaking, but it feels false to not acknowledge that its overwhelming negative reception was, at least, somewhat influenced by the political discourse at the time. All that aside, Forspoken is an engaging and ambitious RPG, mixing open-world exploration with magical action-RPG combat and some parkour elements sprinkled into both. I played the game not long after its release in 2023, buying it on sell. I didn't expect much but I was still surprised as how enjoyable it was after the drawn-out introduction. I revisited the game recently to see if it was really as good as I remembered or if my positive memory was a contrarian fluke. While the story and environment feel familiar, I do really enjoy the world-building and magic system. There's no shortage of magic for the protagonist to use, and every magic element has multiple basic attacks and special attacks to use. Unfortunately, there's very little there in the parkour traversal system of the game. There's very little real parkour and more magically-enhanced free running and jumping/climing up steep obstacles. Though, I wish the controls for the magic system felt more natural. It took me a while to get back into the flow of the controls when I jumped back into the game years later. Makes replayability less likely when compared to games like Spider-Man and Assassin's Creed, which are generally easier to get back into after a long absence. Also, the open world is so empty and similar. Every area looks the same; rocky, hilly, desolate, and lifeless. Sure, it makes traversal using the magic fun, but there's so much more that could've been added. Also, the severe lack of side-quest activity is damning to the vast, underused open world. There's not much endgame content here. A few collection-based side-quests, and a bunch of unexplored towers and arenas/challenges. Personally, I spent a lot of time post-game trying to level up my magic, seeing as I beat the main story before utilizing even half of the vast magic system. As I said before, the story is fine. Basic, but fine. The characters are also fine, if not forgettable. I've seen some people say she was too unlikable, but I never thought she was unlikable. I just think they're confusing unlikable personality with unlikable dialogue. The dialogue was so forced. Like an "edgy" teenager wrote the script. The cursing was excessive and the game isn't quite as funny as it thinks it is. But video game dialogue during cutscenes are often a little corny, it's not a dealbreaker. Overall, this is a fun game. The biggest problem being a slow introduction, an underutilized world, and a bad scriptwriter. It felt a little undercooked, but definitely not bad by any stretch. Worth a try, especially seeing that the game is usually on sale every month.

A nice game with acceptable gameplay. The story of the game is interesting with surprises. A game with a too large open world but too much to explore without having missions in those areas but in the end it's an ok game to play

It has issues but honestly, i really enjoyed it. In forspoken you are frey, a 21 year old girl who struggles with life in new york but after discovering a random arm accesory she goes to another dimension where that thing talks and we call it cuff, and it also gives us powers to save athia and defeat the Tantas. Storywise while many hated it i must say i enjoyed it. Frey insults quite frecuently, to be honest i didnt mind it because i thought she was a teenager for almost the whole game but once i learned she was a full grown adult i thought it was a bit cringe but one can say she had a hard time i guess, she never got to be a true child with freedom and joy and wants to slur both to express the little freedom she has and to cope with whats happening. I actually liked the characters, the dynamic between cuff and frey i enjoyed it and i did like most of its quips and jokes. While i liked the general dynamic, dialogue and characters, i must say its very predictable, i dont think that makes the story bad but it doesnt help it and also the chapter 11 was brutally long with way too much time to explain everything compared to the rest of the game. There was a twist too which was kinda predictable and honestly i didnt like it. Gameplay. Had potential but its at best a bit above average. The movement while it looks fun, its really really simple with not much to do besides hold sprint and jump over obstacles, you also have a very basic grappling hook and not much more. Combat was decent, could have been better with more CC powers and better variety to the powers but it was decently fun, you have a nice selection of powers and abilities 3 ranged and one close range, enemy variety could have been better but it does the job. Some bosses could be annoying but most were very fun. Sidequests were bad mostly The world while at times it can look stunning, its mostly very empty (visually) there were a decent variety of activities and most of them were actually fun but in general the world was empty due to lack of structures vegetation or other stuff. Soundtrack wasnt memorable at all nothing struck me. Overall in general its actually enjoyable, worth to try if free. But asking 70$ is something id laugh at. The gameplay can be a bit fun and if you like the first 3 hours storywise and characters then you would love the game. Worth at 5$

A me è arrivato.

