Assassin's Creed III

The sad truth is that one of the most hyped games of 2012 just wasn't very good by any stretch of the imagination. Assassin's Creed III is by the far the worst entry in the series to date and its greatest achievement include making the American Revolution boring, creating a boring protagonist, having one of the worst endings of 2012, and owning some hilarious bugs. I guess I will say the positive things first. Maybe I should say thing. The graphics are really great and the game actually looks beautiful. At least when you aren't slipping into holes in the geometry or clipping through walls that is. You play as Connor, or his true name Noonecares. I didn't much care for Ezio, but Connor has got to be one of the dullest personalities I have found in recent games. Despite having more character development than Ezio, he still falls short when compared to Ezio. The rest of the story somehow manages to be boring too. Many of the exciting moments take place in cutscenes and then you just walk from one cutscene to another. Sounds fun? You're right it doesn't. There's also a 6 hour tutorial. Yep! You don't even play as Connor then either! I know right?! Look just wait for this to drop to 20 dollars. If you must play you may find some enjoyment, but don't expect a godsend. A fantastic game this is not.

It's no secret that I found very little to be loved with the first Darksiders but after seeing all the hype surrounding the sequel I found myself getting excited about it more and more as time wore on. Unfortunately, I found myself to be pretty disappointed. The graphics are mediocre, the setting is very uninteresting, and the enemy design is a combination of both. Throughout the game you will fight the same enemies over and over again and the only enemies that are any different are the complete pushovers of bosses. The bosses are ridiculously easy and very uninspired with one being almost an exact rehash of a boss from the first game. The world is pretty big, but there is absolutely nothing to do in it. Not to mention hardly any enemies. The graphics are just bleh all over and is barely an improvement over the first one. You will consistently see the pixels on everything without even having to look that hard. You play as Death, the brother of War, who is trying to absolve War of his sins. Besides that i couldn't tell you anything else about the story which seemed nonsensical at best. None of the characters are very intriguing and most have the most annoying voices you could ever imagine. Eventually I just started skipping the cut scenes to get to the only saving grace of this game which is the gameplay. Darksiders 2 plays like any other hack and slash games, but has a Borderlands like loot system. This quickly becomes addicting especially once you start growing as a character and finding unique possessed weapons. These weapons devour other weapons and become a force to be reckoned with. Every level you gain a skill point that you can put towards abilities. The necromancer tree seemed cool at first but halfway through I started putting stuff into the Harbinger tree and just used teleport slash non stop. Ultimately, Darksiders II is better than its predecessor but tends to get incredibly dull with only a little bit of fun to be had.

You know what is a bad game? Medal of Honor: Warfighter. You want to know why it's a bad game? Of course you do! So to satisfy your desire I have made a list of the reasons this game **** and why your money is better spent elsewhere. However, it is just a list and n explanations because frankly this game isn't even worth this amount of time. If you have any questions feel free to email me at ****. Here we go! Terrible hit detection, screen tearing, constant clipping, poorly implemented gameplay features such as the fireteam system, tedious gunplay, awful campaign, terrible AI in said campaign, failing to have even a modicum of innovation, ridiculous bugs, and last and most certainly not least taking gamers for morons and expecting us to be okay with this. Danger Close, shut your doors and bury this series under the ground.

Need for Speed: Most Wanted

Do yourself a favor and buy Need for Speed: Most Wanted right now. Criterion's last reboot of the popular Hot Pursuit series left many fans wanting, including myself. This new entry also by Criterion lends its hand to another famous entry from like 7 years ago. This is the best entry in the Need for Speed series in a very long time and is one of the best arcade racers ever made. Just like Hot Pursuit there is no story and the only goal you have is to reach the top of the Most Wanted list. How do you do that? Well, it's entirely up to you. There is often so much to do that it is mind boggling. You move up the Most Wanted list by earning speed points which you get by drifting, driving in oncoming traffic, near misses, air time, completing races, and of course pursuits. The only one of these you can't do free roam is the race and if you don't want to tackle races you don't necessarily have to. It is strongly encouraged though and every race can give you upgrades to your cars. Did I mention how many cars there are? because there are over 100 and once you find them in the world they are unlocked and you can switch at any time. Each car has their own set of challenges to complete. The entire game encourages competition with your friends via leaderboards too. Who has the fastest time on a race? on a speed camera? who has the highest jump for a billboard? You're job is to knock your friends off that list and conquer the leaderboard yourself. The new iteration of Most Wanted should be a most wanted title and is some of the most fun I've had with an arcade racer. Period.

