Superman6
Jul 11, 2025
Its not a bad film, but very mediocre, by-the-numbers, predictable and cheesy. The humour is typically juvenile in James Gunn style and not really funny. It was OK but nothing **** Luthor in this movie is not a patch on Gene Hackmans version, Nicholas Hoult is a great actor but the character is REALLY one dimensional in this film, like a parody Lex Luthor. The actors that play Superman and Lois do an OK passable job but nothing great. The plot is your typical entirely predictable superhero fayre, I wont be interested in the Supergirl film if it is this standard of movie. In summary this was a remake that didn't need to be made. Doesn't add anything new.

Thunderbolts*6
May 5, 2025
I liked the trailers and the early reviews were good, I went in looking forward to top tier Marvel again, but this isn't it. Each to their own, but I think anyone that rates this a 9 or 10 must have had a lobotomy. Its the same old story that has been told so many times over and over, by-the-numbers formulaic and entirely predictable. If you've seen the trailers, you have seen the movie. It has a theme around depression, but only in the most U rated superficial and shallow way that a Marvel movie can. Pixar has dealt with the subject of feelings in WAY more depth and nuance, the depression shown in the film is just a very superficial plot device that is giving the antagonist some motivation and backstory, nothing more. The ending is extremely underwhelming. The good points are that it is well constructed (even though it is the standard basic Marvel plot) the CGI is mostly very good and the actors all try their best with what they have. It is better than a lot of Marvels recent failings so there's that.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga5
Jun 4, 2024
I didn't really have any interest in a Furiosa back story but LOVED Fury Road so went to see it anyway. Overall it was just OK, but not anywhere remotely close to being as good as Fury Road. There are a ton of plot conveniences, key characters escape and no-one bats an eyelid or says anything, people don't recognise easily recognisable characters because it suits the plot. Some of the plot holes were a mile wide. Anna Taylor-Joy does her best in the role, but isn't a convincing protagonist and the backstory doesn't warrant the making of a film, its really not an interesting story. The entire film looks like it was shot in front **** screen and in a backlot somewhere, precious little looks like it was filmed on location, it has none of the gritty realism and practical effects that FR had, and has a lot of obvious CGI which pulls you out of the action. Surprisingly the "soundtrack" is also not a patch on FR, its mostly just noise repeated from Fury Road. The world-building is good and the film just about managed to keep my attention for the runtime, although it is overly long. I went back to see FR in the cinema multiple times but don't have any interest in watching this again.

Rebel Moon Part 2: The Scargiver1
Apr 19, 2024
This film, like the one before it, takes slo-mo to ridiculous excess. It is not needed and becomes a total chore to sit through. It seems to have become Zack Snyders one-trick-pony and is really overused. If that isn't enough the first half of the movie moves at such a glacial pace nothing of any interest happens. The actors are all mediocre to bad and I didn't develop any affinity to any of them or care about any of the characters at all. Many of the plot elements make no sense at all, people have primative farming tools and advanced weapons, it's just badly thought out nonsense. Apparently this franchise was handed around and even supposed to be a Star Wars spin-off, its clear to see why nobody wanted it and I'm surprised Netflix hasn't cancelled it already.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire1
Apr 4, 2024
I've watched some trash in my time, but this is amongst the worst. Compared to the excellent Godzilla Minus One this really is an insult to anyones intelligence. I wasn't expecting much, CGI fighting CGI was the premise and that's what I was expecting but even that was plodding and boring. The bits in-between with the humans was just terrible. Terrible acting, terrible exposition, I had enough of it by about half way through. The most the critics could say about this film was that it was "fun", but I didn't find much fun in it. The jokes didn't land and the CGI didn't have any of the excitement or impact I expected.

Dune: Part Two10
Mar 1, 2024
I cant find anything to fault with this film, I saw it in IMAX and was absolutely blown away at how the bar has been raised from Part 1. The film is exceptionally well crafted and the cinematography is breathtaking in places. The score is epic and matches the film flawlessly, I can't remember my seat shaking as much for any film and at the same time it did not feel overdone or gimmicky. The acting is also impeccable, Zendaya particularly impressed me as well as Austin Butler, although the entire cast doesn't put a foot wrong. Part 1 was superb and somehow Denis has turned it up a few more notches to perfection. It will be an absolute travesty if the trilogy is not finished. I am sure during the run of Part 2, WB will announce that Part 3 will be greenlit, WB execs would be nuts not to finish such a master work, it really is up there with the Godfather and LoTR as an incredible work of cinema.

