Terrible game. You're better off playing Skyrim yet again for hundreds of hours if you want something like this. Slow, sluggish, feels like a chore to play, as if you're really in the medieval times. So if you want slow and painful gameplay, which I assume many must like to praise this game, or maybe it has a decent story. But after several hours, I just can't stand it. I can think of a whole bunch of other games I'd rather be playing instead of this.

So I just finished this game. Credits rolling while I type this out. Listening to ending credit song while I type this review out. First thing that really stands out the most in this game is the music before anything else. I don't know this composer, but he composed such a beautiful soundtrack, and even the battles have so many varied music theme instead of just one or 2 for a regular battle and a few for boss battles. There's so many variations with the gameplay. Combat is so varied with picto, weapons and lumina and how to adjust your skills, and as this world opens up, you can do things in whatever order you want if you want to stray from the main story. It really does feel like the glory days of old JRPGs, but in French culture and theme and atmosphere, which is quite different. The French are pretty incredible when it comes to art. Since I also felt like I was exploring a virtual French museum while playing this game. The story concept was pretty interesting as it unfolds from something out-worldly to ultimately being about family and the importance as well as the complications of family. There's many dark themes and tones of the environment and story. It's bittersweet, but it's also fun and has a lot of soul and charm as well. This is one game I want to continue playing all the other things within it. Definitely a must play!

I wanted to hate this game like so many others who hate rated this, because of the issue with Yasuke and the inaccuracy it might be in historical Japan. I still disagree that he had this much important in the history of Japan. Despite this, and trying to avoid playing him as much as possible, since playing his character is too clunky and sluggish, but with brute strength. After playing it for over 40 hours, I'm near the end of the game and killed all the main baddies in their own branch out of all the series of other baddies you can assassinate. I find the game itself to be quite good. I like Naoe's character, and as a fictional character for this world, she is the main character, and Yasuke is just inserted, just cause. The gameplay is addicting, although the terrain can sometimes be annoying to navigate and maneuver about. The balance of combat and difficulty isn't too bad. The story is pretty good and it's amazing exploring this ancient Japan world. So initially I wanted to dislike this, but I found myself liking it more than I wanted and getting hooked with it. It's a good game, but it could have done without Yasuke to make it a masterpiece.

Amazing and addicting game. I played it non-stop for 4 days straight for most of these days. 10+ hours a day. It gave me a wave of nostalgia again and almost the same feelings as if I was playing the original, but of course with better graphics and modern gameplay. Even when I got to certain locations, I was filled with so much excitement as if I was a kid again. It's been a while since a game got me this excited and I had this much fun. Definitely a must play if you played the original, and even if you haven't played the OG, the first part of the remake and this one is still one you should be playing.

I'm possibly halfway through the game or more and I just came across a cutscene which I felt was simply a masterpiece. 30 hours in and the entire game also felt like a masterpiece too and I knew it'd just continue to get better from there. I've always been a fan of all the Xeno games though. I even enjoyed the 2nd one while many may have not liked it as much, and at first I still liked the 2nd one better than this one, but both games are great in their own way. The music is always top notch in these games, especially with one of the best video game composers in the industry. This time around he made the music more atmospheric rather than the typical JRPG-esque instrumental music we tend to see. So it feels like you're really apart of the game. The characters have layers of depth to them and their interactions as they face one of their greatest struggles of overcoming the acceptance of death with what little life they have, and living life to the fullest. The characters and this game teaches a great lesson and allows you to grow really attached. The battle is a lot of fun and as been a little more simplified compared to the other titles, while it still throws some more new fun mechanics to make the battle engaging. I can't wait to finish this gem as it feels like there's still some more. I'm not 100% sure how much I have left. Usually I'll look these things up so I know when I'll be done with a game to move onto the next, but with a great game like this, i prefer to be surprised and just wait and see myself how long it'll be.