Frey's sassy bītch with a pinch of delinquency personality gets old faster than the bread you forgot in the back of the pantry. Frey’s constant, weary swearing and eye-rolling commentary on every single particle of dust in Athia isn’t charming or empowering (what the game tries so hard to be woke); it’s exhausting. It’s the vocal equivalent of being trapped in an elevator with a teenager who just discovered the word “fu*k” and thinks using it every other sentence makes them interesting.

Forspoken suffers from really poor dialogue and unlikeable characters, repetitive gameplay and the overwhelming feeling is this is a project that should have really been cancelled early in development, but nobody ever pulled the trigger. It's not a total write-off - visually it's OK, and there's some promise with the overall 'isekai/Alice in Wonderland' premise (unfortunately never realised here.) The sound design isn't terrible either. And the parkour type movement is, at least for a while, pretty decent. But that's it. Everything else - gameplay, characters, dialogue, progression... everything - is pretty awful. But it's the writing that really kills it, because this thing is littered with cut scenes, all over the place, every few minutes, and every single one, without exception, is abysmal, with a script that feels it was written by a really bad AI. The lead character, Frey, is the worst character in the entire game. And it's not entirely the fault of the script either - she's badly acted, with weird delivery of the lines throughout that don't match the context of the situation. So yeah, it's a poor game. It hasn't been unfairly blasted by a 'hate mob' - it's just a bad game.

Forspoken offers flashes of excitement through its fast-paced magic combat, creative traversal, and a world steeped in lore that often feels lifted straight from Final Fantasy XVI. While the spell-slinging and parkour systems are enjoyable, the open world itself is sparse and struggles to feel alive. The story is serviceable but far from a standout, leaving the overall experience feeling like a missed opportunity. It’s a game with strong ideas and potential, but one that never fully delivers on them.

After clearing this game I was shocked that reviews were clearly written by guys that didn't even bother to try this game. Gameplay is masterpiece, lore is very good, storytelling is a little clunky at the beginning but it gets better the more you play. Strongly recommend to check for yourself.

Could've been a good game in theory, but the gameplay is redundant and boring, the writing is flat and annoying, the characters are unlikable and on top of everything it is really hard to believe that a group of female writers that tried so hard to make this game "diverse" and "inclusive" managed to come up with something this racist and stereotypical.

The worst dialogue I've ever experience in any entertainment medium. How are we suppose to take the main character seriously when every sentence always ends up her cursing. The writers clearly cannot write something that's above a child's level. Not to mention the just below average graphics, on PS5, but it looks like something that the ps3 easily could have handled.

This game has potential to be a solid 7, but the rails and the unskippable cutscenes make it nearly unplayable. The mechanics are mostly fun, butmoving from cutsceneto cut scene in a **** story and such things as (this is real, just happened) a 45 second view of an unimportant squarein the town. The cinematography team should bebookedout of the industry for ruining what is somesolidganeplayand an interesting enough concept.

The game has some issues, but they were definitely blown out of proportion. Hate bandwagoning is a real thing. Some dialog can be cringe, but not much more than a Kingdom Hearts or DMC game. Combat system is genuinely phenomenal, and performance/graphics for PS5 pro are good. Some color filtering choices are questionable, but the game looks pretty overall. Lore is very interesting, and character designs are stunning. Some songs are hauntingly beautiful, but the soundtrack has far too many generic, lietmotif-heavy, repetitive songs for me to ever listen to the soundtrack on my free time. Cutscenes are awkward and stilted unfortunately, but overall, this is a great game and has me glued to my seat. At 20 USD now, this game is definitely worth getting. It's really more of an 8, but I'm giving it a 10, since like FFXIII, this game suffers from hater syndrome.

Graphics is from PS3 era even with ray-tracing enabled. Fighting two first dragons in a row (why not 3 or 5 in a row, don't ask me) already gives you a good idea about combat - messy, repetitive and unengaging. I can very well see the reason for overwhelming dislike from users.

Disappointing on all fronts, I've never seen a game be mediocre in every single **** story is utterly banal with a plot twist that's obvious from the very **** protagonist is a cliché of the girl who thinks only she has suffered, and she repeats it so much that it becomes impossible to empathize with her—quite the opposite, you end up hating **** combat system only becomes genuinely interesting in the **** open world is bland.Completely skippable.

It looks very simple for a game made for the PS5. When comparing it to games like The Witcher 3 or Red Dead Redemption, Forspoken looks very poor in terms of graphics from a visual perspective. The controls feel clunky, and the story is very simplistic, making it quite disappointing.

