Alien: Earth

Noah Hawley’s dazzlingly haunting epic is all about what exactly defines us as human.

“Alien: Earth” is the most satisfying entry in the franchise in a long, long time — and one of the best television shows this year.

“Alien: Earth” is a lavish production – more so than any of the films in the canon – but just as claustrophobic and, easily, as memorable.

In lesser hands, a series spinoff of the theatrical “Alien” franchise might seem like just another IP play — a money grab. But pair Noah Hawley, the writer behind FX’s “Fargo,” with “Alien,” and you get a show that’s significantly better than that.

As is often true of this franchise, the philosophical-existential stuff is never quite as deep as it wants to be. (See: Prometheus and Alien: Covenant.) But on a mechanical and biological level—and on its technical merits—the series is a gripping marvel.

Plenty of elements of this show are fun revisions on a classic, but Wendy's story is enough to make you wonder if science fiction will ever get a new gimmick.

To be fair, this is a series meant to be watched on a weekly basis rather than binged all at once, but the energy here is so flat that I imagine viewers might get fed up and abandon ship early rather than sticking with the entire mission.

My rating for this film: a very good series that expands the world of Alien. It preserves the atmosphere of the main series very well. I recommend this film to anyone who likes science fiction. A great ending and, at the same time, an introduction to the next season.

Alien: Earth es interesante, después de Alien: Romulus que simplemente nos daba un buen fan service para los fans, repitiendo los grandes hits de la saga de Alien, el director de la serie de Fargo nos ofrece algo distinto. La diversidad de especies alienígenas le suma mucho a la franquicia, es el gran acierto de la serie, sumándole el setting de ciencia ficción estilo películas como Blade Runner (Incluso hay un personaje guiño con la estética de la película). Los temas tratados de existencialismo típicos de la ciencia ficción y las propias películas del director de Prometheus y Covenant están presentes aquí y la verdad que le sienta muy bien. Ahora hablemos de lo malo, su protagonista, que como pudimos ver en el tráiler, el hecho de que fuera esta vez un sintético podía restarle tensión a la trama siendo demasiado Mary Sue. Eso mismo sucedió, a parte de darle demasiada plot armor al personaje, este tiene demasiados poderes a los que le podríamos decir: lo hizo un mago. La misma película se burla de ello diciendo que una tecnología de un alto nivel que pasa por encima de nuestro entendimiento puede parecer magia y eso mismo tenemos, conveniencias de guion. Alien: Earth es una experiencia refrescante, apaguen un poquito su cerebro, dejen pasar un poco esas pequeñas conveniencias de guion y traten de disfrutarla porque por fin tenemos algo en la IP un poco distinto. Al igual que con Prometheus, se celebra. Solo me queda rezar que para la siguiente temporada, nuestra protagonista sea la nueva antagonista de la serie.

This is the ugliest piece of **** I’ve seen in a long time with the most annoying and stupid characters imaginable. It was painful to watch.