I usually don't give very many games a poor review or low score, especially RPGs since I generally enjoy them, but this game is almost unplayable and hard to continue playing and enjoying. The game itself doesn't seem too hard but the frame rate constantly dips making the game lag a lot. The characters move quite slow and I haven't found any option or button to let them run. The subtitles are too hard to see and go by way too quickly because they are speaking Chinese. Sometimes they're only up for a fraction of a second that I don't think the fastest reader in the world even has time to see it all in time. The battle is more convoluted than necessary which makes you only want to turn on auto-battle and not even worry about trying to figure out the battle menu. I get this game is a little older but even older games ran better than this and I tried coming back to this game at least 5 different times in over the one year since I bought it in hope that I will change my mind. I can barely get through half an hour each time playing before I just can't stand the game. So I'm done with this game and will YouTube some of the story and ending. Definitely stay clear from this game if you're looking for a RPG. Fortunately there are plenty of JRPG alternatives which are way better. This is a Chinese RPG but they all have similar styles.

This is the true Final Fantasy game. To me anything written by Hironobu Sakaguch with music by Nobuo Uematsu is FF Canon, anything SE makes is fanfiction, with the exception of maybe Final Fantasy XIV since it's decent and Yoshi-P actually does a great job directing and it's a nice love letter to the franchise. Otherwise the game itself ramps up in difficulty and even if you grind there's still strategies required for the many bosses throughout the game, and once you're over the level of the monsters you're grinding you get so much less exp so you have to find stronger enemies, making you go out and explore and do many quests throughout the game. Many of these quests have a purpose too. The music is the best part of the game as well as the battle system and the story with the genius behind it, Sakaguchi himself. It's a unique setting as each land and area is designed with real life dioramas and placed digitally inside the game for you to explore. This game has so much charm and nostalgia feeling, it'll truly make you feel like you're playing just another FF. To me, Lost Odyssey is Final Fantasy 13 and Fantasian is Final Fantasy 15. The last story was decent too but it could've been much better to start out a parallel FF franchise, so it just wasn't good enough for that. Rumor goes that this is once again Sakaguchi's project, but maybe that's his marketing tactics yet again to create another FF big series. If this truly does become his last project, it's definitely a masterpiece to leave us all with. Go try it out. Get apple arcade free for one month trial. Borrow an apple product from a friend if you don't have one, or hopefully one day it'll be released for more than just apple products. It's a must play for sure.

Giving this a 10/10 because it definitely doesn't deserve an overall 5.5/10. It has a really good story once you get to the end of it. I just finished it myself and got all the endings. The gameplay is fun although clunky, and the switch between both worlds makes this mechanic a more interesting take on this indie jrpg. It's a small studio within SE and sadly their last RPG, and the concept of death told in this story is intriguing. The final boss is somewhat disappointing. I'd maybe give this a 7 or 8 out of 10. But as I said 5.5 is way too low for user score and I feel like people only tried a little bit of this game and gave up on it so easily before giving it a fair score.

Played about 30 hours, I would say 77 out of 100. But I think I've outgrown it, so started to feel bored of it 10 hours in, and i usually only pick up a pokemon game every 5 to 10 years to see what changes there are. I miss having all the HM stuff you can teach your pokemon to do, instead it seems to go on your bike or some other mode of transportation. Being gigantic is odd to me at times when you can. I don't care if every single pokemon is in there or not, 500 or almost that amount is still a lot to me, when I'm still used to old school pokemon with 300 or less. I just got my last badge last night. So I'm on my way to the champion road I guess they call it, and not pokemon league. Team Yell seems dumb to me, but I guess they ran out of ideas for bad guys. Other than that, I kinda like the lore behind the sword and shield, and it's somewhat nostalgic for me, but then it also feels a little too new and fresh to have very much nostalgia.