The game is really fun. The combat and the parkour is actually the strongest point of the game. The story is also good and I really liked the ending. The pace of the first third of the game is a little bit slow and the world kinda feels empty (although that's tied to the story) but it picks up the pace and becomes a story you definitely won't want to miss.

Bad graphics are you drunk or high asf saying nonsense. Did you even play this game?? Or you seen you play as a woman and she has color and though,oh hey this is a woke game that isn't forcing anyone to play it. Yet I want to feel like I know video games and want to be a professional victim ‍♂️‍♂️ thet things people consider games are atrocious and same goes for crying about FPS nonsense and story, saying it's repetitive HELLO... ANYONE THERE because damn near every game is repetitive geniuses. The only reason anyone hates games is because you okay as a black woman and you racists whine and unnecessarily bash a game over the color of skin and gender. Mad because you're not playing a pasty white douchy male ‍♂️‍♂️‍♂️🥱 only bad thing about this game, are the fake gamers review bombing... Stick with fortnite and ****‍♂️

I just finished this game and had mixed feelings. Pros: 1. The parkour system is unique and makes exploring a huge empty world more interesting. 2. The combat system is fun, with a wide variety of magic to try different combat styles. It feels under used after you get fire spells. 3. Story feels like a mix of Wizard of Oz with Alice in the Wonderland, which starts boring as heck, but the ending "twist" feels enjoyable. The cons: 1. The protagonist is stereotyped and is completely unlikeable until almost the last chapter. 2. Side quests (detours) are repetitive, boring and give no sense of reward. You do much of things that don't feel like you are helping anything get better. 3. The world is huge, beautiful, but boring as heck. It felt like a bad copy of Horizon Zero Dawn, where instead of wanting to explore every corner before facing the final boss, I actually wanted to rush finish the game before I lost interest and felt like I wasted my money. I'm now in the post-end game hating even more the challenges required to get Platinum trophy. It feels so pointless that I might just give up and move on to a better game instead. Edit: I eventually came back months later to get Platinum trophy, which I did. It made me remember why I disliked this game more and drop my score from 5 to 4.

The game is ok, it has some good ideas but can't really take them to their full potential. Among these good ideas are the magic spells, they are weird at first, but can be fun and have a good variety once you get used to it. The world and map looks good and well designed and they made great mechanics for traversal IMO. However, the main problems with this game are the story and the character control. Don't count me among the ones that got their feeling hurt by the setting. The writing and acting is just plain bad and can't get you to be **** the movement, holy s***, it's tragic. It feels like no one played this game or they were too much in a rush to get the game out... It, by itself, almost made me delete the game after a few hours. I'm usually a completionist but with this game, I just could not wait for it to be over to put it away.

This is a weird game. Gameplay-wise, it is actually okay and definitely shows a lot of potential, and the graphics during combat are genuinely great. But every now and then, Frey and Cuff start talking, and it completely ruins the immersion. The main character, Frey, is incredibly cynical and heavily depressed. Even late into the game, she is still so negative that as a player, you just find yourself wanting to skip the story completely just to get to the next battle. Honestly, the overarching plot just ****. I ended up skipping most of the side quests because there is definitely something wrong with the writing team—the dialogue is simply a mess. The game relies heavily on excessive foul language to sound edgy, but dropping curse words does not make up for lame writing. Overall, it is a cheesy, weak story topped off with a really anticlimactic final battle. I still can't believe this actually came from Square Enix. The bottom line: only play this if you have an absolute ton of spare time and literally no other decent games available to play.

Game is very good, don’t get the negative reviews. Gameplay consists of magic parkour and magic battles, very well done and entertaining even after 20+ hours. Graphical effects of spells are amazing to watch. Story is actually quite decent, feels fresh, and it’s not totally predictable. But what I liked the most was the feeling of progression and becoming more powerful after every improvement I got. After playing this for a while you really feel like a magical being, a sorceress that can handle anything, it’s hard to describe but the battles feel epic, although it is challenging at times you can sense the power the character wields. The only cons are that the side quests are not great, and the world feels empty sometimes, but overall a much better game than the score suggests.

A huge disappointment. They promised a lot and delivered **** great graphics up close are worthy of the PS5. But everything that goes into the distance is reminiscent of the PS4 times. Gameplay: 3/5 Graphics: 4/5 Story: 3/5 Controls: 2/5 Conclusion: The developers completely misjudged and released a game that is unworthy of the PS5.