Darksiders

Darksiders follows the path of one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse. War, who has been falsely accused of tipping the balance of heaven and hell, must clear his name and kill those responsible for this misunderstanding of epic proportions. If that doesn't interest you then the rest of the story probably won't either. Personally, I thought the story was actually pretty interesting and had some pretty interesting. It may not have been the most original story, but it was captivating mainly because of solid voice acting and some interesting dialogue. Unfortunately, that's the only saving grace of this game and it is lucky that it doesn't get buried under the mediocrity that floods the rest of the game. This game borrows aspects from more successful games such as Devil May Cry, The Legend of Zelda, and God of War. The only problem is that everything Darksiders borrows from those games it does much, much worse. Take the incredibly sluggish combat. You start out with one weapon and gradually build up your arsenal, but none of the weapons seem very distinct and are very predictable. You can rack up combos while killing enemies, but there is no incentive for doing so. You can unlock more powers using the game's currency, but really they all boil down to the same thing and they take absolutely no skill to pull off. You also have access to special abilities that War can use that consume wrath. Every time I got one of these I found myself just saying "meh" and going back to regular combat. Then there are the incredibly uninspired dungeons. They are so long and incredibly boring that I found myself begging for the boss so I could just get on with the game. Then when I did reach the boss I found myself sighing, because they were the biggest pushovers and the methods to defeat them were so blatantly obvious that I had to laugh. Unfortunately, this game doesn't live up to the games it borrows from and struggles to rise above the mediocre mess that it ultimately becomes.

Resident Evil 6

I would like to state something that I feel should be obvious. Resident Evil 6 is a good game. No matter what your bias consists of you should be at least be able to admit that it is a good game. You don't necessarily have to admit that it's great, but just good or mediocre. I on the other hand think 6 is a fantastic game and can't help but wonder why there are so many negative reviews and I assume it's from fans of the first three entries. Resident Evil consists of 4 campaigns and all intertwine at certain points. My favorite campaigns was Leon's because I felt it was the one that nodded more towards the older Resident Evil games which I grew up on. His campaign was filled with scares and on professional difficulty I had to carefully manage my health and ammunition. The other campaigns are good too, but lean a lot more towards action set piece moments than scares. The one thing that all campaigns succeed at is the environment. The environment in every campaign is absolutely gorgeous and all the settings are incredibly detailed and do a good job of bringing you into the game. Helping this are the absolutely astonishing graphics. This is one of the prettiest games I have seen since Uncharted 3. The graphics are that good. However, I did run into some muddy textures while it was loading. This hardly took me out of the experience. One thing I also loved about this entry was the story. I found myself hooked until the amazing conclusion. Really I only have two complaints. My first is the excessive use of quick time events. This didn't really bother me too much, but it did get frustrating after a while. The second is as much as I loved the story, every campaign besides Leon's had some pretty noticeable pacing issues. Now the big question is "Is RE6 the best Resident Evil?" Well, my friends the answer is a resounding no, because that honor still belongs to 4, but this is better than the slightly disappointing RE5 and is one of the better entries in the series to date. As for the negative reviews my theory is that this series has evolved and you refuse to budge in your narrow area of entertainment and have been left behind in the dust.

