Explodemon! is a decent action platformer which bases its gameplay on the explosions and does it pretty well. Across three different planets you have to deal with a large number of enemies, but the funniest part is the puzzles you must solve in order to activate switches and doors. Too bad the boss fight are very repetitive and the graphics lack of originality.

It's let down slightly by occasionally frustrating controls and monotonous boss encounters, but the inventive level design keeps you returning for more. [Issue#203, p.99]

There's the odd difficulty spike, too. [Apr 2011, p.90]

Great platformer, and THE most underrated one. Its my favourite PSN game with by far the lowest meta score of the PSN games i have. It reminds me of Pulseman and Drill Dozer but better. You can explore the level for half hour or speedrun it in a minute. And Explodemon is a great character hes crazy; funny and cool. Hes cool when you play , dashing , exploding ,wallsliding(btw the coolest wallslide i ever seen) but when he speaks hes crazy and funny. For me this is the best platformer on ps3.

Suitably, this notion serves as a separate allegory for Explodemon! as a whole - a very loving homage to its 8-bit heritage that modernizes the now 'retro' design approach for both the right cost and length.

Mastering each stage, finding all of the collectibles, and earning various Trophies should prove to be a very satisfying experience.

Explodemon can't speak right (intentionally, that is), but explodes in a much more sophisticated manner. Casual and core gamers alike will love the simplicity of the controls, but don't expect too much variety.

An eclectic mix of platforming and combat mechanics help compensate for Explodemon's mundane inclinations.

Explodemon tries its best to bring back fond memories of games that are nearly twenty-five years old, but it's geared towards such a niche audience that most gamers will be hard pressed at finding any long-term enjoyment.

16-bit retrostylings, humorous writing and the explosion-based platforming entertain for a while, but unless collecting items and looking for secrets is your cup of tea, the game gets repetitive even in the short time it takes to finish.

The irony is that in mining some unforgettable games, Curve has delivered a forgettable hodgepodge. [Mar 2011, p.105]

SummaryExplodemon! is a 2.5D platform action game brought kicking and screaming into the HD era. Influenced by classic Japanese games from the golden era of the SNES, players use Explodemon’s self-destructive nature to combat enemies and fly through the air, all the while solving a huge variety of physics-based puzzles (and, naturally, causing ...