I enjoyed this game for the most part. Contrary to what most people have to say about this game, I like Frey. Most people have an issue with her because she isn't a cliché hero/heroine. She has personal baggage (due to various reasons/circumstances) that she works through throughout the story. I didn't see anything in her behavior resembling her acting entitled. She has a standoffish demeanor due to her childhood abandonment issues. These people complaining about her attitude wouldn't be nearly as pleasant as she is if they had a childhood like her. All the people who think this game is "woke" need to grow up and quit crying. If it isn't stereotypical macho misogynistic tropes objectifying women it's "woke." It's absurd, juvenile and stupid. I grew up on Arnold Schwarzenegger & Sylvester Stallone movies. I don't need or want every story being Commando Rambo. Frey is a breath of fresh air in a stagnant entertainment industry. If it isn't "woke" it's right wing macho crap. I'll take Frey over Kratos any day of the week. My biggest issues with this game are Cuff and the overall movement while exploring. MacCuffin s.u.c.k.s. I don't like anything about him, especially after finishing the main story. The movement is decent if you're using the parkour/speed option but it turns abysmal the moment you stop. I lost count of how many times Frey would get stuck on invisible objects in the terrain. This game isn't perfect but it was much better than I was expecting it to be considering how awful Squeenix is at everything.

The game is a lot of fun but has issues. I really enjoy the parkour & the combat system. The mechanic for switching between spells was really well done & makes you feel really powerful. No other game has made me really feel like I was in control of the magic I was using like this game. Switching between the types of magic & utilizing different spells in different situations was so well done & made me wish other games (thinking of Hogwarts Legacy, specifically) used a similar mechanic to make the flow of battle smoother. I also enjoyed the story & the characters. The story gets a lot of hate online, along with the characters & voice acting, but I really do think that's just a bunch of incels/racists/misogynists who weren't happy to play as a black female. The story is a bit predictable, sure, it's the classic "chosen one" story, but so are like half the games out there & they don't get as much hate as this game for being predictable. The depth of the world building is great, & I really enjoyed a lot of the dialog, especially between the main character, Frey, & her "sidekick." They have an entertaining back-and-fourth throughout the game that is genuinely funny at times & engaging when they discuss deeper matters like Frey's past & the mysteries around the land of Athia. On the negative side, the world is just too big. You can complete the whole storyline without even accessing half of the map. And after the story, there's no real push to explore the rest because there are no side quests. The "Detours" are shallow & there are only a handful of them. They give no real rewards & don't progress the story. A lot of the map is just empty space, & what is out there to explore is basically the same thing again & again. Every marker on the map is like, ""Defeat the enemy. Win a cloak,"" ""Defeat the enemy. Win a necklace,"" ""Defeat the enemy. Win some fingernail paint."" The combat is a lot of fun, but it's the ONLY thing to do in the game. There's one minor mechanic for sneaking up on "familiars," which are just cats with wings and/or horns, & each one takes like 10 seconds to do, & there are dozens of them. Everything else is just combat-based. ""Defeat these waves of enemies. Maybe defeat this boss at the end."" They should've broken it up with some racing missions utilizing the parkour or a couple of mini-games. And they should have had more towns or villages where people can be interacted with, because outside of the main city, there's just hostile lands with nothing but fighting & cat-taming. The economy is a complete joke. For completing any of these missions, you get things like Old Coins. I ended the game with around 150 Old Coins. There are maybe 50 coins worth of items you can actually purchase & I already purchased all of them. Same for the "Mana" you gather to unlock spells. After you've unlocked them all, there's nothing to do with Mana at all. I ended the game with over 1000 Mana gathered & it **** that it's just there, doing nothing. This more than anything made the game & its side missions feel kind of pointless. There was no drive to complete most of the side quests because my reward is just more coins and Mana that I already can't spend. The equipment is another issue. There are only 2 wearable items - cloak & necklace. And they can all be upgraded as high as you'd like using the same materials. But this means that once you've sunk a lot of those materials into one set, you don't want to have to start all over with a new set, even if you find something that you think looks cooler & you'd like to wear. Because each item you find starts out way lower than a set you've already invested in, so you'd have to spend all of your resources to get one set even up to par with what you're already using, when you could just continue to upgrade your existing set to higher levels. I only changed these items once early on in the game & after that, I couldn't justify starting over on new items at a much lower level than the set I was already wearing. I don't know what they were thinking when they decided to set the equipment up this way. Overall, there is a lot of fun to be had here but it has major problems that keep it from being a "great" game. If more time & care was spent on the activities in the world & the rewards for completing them, this could've been an instant classic. Instead, it's just "pretty fun" with a lot of confusing choices made by the developers.