Max Payne 3 destroys the first two and honestly may actually be one of the best video games I've played in quite a while. Max Payne 3 plays much like the past ones. You run around through the environment and shoot enemies while diving in slow-motion or engaging in bullet time just by standing. The first thing I feel I need to address is the game's presentation. This is a big game and Max and Rockstar are both aware of that. It has an absolutely thrilling story that is tightly woven around each character. The characters are all really likeable even if a lot of them are traitors. These aren't just one dimensional bad guys that shoot at you for no reason. There is a reason you just have to wait a while and find out. My favorite character was Da Silva. He's a member of the Sao Paulo police force who Max ends up working with towards the end of the game. He's also brilliantly voiced, but then again so is everybody in this game. The whole scheme of things keeps getting bigger until the unbelievable finale. I also have no doubts that this is one of the best looking games of this generation so far. The attention to detail is amazing. Every single thing has been given complete attention to give you one of the most immersive linear game worlds you've ever been in. There is a multiplayer component and though I do enjoy it I feel that the controls for it are really clunky. It's a lot of fun anyways though. Really I only have two complaints with this game and they are kind of connected. If you play for long enough you'll notice that the game is relentlessly difficult on harder difficulties. The other complaint is the horrendous checkpoint system. I once had to shoot my way out of a room walk towards a door where five other enemies were kill them, go into another room where 3 more enemies were, then walk into a huge area with another 5 enemies, and then walk into a bar that was being held by 5 more enemies and then I finally hit a checkpoint. Not to mention there were no painkillers in between there besides the ones you end up spawning with after you die so much. Other than those minor flaws and the somewhat clunky multiplayer it is a fantastic game.

First, I would like to say that i usually loathe sports game of any kind but SSX has made have a change of heart. SSX is a total blast and is totally worth the $60 price tag. Obviously, there is a campaign to play through. It's fairly short but is a lot of fun to play through. With nine deadly descents that get harder each time the game will have your attention for about 6-8 **** game is also backed up with an awesome soundtrack. Expect to hear plenty of dubstep and hip hop. Every song seems tailored to that track. After you have beaten the campaign you haven't even put a dent in the amount of content SSX offers though. There is also an Explore mdoe. Explore let's you go to any drop and try to make the fastest time, the best score, or the longest distance travelled. After you finish your ghost is put on that track for other people to compete against. The most intriguing aspect though are the Global Events. Global Events are the game's version of multiplayer. Through leaderboards you race on drops with restrictiions for a ridiculous amount of credits. Each event has restrictions and a time limit. One I competed on still had five days left to compete against each other for the highest trick score. Last time I checked I was offered 30,000 credits which isn't very good. The thing that's really neat though, but also a pain is the fact that if someone beats your score your prize money will drop until you are eventually kicked off of the leaderboard. This adds an incredibly tense sense of competition when competing online. This is an absolute buy for anybody looking for the next big ports game that isn't released every year. Welcome home SSX, this is where you belong.

I am a huge Resident Evil fan and like many others was surprised at the negative reviews for this game. Now that I have played the game I can say that the critics were wrong. The game isn't just bad it's absolutely dreadful. Firstly, the campaign was one of the worst I have ever played due to braindead AI, bland atmosphere, and a terrible "story". One of my biggest complaints is that sometimes enemies will take an entire clip to go down but another time it may only take a bullet. The multiplayer feels like a beta for an unfinished product that doesn't exist. Sure there are unlockables but the complete abscence of any customization options keep you wanting more to compensate for the already bland multiplayer experience. This isn't even worthy of the Resident Evil title because the scariest thing about this game is the fact that it exists.

