Phoenix Point4

The fact that Snapshot games kept referring to Firaxis' last two Xcom games ended up hurting it. Truth is I was bored ten minutes in, 3 hours later? It hadn't changed. You start out with two soldiers, rescue a third one (not as much as a hello), afterwards you're told to do some repairs. Then suddenly you have 3 more soldiers the next mission (no introductions, you didn't recruit them, you're just left with a "Huh... where did these guys come from?" Story/narrative feels completely absent (save the cutscenes giving you a vague introduction). As it's quite impossible to not compare it to Firaxis' games? I've got to say... I -miss- Bradford, Chen, Vahlen, Lily (Xc2). Having characters (that aren't faceless/without personality) did wonders for that game. Truth is? In Phoenix Point I don't feel I -care- for the soldiers under my command, nor any other people you come across. Phoenix Point to me, is just a bunch of numbers, menus and stats. I'm a backer (who -really-really-really- hoped the game would be up to expectations. At the very least not be disappointing. As reviews are always linked to what you feel about a game (are you having fun or not), I'm having trouble recommending it. As for me, personally? I'm not enjoying it (6 hours in). I -do- hope, and I really mean that, that Phoenix Point will keep evolving, and perhaps over time it'll win me over

DmC: Devil May Cry Definitive Edition1

Another lazy HD remake of a mediocre last gen game. I'd say this game is for fans of the last one only, in that it feels (and doesn't deny it) like a linear hack'n slash 3rd person adventure / platform game. Reviews are subjective to the reviewers taste, and truth is, this isn't my favourite genre, nor is it a PS4 (or XBO for that matter) game worth spending money on. Perhaps worth picking up if it's free over PS+ , NT was clever to release it now before the PS4's game Library grows further, this Will soon be forgotten. As for the game itself? It's pretty, it's fluid, yet it serves a one track story that you in no way can influence, you're merely a "TV-Viewer (without the reality TV vote button)". These days that's a big flaw in my part after playing tons of amazing RPGs, branching story-lines is luckily something we see in more and more games. DMC's not a game that manages to keep one interested for more than one playthrough at most. Avoid

Sid Meier's Starships9

I would actually recommend it ,on the account of me having fun playing it. These days my patience for learning new and complex games are (perhaps unfortunately?) at an all time low. Starships was a surprise, in that it was -really- easy to get into. You don't have to read a manual 10 times the bible just to undock your ship, or learn how the economic's work. Sid Meier's Starships pretty much puts you right in the middle of things, yet giving you some help along the way. There's only a few tech-trees if you compare it to the Civilization games, and as such things do feel quite a bit simplified. The good thing about this is that it makes the game easy to get into, and still as you learn by playing, you soon find that strategy and thinking helps a lot. I would love for Firaxis to add to this game, it's practically begging for a good Hot-seat mode (Like the Old Master of Orion games (MOO 1+2) more diplomacy options ,more ship / customization options, and actually, a little more of everything. It's the first space strategy game I've tried in the last 10 years I haven't needed to will myself into playing, but now that I like it? I want more, lots more. There positives are : Easy to get into Smooth gameplay Interesting setting / technologies The many different kinds of missions , in addition to thrilling space battles A sheer joy to play (when you're winning difficult fights) The negatives (for me) NO FULLSCREEN?!!! ...... That's uber-annoying, what are Firaxis thinking? Alt+F4 to quit!?? Where's the QUIT TO WINDOWS (or DOS) button???? No multiplayer? ..**** why???? It's a turned based game that practically begs for a Hot-seat mode GUI , this -really-really-really- needs work ......I thought they knew how to do this after Civ and X-com Lack of gameplay depth, options like setting up diplomatic treaties, alliances ++ Though the game can quickly pull you in, it soon leaves you wanting more I certainly hope the game gets better With patches / fixes and addons