The game is seriously underrated, unfortunately killed by review bombs of people that aren’t gamers / or that get paid to give “Honest” reviews based on the public following. The game is great, and so is the story. The dialog and VA didn’t bother me. I pray they make a part 2. the game has my vote

The main problem with this game is none of the characters are likeable in the slightest bit. They keep repeating the same lame lines over and over , the gameplay is crazy repetitive. This is one of the fews games I actually never got through, I stopped after the second set of powers.

Nothing to say...this game is extremely beautiful. The gameplay is extremely fun with the parkour style and the graphics are very enjoyable and have nothing to envy to other games. Very fun game, love the combat and traversal so so much! Story is a little lacking and world can seem empty with no npcs to interact with but there is plenty to do. The only good thing about this game is the parkour mechanics. I actually enjoyed running around opening chests. That said, everything else is medíocre or excruciatingly bad. Though the skill tree is interesting, the gameplay falls flat with a mix of dodging and smashing buttons. Playing on harder difficulties just turn the enemies on sponges. Battles take longer, but are not really harder AI-wise. The technical aspects (graphics/sound) are OK at most. It's not much better than a good PS4 game. And, finally, the story and character design. That is by far the worst asset of Forspoken. Frey is the pinnacle of the woke culture: self-centered, arrogant, annoying and Just won't shut up. The villains are bland, the only relevant male character is crippled and dialogues are poorly written. Tons of cringe dialogues. At least there IS an option to reduce the dialogues between Frey and Cuff to the bare minimum (if you are concerned with your mental health, USE IT). Forspoken is what happens when you ruin a potentially good story with woke culture and forgets to create a fun game in the process. It's just a terribly generic game with an abominable story and protagonist. At least it's now on PSN catalogue. You might find it mildly entertaining if you just skip all the story and focus on the parkour thing.

Noch nie soll schnell ein Spiel wieder gelöscht. So eine absolut nervige Haupt Charaktärin. Schrecklich.

This game is beautiful and the story is great. I believe a popular Youtube who didn't enjoy it gave it a bad reputation. This game is generally FF16 with a black, female character. Perhaps people thought it was DEI related and berated it, but I don't feel that playing the game. I urge everyone to give it a chance. Even Fray and cuff aren't what people say. Their relationship is actually kind of funny.

Played the game for free with it being on PS+ to see why everyone hates this game so much, and found the complete opposite. Have been having an absolute blast in this game. Yes it’s mindless. Yes Frey is insufferable. Yes the side quests are crap. But at the same time it’s been incredibly enjoyable to run through the world blasting things. It’s not perfect but it definitely doesn’t deserve the amount of hate it gets

The gameplay is fine. It's the same brain dead sandbox style "complete these 5 mini events 50 times each while you run around an 'open world'" that's been pumped out for years a la Far Cry, Assassin's Creed, Watch Dogs, etc. If I'm rating JUST the gameplay, it's like a 7. It's acceptable. The reason this game is overall horrendous, is the main character is literally the most unlikeable, irredeemable, infuriating, obnoxious, ungrateful, entitled piece of refuse I've ever seen in any medium EVER. I actively wanted her to literally die from about 10 minutes into the game, and that only ever got exponentially worse as the hours tolled on. Frey is the worst thing to ever happen to any story ever, and she completely ruins what could otherwise be an acceptable game. The writers of this game should be absolutely ashamed over how badly they marred the work of every other person involved in its development.

With all the broken games that need day 1 patches to be even playable it is embarrassing to me that this game has bad reviews. I played this at launch with no game breaking bugs and Freys reactions that have been called cringe do not hold weight, ever watch Harry Potter? Ever read Harry Potter? Harry's reaction to magic Years into being at Hogwarts is always of shock and awe, and somehow the same reaction by Frey who grew up a foster in New York City is "cringe". The story was gripping from the start and the relationship between Frey and Cuff is very underated. The game was worth full price given it being a rare complete and mostly Bug free experience. Side quests are very square enix esque, so not the best... Mostly busy work, but the main story is epic and **** gameplay is a mixture of ff15 meets infamous. So if you want a unique fantasy experience with great gameplay. Forspoken is highly recommended.
