The movie is incredible in parts and tedious in others. Fast-forward through anything with Chris Hemsworth in the first 35 minutes. He just breaks you out of the movie because it is so obvious he is playing some role, not good. This is a wonderful movie, he is just miscast. I thought Anya Taylor-Joy would be the distraction, but she disappears into the role. There is a great movie in here; it just needs to be re-edited.

Watch the first half, excellent; be prepared to fast forward in the 2nd half. I don't know what the director was thinking, and he is a good director, but definitely off his game.

The opening and first half are great. The second half of the movie becomes a parody of itself. I found myself saying to myself, this is absurd... I no longer cared about what happened to these people because the action became ridiculous. Clearly, they just couldn't let go of some of the scenes because they cost so much to shoot. It just goes on and on and on with the same action. See on DVR or some other means where you can control the chase and fight scenes so you can fast forward. Do I want to see the first half again, absolutely; the second half, no. I have to remember this when part two comes out.

I had to come back and lower my evaluation. I keep thinking, and it just got worse with time. Great premise... but so many plot holes so they have excuses for the action. Yes, the other reviews were correct, cliche after cliche. The screenplay is the worst, and the editing and cinematography are great. Without superheroes in their story, to cover the plot holes, it just falls apart. If you decide to see it, make sure you have the ability to fast forward through the boring parts (most of the fight scenes where they just hit each other forever). The normal wooden acting from Gosling, but since most everyone are one-dimensional characters it does not really matter. Oh, and in case you care, there are no character arcs for any of the characters, just action.

I love Adam McKay's work. However, the casting severely handicapped this movie. We don't see characters, we see well-known serious actors trying to be comedic. It came off as amateurish. Jennifer Lawrence or Merle Steep... who is more deserving of a Razzie? The role for Ariana Grande fit her better. I'm so glad it was streaming. That way you can appreciate Adam McKay's script and fast forward through the excruciating acting.

Sorry I had to come back and change my review. I love, love, love James Bond movies but this is just bad. James Bonds movies have a built-in set of rules, we accept those rules which permits us to suspend our disbelief so we enjoy the ride. This movie broke that covenant between audience and producer. I left the movie with a sick feeling in my stomach. In trying to be different, this movie became an art film. If you can tolerate the versions with George Lazenby or Timothy Dalton (which I think are unwatchable) you will be OK with this one. This is not Daniel Craig's fault it is Barbara Broccoli's fault. I went to the movie theater to see this movie... don't do that. Wait until you can see it for free and fast forward. They had two endings, they chose the worst possible one. I will not be seeing the next James Bond in the movie theatre. I have learned my lesson.

It is one of the director's more challenging films to follow but worth the effort. I loved the concept and how he tried to communicate it. It kept me watching but... and it is a big but. You must turn on Closed Captioning to understand the constant explanations throughout the movie. The actors "mumble" (for dramatic effect). You must turn on CC right from the beginning or you will become lost very quickly. The lighting decisions do not work (for dramatic effect). Often I could not see the protagonist's expressions (nor read his lips) as he was moving or in the shadows. An extremely flawed movie that might be really good the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th time watching but not the 1st time. This movie was made specifically for the movie theatre where you can focus. Your computer or at home on the TV, not so much.

For Amy Adams to play this role took a lot of courage because it is not a likable character. Yes, it is imperfect, the screen adaptation from the book is not very good but the story will resonate.

It is the movie "Heaven Can Wait" (1943 and 1978). Not sure why the people scenes are animated. The "uncanny valley" problem is huge, it pulls you out of the movie, over and over again. It really is a live-action & animated movie. It isn't "The Incredibles" where the character's powers and stylization make sense. They tried to make it for all audiences and in the end, it isn't made for anyone. It is not for little kids because the theme is adult philosophical ideas and it is not for adults because the pacing and visuals are for kids. I've thought about this movie a lot. I've loved Scorsese movies for decades. But this is not good. Initially, I would rate it a 5 but on reflection, this was a complete waste of my time. I can not figure out why people are raving about it. DeNiro is terrible. He does an impersonation of himself as a young man but he is moving like old man. I can't believe people are really watching the whole thing, they must be fast-forwarding through parts of it and not telling anyone. I have that same feeling about this movie that I had after watching any of the Star Wars 1,2,3 that Lucas went back and made. Brad Pitt holds this movie together but it is hard to say this is a movie, it is really a novel brought to the screen. Very little action. Mostly Brad Pitt narrating his thoughts as he moves from point A to point B to point C... Our thoughts are the strength of a novel but not a movie. The reviews are accurate; it is a retread of everything before and then we put in lots more fight scenes to give it a sense of stakes. Interestingly, the current Jennifer Lawrence curse continues, if she is in the movie, it will tank. This movie is about getting the last dollar out of the franchise. Then again Captain Marvel was far worse than this and made tons of money. My hat is off to the marketing professionals at Disney, they made the right choice not to waste money on this one.

It hits the emotional beats you want going in. It is imperfect (dialogue problems, acting problems, cliches that hit you over the head) but it does move you emotionally in the way you want it to. I felt good watching but afterward, you start to feel a bit manipulated because it was left incomplete (sequel needed to complete the story. This doesn't ruin the ending but on reflection, you are left knowing you paid for a full movie but got shortchanged. It suffers from the same problem as "John Carter", they fell in love with the original story. They spent so much time on making the eyes perfect and the machinery glittery but the lighting didn't feel real. Sort of like they hired so many modelers they couldn't afford to hire enough lighters to get it right. See this is the problem when I start thinking more about it, I could see why there are low reviews. However, if you are under 25 you won't be bothered by any of this; it is a great ride and if you are a girl in high school you will love it!!

It feels a bit transplanted, it wants to be a Cohen Brothers movie but lacks the emotional thread that makes their movies work. There are some serious casting problems. At times it felt like many of there were "acting". It is entertaining. I read the reviews and was a bit hesitant to go but then noticed how the reviews took a nosedive after his interview problems. Insulting, insulting, insulting... If you saw the 1960s version this movie is beyond bad it is insulting. If you see this movie you will lose 2 hours of you life you will want to get back unless you are a 15 year old boy. They gutted it of what made the original work. They even gutted the music. There was nothing at stake, some of the townspeople left. There was no existential crisis for the characters. It wasn't like they were poor farmers and if they left they would starve, or that the banditos had to come back because they were starving. If you have to see it please miss the first 5 minutes with it's big speech that made no sense because the point was ignored. The politically correct 7 ignored everything about the time period you could have used to increase the conflict. Which then proceeded to kill more people that violates everything about the progressive point of view it tries to hammer home in the beginning. The director knew what he was doing, the actors knew what they were doing it is the fault of the producers that couldn't protect this movie from the studio that must be employing 25 year olds that didn't go to film school. I can't even recommend seeing this on cable. I love the manificent Seven premise, I will see all versions (animation, Japanese, superhero etc.) but this is not that movie. The studio executives are just going to release more of this junk. Even Jennifer Lawrence says she doesn't see herself as that good as an actress (Graham Norton). You have to do more than look pensive over and over again. Of course when you spend more time during the promotional tour trashing political candidates than promoting the movie the actors must not think much of it.