I was expecting it to be bad, but it was worse than I expected. I thought it started off quite well, but it got progressively worse and worse as the film went on. Dua Lipa, Henry Cavill and John Cena were a bait-and-switch and hardly in the film at all, especially Dua Lipa who gets a couple of minutes screen time. The film is chock full of obvious CGI and green screen. The action is boring, it has the cliche "uploading" progress bar that moves at a glacial pace, you would think they are uploading gigabytes of data and not a single file, it just does not work any more and is so passe. Bryce Dallas Howard seems completely out of her depth as an action star, but plays the author role well enough. A serious contender for Worst Film of The Year.

Feb 2, 2024
I gave it a chance but it is totally unwatchable, I cant think of a worse film I've seen in my whole life. Literally half the script is profanities, Snoop dogg cant act to save his life, and you've seen the story a thousand times before. Complete and utter doggdodo. Snoop dogg should stick to singing, this is just so embarrassingly BAD.

Oct 1, 2023
I would rate the film a 9, I was engrossed from start to finish, it has some neat twists and turns, and outstanding CGI and world-building, and some of the best use of Dolby Atmos surround sound that I've ever heard, it all adds to the immersion and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It is one of my favourite films of the year, up there with Oppenheimer for exceptional film-making, I wouldn't quite call it a masterpiece, but would say its close. I can't really say anything negative about it, the acting, pacing, plot, effects and sound were all spot on. See it in a Dolby Cinema if you can, the overhead Atmos effects are superb!

Barbie4
Sep 9, 2023
The film does not live up to the marketing. Its about as subtle as a steamroller and deep as a puddle. There must be primary school books with more depth and nuance than this film. The music is good and the plot moves along at pace but its like it was written by an angsty tween. "Yay feminism" is about as deep as the message gets and its pretty much the entire purpose and plot of the film. It doesn't offer up anything to think about, just a bubblegum world that is just a carbon copy of the toys. With all the "Barbenhiemer" hype and marketing I expected more from the movie, Oppenheimer and Barbie are about as polar opposites of film-making as its possible to get.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse9
Jun 5, 2023
After watching the movie twice, once in a Dolby cinema and the other IMAX I would rate the film a 9 overall. I thought the first movie was groundbreaking, inventive and tightly scripted. The first 20 minutes of the second movie is sublime, then the opening credits arrive and it's mostly more of the first movie dialed up to the max. The pacing is a little uneven, the first film had a great flow but in this the pacing is overly slow in places and drawn out and frantic in others especially as it rushes to a cliffhanger ending. I wish they had finished the story in a single movie rather than going for the cash-grab route by kind of forcing people to watch the next movie to see the ending. They could have finished the episode with better pacing, such as by chopping out the party scenes which were just repeating plot points that had already been made earlier. The sound in the IMAX screening was perfect, in the Dolby Atmos screening it was overly loud and caused some of the dialogue to be too be difficult to hear in places. Full credit to the animators, they have created another visual masterpiece, with gorgeous design again elevating the medium to new levels, each world is unique yet they all feel cohesive. I rate the first film a perfect 10, this one with a tighter script and the whole story in a single film would have been a 10 again, but overall its not quite as good as the first. I will definitely buy it on 4k UHD to watch at home again.

Its a Hallmark Channel style movie, but its not good enough even for the Hallmark channel. There is zero chemistry between the leads, the "jokes" don't land, the action is unconvincing, the pair are awkward together and despite the star cast they cant save this turkey of a movie.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania3
Feb 17, 2023
Formulaic, predictable and boring. MCU definitely peaked with Infinity War and has been going downhill since. If this is how Phase 5 is they may as well stop for a while and give the franchise a rest for a while.

