A real eye-opening experience, for someone not well versed in the Vietnam War outside of Forrest Gump, it's a welcome change to the main game, and that's coming from someone who really enjoyed the main game! If you're looking to creep around a jungle blowing things up and snapping necks, then come to Vietnam. If you weren't a fan of the main game, this probably won't change your mind.
Hours of Darkness is a solid DLC entry for an already great title. It certainly presents a diverse style of stealth oriented gameplay, alongside a different setting to the main story. Seeing the background context of a previously acknowledged Far Cry 5 NPC is also a neat bonus. However, there are issues with the lack of content and having just one main objective in a relatively straight and linear path means that the realistic timeframe of a play-through is going to be somewhere in the region of one to three hours depending on how incentivised the player is to complete side objectives and collect items.
Despite some good moments, Far Cry 5: Hours of Darkness hasn't a single new idea to offer. It gives you what you’re expecting from a shooter set during the Vietnam War, but nothing very exciting.

Really fun DLC. I wish it were fleshed out a bit more, and the gunplay was a bit more refined. Spotting enemies from a distance also kind of eliminates the challenge, and a lot of the gameplay is a walking simulator with big empty fields. If they tightened up the map, refined the scripted sequences, and made the story less generic, it could have been a lot stronger.

Unlike the Mars expansion, there’s a significant improvement in quality here; sure, it’s not quite perfect, but it’s still a lot of fun to play. Even though the game is essentially a stealth title—as evidenced by our companions, who remain invisible until we engage in combat—the gameplay is genuinely a blast.

If you loved Far Cry 5, you will absolutely fall in love with this DLC. It's just breathtakingly well done. I highly recommend if you're interested in this DLC or the two other upcoming DLCs - Lost on Mars and Dead Living Zombies - the season pass costs about the same as buying two of the DLCs individually and getting the third for free. Have fun, and don't forget to thank a veteran, no matter what country you're from.

Simple but very nice looking FC5 spin off with known FC gameplay but in a slimmed down version. Focused on sneaking in a slim open world scenario though the vietnamese jungle, infiltrating and conquering bases and trying to finish 100% challenges. It´s real simple gameplay, but nevertheless very funny. For max immersion just try to keep in mind, you are an american GI sneaking in the vietnamese jungle and charlie is all arround you. So watch out, they are shooting sharp once you triggered them. Negatives: Unfortunaltly a bit short

It is story light and the allied AI still troublesome, it richly delivers a lush environment to survive within.

Hours of Darkness is a clever and fun but brief twist on the Far Cry formula. Its new approach to Guns for Hire AI companions gives you something other than yourself to worry about during battles, and its use of perks as a reward for stealth kills encourages my favorite style of play in an interesting way, but can bring your momentum to a screeching halt when you slip up.

If you already own the Season Pass for Far Cry 5 give it a go, but we doubt you’d want to buy Hours of Darkness separately. Save your money for the far more fun sounding zombie and alien expansions.

Cannot believe how boring this was. The AI is even weirder than in the base game. You can sometimes aim directly at them and they act like they have a wall between the bullet and him. It is just horrible. I am sorry I wasted my time and I do not recomment this in any way, shape or form. DO NOT buy the season pass as I bet all the dlc will be this boring.
