If the action and espionage elements were executed at the same level as the dramatic and comedic exchanges and the observations about the types of people drawn to this life, Ava might've been a cult classic.

As the plot grows increasingly convoluted and borderline laughable, Chastain is steady as she goes, playing a character who’s worthy of a film franchise in a movie nowhere near deserving a sequel. Odds are we’ll never see Ava again, and that’s a shame because, with a better script and more inspired direction, she could have been a contender.

I really liked the proposal of the film, besides showing a lot of action it still develops the character well, Ava really "kick asses"

Always love Jessica! Good pace, and kept you involved. It was great to see Gina Davis in this as well.

A movie with more potential directions than its globe-trotting-assassin heroine has wigs, “Ava” offers moments that suggest it might have succeeded as an action thriller, a dysfunctional family drama, or a character study. Since it commits fully to none of these, the results are the sort of bland bang-bang-pow that keep Nicolas Cage and Bruce Willis afloat in between movies that critics actually like, or even see.

There’s a stranger, spikier, more unnerving film to be pulled from the sleek genre carapace of Ava, a film less interested in what makes a contract killer tick than in the superhuman Swiss-watch regularity of her ticking in the first place.

Chastain is utterly convincing in another tough-as-nails role. If audiences stick with the movie, it's largely thanks to her movie-star charisma, which almost compensates for the increasingly ridiculous plot. Malkovich and Farrell seem to understand they are A-list talent in B-movie roles, and relish the opportunity.

Ava isn’t only banal, but also, in its half-hearted stabs at novel ideas, seemingly content with its banality.

What’s onscreen — choppy, lifeless, predictable action scenes jutting up against unbaked, middle-school-theater-production-level family drama — is quite damning in its own right.

I actually liked it. Action was good and the plot was good. Would love to see a part 2. I get surprised at what gets good reviews and what doesn't. Some movies that are just horrible get good reviews and good movies get bad reviews. People always saying there an hidden messages. But if the movie can't explain it within the movie then to me it ****. I don't want to say what the f did I just watch & have to look up the meaning on the internet. This one was clear. For a Netflix movie it's better than others.

Devoid of asinine propaganda politics and has an ok storyline, but Ava (Chastain) is a broken character which may be somebody with dissociation, or a sociopath. She is sloppy and not that good at her job, yet the opening credits seem to make the claim that she's had over 40 kills. The ending could have been solved in the hotel as well, and was needlessly drawn out for a scene in the public. People who are sloppy probably don't make it in the assassination buisness.

Saw this after avoiding it due to reviews. It was better than expected. Definitely better than WW84 and better paced. Still had some slow parts and unusual decisions but is is basically an amateur, female John Wick

Not a believable character. Main character cant even hold a gun correctly. Unrealistic, unauthentic.