Thor: Love and Thunder1
Jul 10, 2022
Yet another phase 4 Marvel movie that proves they should have stopped at Endgame. Phase 4 seems to be throw anything at the wall and see what sticks and so far not much has, and not this movie. It has so much try-hard humour that misses the mark and just isn't funny. It also shoehorns in a load of identity politics and tries to be oh so woke. It seems like Disney hasn't a clue what to do with the MCU.
Jul 10, 2022
Minions: The Rise of Gru5
Jul 10, 2022
It seems like most of the 10/10 reviews are trolling, copying a meme. I thought it was very average, the animation was as good as would be expected and the story was OK, it wasn't very funny no-one in the cinema laughed out loud at any of the humour throughout the entire runtime. I thought the previous Minions/Despicable Me movies were so much better, this felt like just a by-the-numbers mediocre sequel.

The Batman5
Jun 2, 2022
I found this movie really boring. It's all been done before, the darkness, muted colour scheme and mumbled dialog didn't do anything positive in my view. The story and film started off really well but after the first act started to drag and get more and more boring. They could have cut an hour from the film and not lost anything of value. It dragged on too slowly, the plot was obvious and the characters have been played better in the past.

Moonfall0
May 3, 2022
One of the worst movies I have ever seen. The dialog is excruciatingly bad and corny, not even in a so-bad-its-good kind of way. The CGI and special effects are cheap looking and most of the film was made in-front **** screen and it is blatantly obvious. You don't end up caring about any of the characters and the plot is a jumbled mess that contradicts itself in places. Its astonishing how this kind of trash gets financed.

Sing 29
Jan 9, 2022
This is a rare sequel that improves on the original in almost every way. The plot is fast paced and doesn't slow down through the entire runtime, it is very good natured and heartwarming and you can't help but root for the crew of characters. There is a nice payoff at the end of the film, and some nice humour throughout. The soundtrack is better than the first film, and has some well known hit songs that are appropriately used in the film, they fit well with the animation and dont seem to be tacked on. The quality of the animation is really well done throughout, on second watch I spotted more details and enjoyed the film almost as much as the first time round. This is a really good film for all the family to watch and enjoy together.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife9
Dec 5, 2021
"Bustin' makes you feel good", and this movie certainly did. My kids and I really liked this film, it takes a little while to get going and establish the new characters and family but has some nice humour, callbacks to the original movie, and signposting whats to come to keep it entertaining. The story builds nicely and the 3rd act is brilliant. This is the way a sequel should be done and handed over to a younger generation. The special effects were well done, particulary the scenes with the Ectomobile. I thought the cast did a great job and the grandkids acting was really well done. I could certainly watch them in another GB movie, and my daughters also liked it and are interested in watching the original. I thought this movie had a lot of charm and respect for the original film, unlike the awful 2016 travesty.

It has a Mature rating but is made for an immature audience. The pacing and plot is all over the place. Your enjoyment will depend on if you like juvenile humour or not as the movie is packed full if it. I grew tired of it quite quickly, its a dumb movie for the dumbest of dumb moviegoers.

The Tomorrow War6
Jul 2, 2021
You've seen it all before. This film borrows all its script from other movies, and uses all the usual action movie tropes. I thought that the CGI was very obvious and stuck out like a sore thumb, the physics and lighting was off so it was obvious the CG aliens were not actually there in the environment so that took away any tension or threat for me. The aliens were shouty with pointy teeth but not menacing at all. JD Simmons is brilliant, and steals the show in every scene he is in, but otherwise I found it quite underwhelming, especially for the money that must have been spent on it. No wonder it missed the cinema and went straight to streaming, I think it would have been a flop.

A Quiet Place Part II10
Jun 13, 2021
I enjoyed this as much as the first film, I thought it was equally inventive, it didn't do the predictable thing and expanded upon the families plight in new and exciting ways. It excels in **** suspense and each of the tense scenes has a satisfactory payoff, especially the ending. The sound mixing is exceptional in Atmos and again really adds to the originality and inventiveness of the film. I would definitely go and see a Part 3, and will be buying the UHD when released to watch again.

