1348 Ex Voto
A short medieval tale that aims high but falls short. This debut from Sedleo Games attempts to evoke the simpler, linear experiences of seventh-generation titles, but lacks both the budget and ideas to succeed. Combat is unremarkable, puzzles uninspired, the story fragmented, and the technical state poor. What remains are sympathetic performances from the leads.
It’s uncomfortable for a critic to think of a game in terms of what it could be, and not what it is. But having what little there is here, I’m left only with the sucking vacuum of this game that could have been more than a tedious medieval combat simulator, if it was more invested in exploring its ideas than being insecure about what a game needs to be.
Honestly, I don't fully understand what the developers of 1348 Ex Voto were trying to achieve with their game. It seems more concerned with telling a story—one that ultimately doesn't work—than with creating a fun game. Visually, it's very well done, but the numerous minor graphical glitches, its dizzying camera work, and its clunky, unpolished gameplay mean it doesn't stand out in that regard either. The progression systems are mere window dressing with minimal impact on gameplay, and its length is excessively short, even for the genre it belongs to. Except for the most curious, it’s not a game worthy of much attention. [No recommended]

If you're willing to forgive a certain amount of roughness and a basic combat system, 1348 Ex Voto will take you on a pleasant journey through medieval Tuscany lasting five or six hours, depending on your patience with exploration. I'm not a keen observer, so I missed a lot of upgrades, but I still enjoyed the game.

1348: Ex Voto is a rough-around-the-edges project that still manages to be engaging. With a bigger budget and proper polish, it could have stood alongside Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice or A Plague Tale: Innocence, but that didn't happen.

Amazing! From the environment to the combat, I loved everything about it! I’m playing on PS5 and didn’t encounter any issues. The graphics are stunning and run flawlessly! The story is really well-written, the combat is great and challenging! 10/10.

1348 Ex Voto is a great game with a strong story, even stronger voice cast, a combat system that's deeper than it's given credit for and ultimately offers just the right amount of game for its low price tag.

1348 Ex Voto joins games like A Plague’s Tale and Kingdom Come: Deliverance in giving players a slice of medieval life. Unlike those titles, 1348 Ex Voto is a short time commitment with a relatively simple story and unique character dynamics. If the world weren’t quite so barren and the combat were less frustrating, 1348 Ex Voto’s attractive environments could be the foundation for a special little game.

1348: Ex Voto is an interesting game with a great atmosphere, but it has a lot of problems. Its strongest point is the gloomy mood of the medieval world, which draws the player into a plague-ridden environment. However, the title suffers from technical shortcomings, repetitive combat and an empty world.

Despite its fascinating 14th-century Italian setting and a combat system inspired by real historical martial arts, 1348 Ex Voto collapses under the weight of its own ambition. The rushed narrative, clunky and repetitive gameplay loop, jarringly empty environments, and a severe lack of technical polish overshadow the undeniable passion of the small development team. It's a game with great potential that sadly bites off much more than it can chew, leaving players with a frustratingly unrefined and buggy experience.

There are good ideas in 1348 Ex Voto, but they're undercut by the shoddy implementation of its systems. The voice cast carries the game, with several amazing performances woven throughout. Unfortunately, the whole experience is letdown by a variety of glitches, fundamental design flaws with the combat, confusing levels, and several jarring story transitions that make it seem as if 1348 Ex Voto was shoved out the door before it was ready.

This game lives rent-free in my head. I freaking love it! It's different, it tries new combat styles and loves to be thorough and detailed - if you seek them out that is. Ex voto is one of my favourite games of all time. Although it is a bit rough around the edges (the devs are regularly patching it), it has a LOT of charm and of course: Lesbians!! I've never played a game like this before and it feels like I found a piece of me that was just missing before and now I'm itching for more.

Giving a game a 0 with a review like "The main character is ugly and annoying" has me a bit confused. I mean, I played the game for as long as I could take, and did not enjoy it. But there was plenty of other reasons why. With this being an indie game I always think about how much that would **** seeing reviews like that for a game that you put all your time and effort into. Especially when I can easily think **** that personified Ugly and annoying protagonist.... Horizon Forbidden West. And that game did not get anyone rating it a 0! LoL!

Horrible PC performance. Horrible combat system. This isn't a full-fledged game, but a toy product. Another two years of development and it might have been okay. This shouldn't have made it into production.
