Alien: Earth10
Aug 21, 2025
Currently three episodes in, and I've thoroughly enjoyed Alien: Earth. The set design, costuming, acting, world building etc. are all phenomenal. The showrunners have succeeded at capturing the "vibe" of the Alien universe while providing an exciting, fresh adventure that features our favorite xenomorph.

Overcompensating: Season 110
May 18, 2025
Really enjoyed this show, probably because I could relate to a lot of the experiences that the main character(s) go through during their first year in college (uncannily so, in fact).

Pretty good sci-fi show, if you aren't worried too much about emulating the source material.

Chucky10
Nov 3, 2021
This show is way better than I would have expected, considering not all of the movies in the Chucky franchise have been great. I'd even go as far as to say that Chucky the show is actually pretty good! Lots of people are leaving negative reviews due to their homophobia and hate towards the lgbtq community, but the lgbtq aspects of the show aren't even central to the plot. Certainly wouldn't say that Chucky is "pandering" to any group as several of the negative reviews suggest.

Ghosts (2021): Season 11
Oct 9, 2021
This show is an abomination. Yet another doomed American remake of a British show that didn’t need to be made. I should say that I loved Rose McIver in iZombie, but if the showrunners thought they were capturing what made the original Ghosts special they have failed spectacularly. Please just watch the original BBC Ghosts, there are already three seasons and it’s still airing.

Girls5eva10
May 20, 2021
This show was fantastic! It has a compelling premise, plenty of laughs, and a hint of 30 rock (even a Fey cameo). The music was often goofy, but at times somewhat plausible which is surprising given Girls5eva is a fictional group. Renée Elise Goldsberry's performance was especially good. She has said in interviews that she thinks there's great chemistry among the cast, and I definitely agree. Looking forward to season 2!

The Nevers7
May 4, 2021
This is my second review, as the first one has mysteriously disappeared... I really wanted to like this show, and I'm going to continue to watch it while holding on to hope that it will improve at some point. The premise of The Nevers is intriguing, the set design/ costumes etc are good. But something went terribly wrong with the rest of the show's production. Many scenes are just... clumsy? I'm not sure how else to describe it. I'm not sure if it's a case of bad directing, bad writing, or bad acting. But I'm leaning towards the first two. There's worse TV on HBO probably, but The Nevers is just not good. Commenting again to update after the first six episodes. The midseason finale may be enough to redeem this show, changing from a 6 to a hopeful 7. Hopefully the second half will continue to improve!

Cruel Summer6
May 4, 2021
When I first decided to check out Cruel Summer, my expectations were not high. I expected the typical CW style teen drama, but instead found a adeptly told mystery/thriller with fantastic performances all around, and equally fantastic editing. After the first four episodes, I still find myself on the edge of my seat in anticipation as the story continues to unravel and reveal unexpected turns. Highly recommended, and I hope this show receives the attention and accolades that it deserves.

American Gods10
Apr 12, 2021
Having just seen Seasons 1-3 of American Gods, I'm heartbroken to learn that the show has been cancelled. Unlike some of the negative reviewers, I did not find this show confusing or believe that it suffered from a lack of explanation (the main character's story arc is literally him being thrown into a world he doesn't fully understand, hence the air of mystery). If this show had been on traditional broadcast television, I'd understand the cancellation. The plot moves somewhat slowly compared to other shows, because it takes time to contextualize the characters that Shadow meets, and the world he now finds himself in. And the show does that beautifully. Of course, this is coming from the perspective of someone who was able to watch each season consecutively, making the story and plot progression seem more cohesive than it would have been if there'd been a year or more wait time between seasons. From what I understand, the cancellation was mainly due to issues with the production company and Starz. Lack of funds, poor leadership, and a new showrunner each season. It's a shame because American Gods is one of the most interesting shows that I've seen in a long time. I'm really hoping that Amazon or another streaming service picks this show up now that Starz has abandoned it, because there is still so much story to be told.

Snowpiercer: Season 210
Feb 3, 2021
This show keeps getting better! I was curious as to how the narrative in season two would progress after the ending of the first, but I've been pleasantly surprised so far. I find it comical that the Salon critic Melanie McFarland gave season two a 40 because "it's moving further into downer territory"... she does realize that Snowpiercer is a dystopian sci-fi story, not Frozen, right?

The Walking Dead: World Beyond6
Oct 6, 2020
After only one episode, I can't say for sure if this series will be good or if it'll flop. I'm cautiously optimistic. I don't totally disagree that aspects of this story (so far) have been told before in TWD/ Fear the Walking Dead, but it also seems like this show may provide some answers about the mysterious other people that have been briefly shown in the other two shows—which is very exciting. It also seems likely that this show will intersect with the others at some point as well. Looking forward to more!

Brave New World: Season 17
Jul 18, 2020
This show is not an exact translation of Aldous Huxley's book to television. Brave New World the show is more of a loose modern sci-fi adaptation of the source material. Overall pretty good, set design and fx are great. Definitely looking forward to season 2, provided it gets renewed.

