Blades of Fire
Medieval swordplay plays a big role in Blades of Fire, where combat is the strongest part of the game.

Blades of Fire combines and enriches the Soulslike and RPG formulas with some new ideas and mechanics that are both welcome and frustrating. While the game looks great and diverse, the gameplay doesn't always work out as well.
Good ideas hindered by poor execution keep Blades of Fire from being the sharpest tool in the shed.

A good, well-rounded game. It has fun and engaging combat, great crafting mechanics, and top-notch exploration and world design — sometimes giving me the same excitement of discovering a hidden treasure, enemy, or shortcut that I felt playing God of War and FromSoftware games. The game has some rough edges, like the story (which I would love to be deeper), the fact that some characters get very little screen time, and a few missing quality-of-life improvements. But overall, I had a good time. I am definitely excited for the studio’s next games. Great job, guys!

Best 3d metroidvania I've ever played. Combat is genuinely something new, which is rare this day and age. Amazing game. Worth every penny. MercurySteam are Metroid Masters, literally (dread dev)

Blades of Fire is an engaging action-adventure with an intriguing story, challenging combat, and a well-developed Forge mechanic. Exploring the world and collecting items and lore makes the experience even more rewarding. A must-play for fans of tactical action and new fantasy worlds.

Blades of Fire might not revolutionize the genre, but it doesn’t need to. What it offers is a polished, confident, and deeply satisfying action experience grounded in clear design principles and executed with purpose. By drawing inspiration from giants of the genre and combining those ideas into a streamlined, compelling whole, MercurySteam has crafted a surprise that deserves attention. Whether you come for the satisfying weapon crafting, the intense yet accessible combat, or the story of rebellion and divine legacy, Blades of Fire delivers a memorable journey. It’s not bloated, it's not pretentious, it’s just good game design, executed with passion.

Blades of Fire isn’t for everyone, and that’s fine. Losing your best weapon only to be transported right back to the beginning of a segment with only degraded and broken remaining weapons can be a truly painful experience, but if you persevere and push on, you’ll soon discover that Blades of Fire is a real gem. Its original focus on weapon building is refreshing, and there’s something about it that feels modern and yet so distinctly old-school. Blades of Fire is challenging and punishing, it’s true, but as Taylor Swift once said, “Nothing safe is worth the drive.” Prevail through the peril, and Blades of Fire will reward you.

But Why Tho?
Blades of Fire is a well-made package focusing more on crafting creativity than physical battles. It forces players to take a more thoughtful approach instead of prioritizing fast-paced action.

At its best, this blacksmith action adventure endears with great characters, engrossing action, and retro simplicity. Attempts to chase industry trends often hold it back.

A flawed but interesting attempt at a mash-up of everything from God Of War to Dark Souls, but where crafting weapons is often more fulfilling than using them.

MercurySteam's worldbuilding adds clutter, not depth, obstructing a concept that's left feeling embryonic. [Issue#412, p.104]

Hai creato una GEMMA. Uno dei migliori giochi a cui abbia giocato quest'anno, non lo dico per lusingarti.

The biggest and most important question - is Blades of Fire really the successor of Blade of Darkness we have all been waiting for MercurySteam to finally deliver? And the answer sadly is no, not by a long shot. While fun enough on its own, the key components are simply not there. No combo system, despite the chosen control scheme lending itself excellently to be used for one. No multiple distinct characters with diverse playstyles. While the number of available weapons is larger than the combined arsenal of the 4 BoD heroes, the movesets are actually not nearly as diverse, due to a 90% overlap of the available moves within the 7 weapon categories, with very few exceptions. And while fairly mature, Blades of Fire is not really a Dark Fantasy, like Blade of Darkness. And unlike Blade of Darkness which is nearly endlessly replayable, i failed to see a real reason to start a New Journey in Blades of Fire.I really hope that this game flopping as bad as it did does not take MercurySteam down.. hopefully they will live on to give us a future, more refined evolution of what they tried to do here, and also hopefully they can manage to secure the funds to put it on an actual games tore that people use, instead of the graveyard that is the EGS.

Physical copy paid $60 at release. Story fine, action strong, forging unique. Never finished due to not very intuitive progression. Had to lean too heavily on walkthrus to find a valid path. Dumped 40 hours and won’t go back in until progression is more streamlined for a casual gamer such as myself. I appreciate the ability for an easier mode or shortcut just to get through a portion. This should be added sometime.

Do not buy this ****'s that simple. The Forging mechanic is garbage and a waste time. I wanted to buy this game so badly and played the demo 3 times but this weapon forging piece is just pure trash. I am just going to leave it at that and you will see.....never played a game that made me this frustrated to play becuase of how the weapons system works. The 2 is for graphics but this game is now dead to me.

C'est injouable, les animations de combat sont ratées !! Dommage car le reste pouvait être bien..