I've only played this game for 1 or 2 hours, so maybe this isn't quite a fair review, so my review might change later, but I felt in this short amount of time, I got a good grasp of the game and its mechanics and how it is overall. Compared to other MMOs and even RPGs, I feel it's really simple and not as indepth, as it holds your hand like any other mobile/gacha game. It's riddled with gacha upgrades and quick achievements here and there to pump out the dopamine to make you feel good, but they are nothing but lots of empty achievements, just like what MMOs seem to be these days. If I want to play a game that is gacha or mobile-like, then I personally would rather stick with one of the Final Fantasy ones since I'm a fan of the series or any RPG series I'm quite familar with and a fan of, instead of getting into one that is almost the same. I thought I might try this one to at least collect some PS4 trophies, but even then there's not a whole lot of trophies, and I managed to get all of them except 3 within that 1-2 hours of playing. This MMO just makes me prefer paying a subscription fee and going back to Final Fantasy XIV instead or a real MMO. I suppose that's what you get for something that is mostly free though. Despite all the negative feedback I gave, the game does deserve a bit of a higher score instead of my nitpicking for not being a fan of these kinds of games and the whole gacha/lottery system. The music sounds beautiful, and the art design is really interesting. The story seems decent enough so far, but it's too early to tell if it will get better. This is something that can be played casually for half an hour or an hour here and there, but it doesn't seem like there will be anything hardcore in it, unless you want to open up your wallet and pay a lot into it.

I just platinumed this game, and purchased it off amazon for $40 earlier this month. I put in approximately 60 hours into the game, then came on here and I was disappointed to see a lower than expected rating. Sure, ratings don't always matter, since people can have such wrong or bias opinions. But some of these negative reviews are comical. People are comparing it to Chrono Trigger, of course it may not be as classic or nostalgic like it, because the game is newer and a fresh take on what JRPG fans have been looking for in their games. It has pretty much all the elements to make up that JRPG you miss playing. For what it is, it is really well done. It doesn't make sense to knock it for its graphics either, because it's a niche genre and this is the style its fans are looking for. If it didn't have the backing of Square Enix, it would almost be an indie game as well, since it's made from a smaller company as well. So I can never understand how people can praise a game like UnderTale, with its even lower graphics and subpar story and silliness, but give low praise to a well done and beautiful game like this one. This is where bias comes in, especially towards JRPGs it seems, from Americans and those outside of Japan. Their standards are way too high or most people tend to look down on the JRPG genre. Other than that. This game has a beautiful and amazing score. An interesting array of characters from various walks of life. A compelling and deep story, with a post game tying up the true ending of the story. Then there's side stuff to do if you want to dive in some more into the game. The battle system is a lot of fun as well.

So I just finished the main game today, and I'm surprised to see the game get a lower score than it did. I read some of the low score reviews and I just had to laugh. The game really deserves a lot of praise and is really well done after waiting. We still had the other games to hold us over between KH2 and 3, so it wasn't as long of a wait as many complain about, since in that time we got so much story and the series was really fleshed out. I am somewhat disappointed that there's no Final Fantasy characters in the series anymore, being a big fan of Final Fantasy and the series starting out with the appeal of FF characters crossover with Disney, but I get it. The games became such a big thing on its own and added so many unique characters of their own to substitute, that the FF characters no longer have a place in that universe. Also, FF is saturated with crossovers in all the other recent FF games now, so besides maybe one or two FF superbosses, it's probably a good thing there is no FF characters in KH anymore. Aside from that, the combat is super fun with the transformation keyblades, there are a lot of mini games to play and things to do for side content. I'm going to go back myself and do all the side content now, maybe try to unlock the secret ending, and all that fun stuff. It's definitely worth the full price if you're holding back and waiting for a price drop.

