Animal Crossing: City Folk is one of the most charming and entertaining life sims out there, with lots to explore and experience.

City Folk just seems like a huge missed opportunity - either that, or a lazy cash-in on Nintendo's newfound casual audience. If it's the former, they ought to just call it Wii Mortgage Payments.

After putting literally weeks and months into playing both the GameCube original and the Nintendo DS sequel, it was very disappointing to see that, after putting nearly two weeks into Animal Crossing: City Folk that very little effort went into the design beyond porting and enhancing the Nintendo DS game.

It's certainly strange to play with Wii remote to play what is essentially a simulation game. But despite that the game is very solid. Like always your villager is headed to a new home. You meet Rover in a bus and asks questions which affect enviroment you will end up. Once you arrive to the village, you are then greeted by Tom Nook. In his usual fashion he offers you a house which you get to choose. There's just one problem: you don't have the money to pay for the house. But don't worry, because Tom also offers you a part time job from his store, so that you can pay your debt. This also works as a tutorial for the player. Like always you get to collect fish, bugs and fossils, that you can donate to the museum. Though it can be challenging to capture one of these things regarding the odd controls and spawning time inconsistent. This game brings new features to online play with friends where players can live in individual houses in your town. There is also a new hub area (The City), where the player can shop and experience cultural activities. It looks little rundown at first, but the more times you make purchases there, the more prospereous it will grow. The villagers are also much more savage with their dialogue. Like in the previous games, these villagers have much more personality compared how they devolve later on. Depending who you are talking to, dialogue can come off a bit mean. And if you ignore them for certain period of time, they will let you know how mad they are. They don't even need much of incentive to move away. They can get triggered over the most mundane things. But that's also where most of the fun comes from. All in all it is a fun game, although I do wish there was much more to do.

A lovely game for the right people. It may not appeal to more hardcore gamers, but for anyone else it’s excellent.

Only the stony-hearted would fail to appreciate at least some of this game. [Jan 2009, p.48]

Best game some say it’s the worst but amiibo festival was a 46 Though New Horizons is amazing I like both City Folk and New Horizons

However, this is a solid entry for gamers that have yet to indulge in the Animal Crossing experience.

There are several extremely frustrating issues with this incarnation of Animal Crossing. That said, what was written in the beginning of this review still holds true: the core game is still extremely charming.

There simply isn’t enough of anything new and revolutionary to warrant years of dedicated play filling the same catalogues of collectables and earning awards that no-one except yourself will ever care about.

This game is and was perfect for those who didn't play Wild World or GCN. Honestly, this game is not NEARLY as bad as some lead it out to be. The city, while lacking, has some of the best music in an Animal Crossing game to date and holidays were brought back after Wild World stripped them away. Plus, City Folk had online connectivity that most people could actually use, and grass deterioration, while annoying, isn't the end of the world. Overall, City Folk has got to be one of the best games on the Wii.

City Folk's biggest drawback is that it is not different enough from Wild World, the DS portable entry that came less than two years before this Wii title. It's a fine game, but just light on content that makes it stand out... many musical cues and dialogue are the same, the items are the same, and the objectives are the same. You could say this about any Animal Crossing mainline game, but I expected more out of a home console title. On the upside, it still is Animal Crossing, and it also introduced the Wii Speak accessory, which allowed for online communication to be easier than typing one letter at a time.

Well, at least it's not a 1 out of 10, right? This is another Animal Crossing snoozefest, doing very little to innovate from what Wild World did. The most egregious part is that they didn't even TRY to get Francis Ford Coppola for this one, which insults my intelligence. I heard from Nintendo Power that Coppola actually WANTED to do this one and they turned him down. WHY?
