Sausage Party

User Scorewcrosher
Aug 13, 2016
Incredibly vulgar, while also having a lot on its mind, Sausage Party manages to be as hilarious as I could have hoped for, while also having something intelligent to say about controversial topics. The voice actors are excellent, the writing is outstanding, and I think it is a great film for any fans of super rated-R comedy.

A movie that never tries to be anything more than what it is, Green Room is a brilliantly gory, incredibly well directed thrill ride that I enjoyed thoroughly from start to finish. The acting performances, especially from Yelchin and Stewart are excellent, and, while I wouldn't call this a horror movie, Green Room is one of the best movies I have seen this year.

Criminal

Apr 18, 2016
Criminal gets good performances from Kevin Costner and Gal Gadot, but absolutely wastes them on a incredibly generic storyline, boring action sequences, and plot holes left and right. For a movie that looks to be so original, it's amazing how generic it quickly becomes.

With a darker tone, some of the best visual effects ever put on screen, and excellent voice work from the entire cast, The Jungle Book may actually improve on the 1967 original. It's funny, it's dramatic, sometimes it's even a little scary, but I think Favreau nailed it with this remake.

The Boss

User Scorewcrosher
Apr 8, 2016
While Melissa McCarthy plays her typical Melissa McCarthy role well, and there are a few scenes that were truly funny, The Boss ends up being a very cliché film with an absurd third act. The movie, quite simply, falls apart in the last half hour and becomes way bigger than it ever had to be, and the film suffers quite a bit for that. There are a good amount of laugh out loud moments, but there are just as many duds, and the plot can't make up for them.

Hardcore Henry is like no action movie I've ever seen before. The nonstop action and the innovative first-person camera works to this movie's benefit, as it is simply a ridiculously enjoyable time. Sure, the story is iffy and there's a lack of character development, but if you go in with the expectation of a balls-to-the wall action movie like no other, this is the movie for you.

A movie that is a treat for all ages, Zootopia is brilliantly animated, has tremendous work from its voice actors, and has some really powerful themes of discrimination that never feel overbearing. This is a great movie for both parents and children alike to see, as it is incredibly entertaining, but also has an important meaning.

Incredibly well-acted, beautifully shot, and with a gripping score, The Witch is a tremendously terrifying film with some legitimate drama tied in. This movie consistently created extreme tension, and is definitely one of the best horror films I have seen in the last few years.

The worst Nicholas Sparks film to date. The romance is unbelievable, the characters don't age over a span of seven years, and every line of dialogue that comes out of people's mouths sounds incredibly fake. This is a movie strictly for diehard fans of Nicholas Sparks. For everyone else, you are going to want to gouge your eyes out 30 minutes in.

Feb 12, 2016
While its filled with absurd cameos from every celebrity you can think of, Zoolander 2 has no plot and lacks the comedy needed for this sequel to succeed. What this movie comes down to is Stiller and Wilson trying to **** the bottom of an empty barrel of jokes, and the film falls terribly flat.

This film, while slow building, is an absolute marvel. Rampling and Courtenay are both incredible, the story is well done, and the emotion that is hidden beneath the surface is so well created that it makes the whole movie all that more powerful. The end scene is nothing short of perfection, and I cannot thinking of a movie that has had me thinking more after the credits all year.

The Finest Hours

User Scorewcrosher
Jan 29, 2016
With solid acting from Pine and Affleck and some intense scenes, The Finest Hours had the potential. However, much of it is wasted on a romance that doesn't work, flat dialogue and a lack of suspense or tension. Much of the scenes in the water did work for me, but nearly everything on land felt incredibly fake, which is sad considering how amazing the true story is. The Finest Hours is fine, but it is certainly disappointing.

Dirty Grandpa

User Scorewcrosher
Jan 22, 2016
While Efron and De Niro aren't the worst, Dirty Grandpa suffers from trying to stuff way too many jokes, many of them being very unfunny, into a short runtime, creating a movie that drags for ages and comes off as offensive rather than comedy. The plot is uninteresting, the side characters are awful, and Dirty Grandpa is simply a bad time at the theater.

Horrendously animated, incredibly unfunny, and a plot that is laughable at best, Norm of the North is the worst animated movie in recent memory in every single aspect. It's preachy in it's themes, its jokes fall flat every time, and its animation looks so bad that it is astounding that the film made it to theaters at all. Do not take your children to see Norm of the North, you're only making them dumber.

While it may start off very slow and have some Michael Bay-isms in it, 13 Hours is Bay's most serious effort to date, and he does a pretty solid job. The acting is good, the story is compelling, and Bay is able to pay respect to the true story. With my expectations so low, this movie was all that I could have wanted it to be, and I have to respect Bay for making a positive move in his career.

This is a modern Adam Sandler movie. Whether that is your thing or not determines if you will like this movie. For me, this is yet another unfunny, terribly offensive, overly long slug of a time that I would never in my wildest dreams pass off as comedy. The worst part about this one is that it looks like Sandler is trying to be dramatic, and that's just terrible. I give this movie a 1 for not making me spend money to sit through this pile of garbage, but that doesn't mean there's an excuse that a movie this bad was made.

Director Spike Lee creates something truly creative and original with "Chi-Raq." It's fresh, has quite a lot to say about many controversial topics in today's society, and is vastly entertaining. This movie may not be very well edited, and feels a bit overpacked, but it can be overlooked for just how creative the film is.

No one is a hero in this film, but Spotlight is a marvel to watch.

Craig still fits the role incredibly well and the use of practical effects and solid camerawork are present, but Spectre misses the mark on its plot, its attempts to be more campy than its last three predecessors, and its stunning lack of Christoph Waltz. Spectre tries to match with the amazing Bond films like Casino Royale and Skyfall, but instead reaches the points of Quantum of Solace.

Pan lacks all of the whimsy and joy that makes the classic story so great. Instead, we get a dark, unenjoyable, barren of comedy storyline with horrid dialogue and crap performances from everyone with the exception of Jackman. The CGI is annoying, the whiny, mopey rendition of Peter Pan by Levi Miller is even worse, and the absolute mess of a plot is even worse than that. Pan is the origin story that no one asked for, and is thoroughly unenjoyable from start to finish.