First thing I have to address the negative comments. Like any game most just seem to be haters and want to see the game crash and burn for no apparent reason, so most of the negative 0 and 1 rating comments seem out of place and unnecessary. Example: Game has bad graphics for today's standards of games in 2018. --- PLEASE READ: Please do not give this game a 0 rating if you like the music but do not like the game, 0 rating is if you hate absolutely everything in a game, liking the music or something in the game can easily bump it up a point or few, personally the music and exploration makes up 50% of this game I find, so that's an easy 5 points, but everyone's observations are different. Also, using poor/oudated GRAPHICs is a poor reason to automatically give the game a 0, otherwise undertale and all indie games released after 2000 should also receive 0 scores. At least be fair and give more reasons in a review on why you feel it deserves that 0 or 1 score. The graphics and game art style should not surprise anyone who has seen anything about this game, whether it be a trailer or the demo or pictures/videos on social media or even by looking at the back of the box before purchasing the game. The appeal for this game is for nostalgia sake as a throwback to JRPGs from the 90s and some from the early 2000s. This is no different from praise given to indie games with its 16 bit sprites, like Undertale comes to mind and how well received it was for its simple retro graphics. With old style graphics, there's an element of charm and something extra special in the art style, especially in the backgrounds and how beautifully designed they are. As for the complaints of fight after fight after fight, it's not as bad as some people make it out to be. The maps for each zone is a little smaller than your typical RPG, so it's to be expected to have more battles and that's also a nostalgic part of older JRPGs where random encounters frustrating us was always a thing. But the battles have their own big charm in this game and it's quite a unique battle system with certain power and weapon weaknesses to break the foe and then how you can boost to use an attack multiple times for more damage. Something similar to the Bravely games, from the same creators who worked on this game. I like the whole separate character paths and how you can pick and choose which one you want to start and then travel to each one and explore their story, then the other greater element and mechanic is how each character has their own field ability to interact with the world and NPCs. I've played the game for 10 hours and I'm onto my fourth character, but just yesterday I spent a while just in one city using the character's abilities on each NPC when I got my extra new character, it made revisiting a town worthwhile to interact with each one and that new character specific field ability. Then of course you have your side quests and levelling/equipment system with everything JRPG fans love, not to mention an amazing soundtrack. I think for a big JRPG fan like myself, especially a fan of older JRPGs, since I grew up with the SNES and PS1/PS2 JRPGs as a kid and teenager, this type of JRPG even in this day and age is a dream-type of JRPG to be made today. It's well worth the purchase.

I'm on chapter 9 and can get onto chapter 10 any time now, but I'm focusing on maxing out all the bonds for the girls to get trophies. The game is quite stunning in its visuals which had quite the appeal for me when I first saw trailers for this game and made me want to pick it up. The music is really amazing too. There's a whole depth to this game as it gets behind the emotions of all the characters and deals with real life emotions in our daily lives. It's certainly a slice of life all girls high school settings, with cute high school girls, dressed or undressed in appealing manners for those with that fetish. But even for a teen target audience and perhaps some females, they can relate a lot with these characters. There's magical girls, something like aliens from an alternate dimension or almost coming from the subconscious realm called the common. There the girls fights, gain items to strengthen their fragments and craft items. The battle system, despite slow a bit is rather interesting and fun. You can speed up the wait time or do things later on inbetween the turns for you or the monsters. It is full of a lot of cutscenes but this is usually what JRPG fans tend to love. If moe' anime style high school JRPGs with a bonding system and magical girls is your thing, then definitely get this game. I probably wouldn't give it a 10/10 in all honesty, maybe a 9/10 or 8.5/10, but I feel I have to balance out that 0 score since reading the review looks a rather unfair assessment even if it is their opinion. From what I got out of it there was a tiny bit of enjoyment they got even to give it 1/10, so this score is making up for that. I also still have yet to beat it, so I'm certain it can only get better than worse by the time I get to the ending, because so far I think it's a fine piece of art.