Snowpiercer: Season 17
May 30, 2020
Having just watched the original Snowpiercer again, then watching the Pilot episode of the TV series, I'm hopeful for what Snowpiercer 2020 will have to offer in the coming season. I really liked the movie, however I believe that there's certainly room for improvement and further exposition of various aspects of the Snowpiercer **** the movie the main character has little background development, aside from the monologue about his boarding of the train and the events that ensued. What were his motivations, aside from guilt and perhaps atonement? In the show, the first episode alone gives Andre a more solid character development as defacto leader of the resistance with a former love interest and career. In the movie, discussions of balance are had in a mostly pseudo-religious tone, while in the show balance is stressed as a scientific necessity. Andre is given an insider perspective of how the train works, as opposed to an outsider perspective that's given in the movie. Overall, the train in Snowpiercer 2020 seems more futuristic and bright. Not quite as dark/dingy as the movie train, though I think the train car design in the movie was more realistic in terms of how large the interior space could be. Also, the events in the TV show occur nearly 7 years after the train departed vs 17 years, so that could explain why things on the train haven't devolved quite as much. The class system on the train is also different and more stratified in the show, there are 3 classes plus the tail section as opposed to the tail section and everyone else in the movie. This makes more sense, in my opinion, because like in our society the first class passengers would still need the proletariat to make things function. We also get a peek at the locomotive at the end of episode one, and it actually looks like a futuristic train would instead of a cavernous sparkly nebulous black box engine like the one in the movie. I'm not sure why the show is getting so much hate on here, but I'm definitely looking forward to more of Snowpiercer 2020.

Space Force: Season 15
May 30, 2020
I really wanted to like this show, and I watched every episode. It's just not good though. The cast is great, the acting worse, and the writing is terrible. There were occasional moments that were humorous, but most jokes fell flat. Steve Carell's character is a lot like Michael Scott from The Office, but more competent. The premise of "Michael Scott like character heads a bloated space agency and the bureaucratic red tape and hijinks that ensue" is actually a great idea, but the execution was just bad. Overall, Space Force is not the worst bingeable time-waster that Netflix has produced, and it does get better as it progresses, but I can promise you that you won't be satisfied with where the plot goes by the last episode.

Vagrant Queen6
May 22, 2020
Pretty generic sci-fi plot, mediocre special effects, and lots of EDM. Set and costume design are good, considering the presumably low budget. I'm going to follow it for a couple more episodes and see how it goes. Can't help but think that SyFy has cancelled so many better shows, but they probably cost more. Anyway, Vagrant Queen is fairly entertaining and perhaps even enjoyable if you go into it with low expectations.

Tacoma FD: Season 20
Apr 10, 2020
How a show this awful was renewed for a second season is beyond me. I guess living in the era of "peak TV" means that we will continue to be subjected to this lowest common denominator garbage. In Tacoma FD, bro jokes and and juvenile humor abound. truTV even proudly posted a video to youtube titled "Tacoma FD - Raunchiest Moments". Apparently this show's worst quality is also its most redeeming... which does not bode well for those looking for quality programming.

Good Girls6
Jan 15, 2020
Good Girls is somewhat like the show Weeds, but with half as much charisma and far less believability. Honestly, this trio would have been caught after the very first episode given the fact that there were many witnesses and they're a distinctive and recognizable group of women (not much of a spoiler given the show summary on Metacritic). For a much better rendition (the original?) of the whole "suburban mother, struggling financially, turns to crime - and the ensuing drama and intrigue", just watch Weeds. The story arc and character development is so much better than Good Girls, though I think that show went on for too many seasons. All of that aside, I'm a fan of these actresses and found the first two seasons of Good Girls to be entertaining and fun. I'll definitely be watching the third season when it premieres in February.

The Witcher: Season 17
Jan 3, 2020
I'm not really sure why this show is getting so many "0" scores. I'm also not entirely sure if most of the critics and viewers who gave it such low ratings actually watched the entire series? I didn't think that the first season of The Witcher from Netflix was a masterpiece, but I also didn't think it was so terrible that it had NO redeeming qualities (which a score of 0/10 would suggest). From the couple of die-hard fans of the books that I spoke to prior to the show's release, it was evident that they were likely to be unhappy about the show regardless of how it actually turned out. All that being said, I think there were certainly a few areas that could have been better. It took several episodes for the show to really get going, and establish who the main characters were. Without any prior knowledge of the franchise, I can definitely see how someone could feel a bit lost after the first episode. By the end, I thought that the characters and their motivations etc were satisfactorily fleshed out. Still, the last episode felt more like a half-way point for what the story arc of Season 1 should have been, had twice as many episodes been produced instead of the paltry 8 episodes. Overall, I'd give The Witcher a hopeful 7/10. I think that if the show runners listen to critics/fans about the shortcomings of Season 1, they can certainly be remedied when the next season begins production early this year.

Tacoma FD0
Sep 27, 2019
The first episode of Tacoma FD is terribly unfunny, and hardly attempts to give viewers the sense that the show even takes place in the Pacific Northwest. I'll admit that, as someone that has previously lived in Tacoma, Washington, it was the supposed setting of this show that initially piqued my interest. The entire show is filmed in Los Angeles, which is a baffling choice considering the robustness of the film industry in Vancouver BC (where TV shows/movies set in Seattle, WA are often filmed).
Why even make a show called "Tacoma FD" if Tacoma, Washington State, and the entire Pacific Northwest Region are not included visually, thematically, or otherwise. This show should have been called "The Worlds Most Unrealistic Los Angeles FD" instead, at least that would have been a descriptively accurate title.