Rogue Hostage5
Jun 11, 2021
This is a low budget made-for-TV type action movie. It is certainly watchable, as long as you can ignore lots of "they would never do that" plot conveniences. Tyrese Gibson is excellent as the lead, I would watch more of his movies, and John Malkovich is as good as ever. The lady actor in the red dress should stop "acting" immediately. I found it entertaining enough, with a bit better screenplay it could have been excellent for a low budget movie.

Awake7
Jun 11, 2021
I enjoyed this a lot more than I expected to based on the negative reviews. The film has quite an original premise and is well executed. It is a lower budget movie but is well acted, shot and directed. I thought it was well paced and kept me interested and watching from start to the end. The young actors were great and the lead actor carried the movie well. I thought it had a satisfying ending and would recommend it. It is a standard Netflix production, so dont expect over the top Hollywood CGI and effects. A good story, well told.

My Fair Lady10
May 25, 2021
I have just watched this for the first time in the new remastered 4K version and WOW it looks astonishing, the amount of detail captured from the original 65mm film is incredible. The costumes, indoor and outdoor scenes are glorious and I was captivated by the story from start to finish. It has great songs, some of which are famous and I didn't know were attributed to this musical and the two leads, particularly Audrey Hepburn, sing and act really well. I thoroughly enjoyed this film and will definitely be watching it again.

Wrath of Man9
May 25, 2021
This is a really well made action movie, well scripted, well paced and well acted. The cinematography is also really well done. Jason Statham gives a good performance as always, quiet and composed he portrays his character excellently. Like any Guy Ritchie film, it has a nicely crafted script and keeps you guessing through the movie, it has a good pay off at the end. One of the best films I've seen this year and more entertaining than most of the mindless popcorn flicks that Hollywood churn out.
May 23, 2021
Army of the Dead3
May 23, 2021
This film has some of the worst, most amateur, cinematography I have ever seen. What kind of noob cameraman shoots a portrait shot in shadow against an extremely bright background??? It was obviously a creative choice, because the exposition is delivered in back-lit darkness over and over and over again. As a photographer I found it infuriating. When someone is delivering dialogue you want their face lit so you can see properly what they are saying and the facial expressions, not people talking in shadow repeatedly. Maybe it was done on purpose so you cant see the wooden acting very well, who knows but I found it to be terrible. Large parts of the film are shot at a ridiculously shallow depth of field, leaving the subject of the frame out of focus. Some of the action sequences are a messy blur and much of it could be filmed anywhere as the background is continually out of focus. Its like someone has just discovered bokeh and totally overuses the effect when it is not needed or beneficial. As for the movie itself, it was fun in a few places, had a couple of funny moments but was mostly fairly predictable and dull. It may have been because I was really looking forward to the film based on the trailers, the actual film itself was a bit of a let down in comparison. If you've seen the trailers you've seen 95% of the best parts of the entire 2.5 hour running time. It could easily have had 30-45 minutes chopped off with no loss and would have probably made for a better film. It felt it dragged on and on in places where the action slowed to some heartfelt dialogue, but I cared little for the characters, so wasn't really bothered about all the relationship parts of the film. It also had excessive slow-mo. It was a passable movie, but nothing special and certainly not something I would want to watch more than once.

SAS: Red Notice2
Mar 19, 2021
I was looking forward to watching this film, the cast is half decent so I'm not sure how they all manage to act so unconvincingly. I think it has a lot to do with the script which is comically bad, full of plot holes and the characters motivations and consistency are all over the place. The characters actions don't make any sense a lot of the time, which would be OK if the action carried the film along, but the action sequences are also quite comically bad. The action is like a dud firework, you expect to be at least somewhat entertained but the action is badly choreographed and very underwhelming. It like a very bad straight-to-TV 80s low budget film. Looking at the credits they have a load of people that worked on the movie, but they seemingly forgot to hire any military advisors. Why are they using grenade launchers as weapons in close combat house clearance?? It makes no sense. You ask questions like this all the time, I think all the advisors got furloughed and Andy McNab is just allowing the use of his pseudonym for the cash. Even the love story (yes, it its core it really is a love story) is really corny and doesn't work. Some of the dialogue, especially in the ending is just so unbelievably, facepalmingly, bad, and not in a so-bad-its-good way. Who Dares Wins, almost 40 years old, still hasn't been bettered and if you want to watch a SAS/action movie just watch that instead it is leagues better in every way.