Saints Row The Third is a solid game, but often feels too familiar for its own good. Though the game is a blast to play it is simply reitirating the fun we had the previous Saints Row titles. The game follows a gangster protagonist that is working on getting the saints back up to their previous level of power they had before, but in a different setting known as Steelport. Sound familiar? It should because this was the plot for Saints Row 2 more or less. The story missions are a lot of fun and make you feel awesome. There are plenty of setpiece moments that add to the fun even more. On top of this is an absolutely amazing soundtrack. The soundtrack is the perfect backdrop for some of these missions. One of my favorite moments was parachuting into a penthouse while Kanye West's "Power" was playing. The gameplay is still what we've come to love, but there really aren't that many new activities to get lost in. Sure these activities are still a lot of fun, but haven't we done all of this before? A new feature that I enjoyed a lot was the use of an upgrade menu. Each time you gain a respect level you unlock new abilities such as gang customization, increased health, and dual wielding weapons. You can get these upgrades, but only if you have enough cash. The best part is you don't need to do the story missions to unlock all of these because you can earn respect in so many other ways. Graphically Saints Row: The Third hasn't gone that much further than its predecessor. The graphics are fine, but there were frequent occurences of pop in and the draw distance could be a lot better. There were also quite a few technical issues I had with the game. My game would constantly freeze every time I tried to take a picture with the game's camera when I saw something hilarious. I also encountered quite a few poles that a car could easily knock over and I mean the ones that i had knocked over in the last five seconds, but this pole decided to spin my car into the air and land me in the water. These were just a few of the issues I ran into, but I still had a blast while playing the game and laughed quite a bit at the saints hilarious antics. If you're looking for a new SSaints Row game that deserves the label new you may want to wait for a while, but if you want to have just as much fun as you did in 2 then this will do just fine.

Infamous is a truly great game that really makes you feel like a hero or villain with it's fun and intriguing gameplay. Yes you can be a hero or a villain which is largely decided through karma moments. These are fun but most of them are choices like throw acid in your mom's face while she's in a coma or bring her flowers. Choices like these rarely leave a room for any grey area but I still enjoyed it. You also get access to different powers depending on your karma level. The powers are always fun and are easy to **** story is fun as well but largely relies on cliches until the last shocking twist (pun intended) that sets it up for the inevitable sequel. My only other complaint is the clunky platforming. Cole seems to enjoy missing ledges and falling 50 feet. The platforming in this game couldn't be much worse. The game is still a lot o fun and it's hard not to recommend for any PS3 owner.

First, I would like to say that Prototype 2 is leagues better than its predecessor. However, that doesn't mean it lacks any issues. Storytelling is still a problem in the sequel and the game tends to take itself too seriously. Heller is just another one dimensional character that uses an unnecessary amount of swear words and is angry all the time. The voice acting has improved but not my much. That doesn't stop it from being a great time though. Enemies no longer gang up on you in ridiculous numbers which makes it less frustrating. Your powers are also mapped to two face buttons eliminating the need for a weapon wheel. The graphics have improved but the world still feels lacking. If you're looking for a game with a great story look elsewhere, but if you want a great time with loads to do check out Prototype 2.

This is the best game I have played from 2012 so far. Why is that? It's because of the ridiculously fun multiplayer. The single player is hardly any fun past the first few missions and throws an uninteresting story in to disguise i th campaign as being more than a tutorial. First, the innovative build and battle mechanic injects a healthy dose of RTS into the experience. It's always fun to see the massive fortresses people have built. Then when you get a tank you can blow it to **** controls feel flawless and the hawks handle like a dream. Getting a hawk doesn't make you overpowered as there are tons of ways your enemy can destroy you.Overall, the game is packaged with a boring single player but an absolutely enthralling multiplayer that makes this title a must have for any PS3 owner with an internet connection.

This game had the potential of being so much more than its final product, but sadly ends up being a flawed mixed bag before anything else. The story follows Alex Mercer who has been infected with a virus that gives you insane powers. Though these powers are a lot of fun accessing them couldn't be more cumbersome due to the clumsy weapon wheel that always takes you out of the action. A lot of times there is simply too much action. Be prepared for numerous tanks shooting at you at oce and dozens of cheap deaths. There are often too many enemies on screen at once and sometimes it feels like you aren't making any progress. The story is almost as flawed as the gameplay. It's filled with poorly developed characters, unnecessary twists and cutscenes, and some abysmal voice acting. All this being said there is some fun to be had here. The combat feels fluid and responsive. Besides the weapon wheel the combat is great. Otherwise, Prototype is a game that is incredibly mediocre and ripe with flaws.

First, I would like to say that I unfortunately was not able to complete Mass Effect.I was about to decide to save or abandon the council when my game crashed and my save corrupted. I have never been more furious, but I can't help but realize that what I had almost beaten had been one of favorite gaming experiences. This game isn't perfect by any means. For example, why Bioware decided to go with an infinite ammo mechnic is beyond me and the first few hours are incredibly stagnant for a game that eventually ends up being a phenomenal experience. There is easily 50+ hours worth of entertainment here but it's buried under mediocre controls and a weapon system that leaves something to be desired. Where Mass Effect truly shines is it's story. The player choice implemented invery action is a wonderful change of pace that sets Mass Effect apart from every other 3rd person shooter. After the first few hours the story picks up and goes to places that no man has gone before. In summary, Mass Effect is a wonderful game buried under a thin layer of mediocrity in the gameplay department. That doesn't stop Mass Effect from doing what it aims to do in the first place:deliver a masterful story that is diven by genuine emotion and player choice. Nathan out.

Rayman Origins is the best entry in the series by a long shot. I've been a fan since my younger days and played Rayman and Rayman 2 religously. I'm glad to be able to say that I can do that once again. Rayman Origins is everything most modern platformers are not. It's creative, fun, and very replayable. If I had to choose only one thing to praise about this game it would be the art direction hands down. The only game that rivals this one in aesthetic appeal is the Bioshock series. Every where you look there are vibrant colors and shapes coming to life right before your eyes. The gameplay is top-notch as well. The controls are very responsive and not once did I ever feel that I had died a cheap death. The game is filled with the series trademark humor and will often have you laughjing out loud at some of the hilarious things that go on. I'm 20 years old and I can't believe how much I laughed while playing this game. If you are getting a Playstation Vita this a must have unless you already own it for console. Team Bondi deserves recognition for taking a gigantic risk with this title (not rockstar like people believe). They succeeded mostly. I just can't help but feel that the amazing parts of this game are overshadowed by the strong and noticeable flaws. The large part of the game is very repetitive. Although, you could say this strongly represents cop work. After I got to vice I found myself groaning at the presentation of more cases. Let's get one thing straight. The graphics are phenomenal. Everything has detail and is crisp, bold, and well real. I should also point out that I am a huge fan of noir. I feel that this is a bold game, but the game overstays its welcome with repetition over a ridiculous length. It reminds me of RE4. I guess a solid 15 hours is short nowadays and honestly I think that's becoming a promblem in the game industry. I am absolutely sick of games that are 50+ hours when they could have wrapped up the story in about 10. The game is remniscient of KHI and includes many of the characters that made me love that one in the first place. The graphics are excellent for a DS title. The only complaint I have is the pesky camera. The camera can get in the way a lot, but it isn't anything game breaking. Overall I think this is a really good game actually better than I expected. Square Enix also was nice enough make the repetitive levels different by adding different gameplay methods and enemies throughout. In the second town the game goes from an RPG to a side scrolling adventure platformer for the boss fight. This is a winner if you ask me.

I give this game an 8 out of 10. Halo Reach isn't very different single player wise than its predecessors. You just point and shoot your way through the campaign, but honestly it's fun. There are a lot of different weapons and some old ones taken out which will undoubtedly piss some hardcore fans off, but really they had to do that. If they didn't it would have been the same exact game as the others at the core. Halo: Reach's online is a lot different than 3s. The Reach online is fun don,t get me wrong but the level up system is ubelievably stupid. You rank up by credits and it doesn't matter if you win or lose. If you get in 8th place in every match you will still become the highest rank it will just take you longer. 3 you actually had to win matches to rank up. I've played all Halo's but i hated the first two. If you are a die hard Halo fan you probably won't like the changes they made. but If you're just looking to shoot around and have some fun than it will deliver.

Don't worry about any jump scares because there wont be because youre told ahead of time exactly what happens. There is very little combat and what combat there is, is meant to be avoided. You will spend a good majority of the DLC just shining your flashlight on words. That's the opposite of fun. It drags on too. Trust me by the end of the dlc you'll be so bored you will either quit or be begging for the end which just seems to never come.