Earwig and the Witch2
Feb 4, 2021
Most obviously this doesn't look like a Ghibli film, it looks like your average low budget Saturday morning kids-channel animation. The 3D animation looks off, flat and oddly shaded, it has a kind of "uncanny valley" look that I just couldn't get over. The story isn't much better, and isn't interesting or charming or captivating like the Ghibli classics. I really hope Studio Ghibli continue with their wonderful hand-drawn animation that they are famed and loved for. I think if they continue down this dull CGI path they will end up as just another anonymous CGI animation studio and will throw away what made the studio so famous.

Dec 26, 2020
Not really a childrens movie, a lot of it will go right over the top of kids heads and they wont fully understand it. It is a more adult surreal version of Inside Out. Some of the animation is beautiful and abstract concepts are lovingly visualised, the whole movie has some excellent artwork. The Atmos soundtrack is also really well done, especially during the Beyond parts of the film. Overall I enjoyed it but it doesn't hit the heights of some of the other Pixar classics, I would say this is a good but not great film. At its heart the story has a pretty obvious, predicable and somewhat corny and preachy message.

Dec 26, 2020
I was looking forward to watching this, I enjoyed the first WW film, but this is nowhere near as good. The CGI is really bad, it looks really fake, particularly the scene in the mall, it looks more like a computer game than a movie. The story is also full of moralising and is over long and very boring, I was hoping for more 80's elements but that was wasted along with my time watching this lame sequel.

The Croods: A New Age4
Dec 22, 2020
Its a pretty average movie, it has a lot of over the top identity politics that Hollywood is continually ramming down our thoats at the moment and all the male characters are portrayed as dumb and hopeless, its like a 1920s damsel in distress film with the genders swapped... so progressive. The Mr Betterman character is especially nauseating and difficult to watch. The animation is decent enough and it kept my childrens attention to the end. There was one funny laugh out loud moment, but otherwise it was a pretty mediocre animation that we probably would never watch again. Trolls 2 was so much better than this.

This is by far one of the worst films I've ever seen. There aren't many films I can't watch all the way through, but this was one of them. It starts with a very Michael-Bay over the top car chase sequence which is watchable and then decends into complete rubbish. The 'plot' is incoherent nonsense, the script is terrible and the pacing is all over the place. I grew bored of the movie really quickly, didn't care for any of the characters and had no interest in seeing where the story went, basically because there wasn't one, it was just a hot mess of dumb action sequences stringed together. Lifes too short to sit through this kind of garbage.

Solo: A Star Wars Story2
May 25, 2018
The film is bland, soulless and full of cringeworthy facepalm moments. Its a total disappointment, I think Disney has been lowering expectations so much in the hope that better than a disaster is seen as a good film. Its not. Its a movie no-one asked for and the results are predictable, safe, dull and full of unnecessary toxic political correctness. This film is a shameful cash grab, it belongs in the trash compactor.

May 8, 2018
This has to be the most over-rated, over-hyped film I've ever seen. The story is flimsy, deeply unoriginal and you can tell what is going to happen every step of the way. The plot is so formulaic and obvious its ridiculous. The acting is average and the action sequences were nothing new. The setting is nice but everything else about the movie is average. Definitely doesn't live up to the hype.

I tried to like it, but it just wasn't enjoyable for me. I usually love Sci-Fi films, including B movie lower budget films, but its just so utterly dumb. Pea-shooter guns vs enormous aliens, facepalm alien fistfights, corny dialogue, people saying 'don't look at the light' while looking at and running towards the light. Ultimately a waste of a couple of hours.

Blade Runner 204910
Dec 29, 2017
This was by far my favourite film of the year. It has a clear and well executed vision, sumptuous visuals, an intriguing plot, which is a strong natural sequel to the original film, not some un-necessary "reboot" or unconnected story. The acting is great and the ending really well done. Some said the movie was too long, but I didn't think so.