Been playing this for about 4-5 hours before. A bit disappointing but still keeps the same fun battle gameplay. I don't know why, but I expected an open world multiplayer game during the time period when it's dark, where we encounter other players in the open world to do battles with, but instead you have your base in a solo instance, and the rest is instanced areas with other players online or by recruiting A.I.s in which you don't need PS+ for. I'm pretty sure you can do the whole story this way solo for now, as far as I can see. The most annoying thing so far are the escort fights just like in any online game or any game for that matter, since some of the things you have to protect can die so fast or easily, especially the one where you can't let the small ixion-like monsters escape. Let two escape and your target to protect's HP reaches 0, and it's not exactly easy to stop these guys in their track, at least not with yourself and A.I.s. Other than that, I feel like this will answer some questions as we progress through the story. The graphics and character customization is good, the music is quite good, but the game in general seems to get repetitive and somewhat dull. I gave FFXV a 10/10 despite most people disliking the game, but for this I have to bump the score down to a 7 because of a few nitpickings I have.

Definitely don't play this game unless you have played the first two Trails in the Sky games, otherwise you'll be completely lost on all the characters and what led up to this point in the game. Usually this sort of game I don't care that much for, since it's mostly a dungeon crawler and going through old past zones but in an altered state. The entire game is a wrap-up. I actually consider it a long, drawn out epilogue to the first two games. If this was any other game or perhaps series, I'd probably give this a lower score or I would stop playing this, but I may be a bit bias in this review because I am a fan of the series. Taking any biases away, the game has fantastic music, unique for the title, and amazing and drawn out narrative, which is always what the series is known for. There's side stories for each characters and mini games you can play, which adds more fun to the game. I'm only 10 hours into the game, so I still might have a bit to go, but I'm curious to see how each character's story ends and to see how the characters ended up in the one big dungeon-like place called Phantasama that they explore throughout the entire game. I knocked the game down a couple points because like I said, dungeon crawling isn't my preference and it doesn't really fit in the series whether I like it or not. I know the writers love to expand on the series and this universe, but I feel this game is a bit unnecessary at times, other than to please the fans. Otherwise, since we do have this game, it's enjoyable for what it is nonetheless.

It's a bit different from the first Trails of Cold Steel game, but the story continues on right from the first one. You should play the first one before you play the second one. Personally I prefer the first one, but this one also has a lot to it in terms of making new story discoveries and going to several new areas. It's a bit of a mash-up between suikoden, persona, Final Fantasy, and other classic JRPGs. There's some new added battle features added in, and there's new mini games. In act 2, about 2/3rd through the game, you gather students to join you, but they do not fight with you, but they have their own small part to play in the game. The soundtrack and animation is beautiful, and the story is great. The game itself has at least 50 to 60 or more hours worth of gameplay, and there's replay value in the game. This game as well as the other Trails games is a definite recommend for a modern JRPG. There's also fast travel and retry for failed battles for the lazy gamers.

Before I get into the negative aspect of the game, I just want to state that the soundtrack does sound amazing. That's the best part of this game, and I listened to the soundtrack before I played this game, so the soundtrack is what convinced me to try it out. Also, I wanted to see what all the fuss was and see why some voted it as the best game of all times, especially after a long contest was done on certain sites to vote for it. I was outraged how this game was voted beyond some of the other classic and amazing games out there. I didn't want to just be a disgruntled gamer and allow my nostalgia for past games to cloud my judgment, without even playing the game myself. That's when I finally got a chance to give it a try. Despite the soundtrack sounding like any old JRPG soundtrack, I can never get sick of hearing JRPG style music in various forms. Although this game and soundtrack was done by an American who is a large fan of JRPGs. The gameplay itself was rather boring, and the story itself was nothing new or special. Monsters or enemies attacking you at first, and then you befriend them. It's a typical shounen anime story, or stories you even see in a lot of video games. There's a few unique things sprinkled throughout to try and make this game differ from any other RPG, especially JRPG, even though this game is technically not a JRPG. The combat was a little fun, but I think it was fun because the game is so short, I wasn't spending hours doing the same combat system over and over again. I can't imagine if the game was 5-10x in length, and repeating this same combat system for that long. I think due to the game also being short, people were able to like it a little more, because there was no tedious grinding or side quests which might've been a boring fetch quest. The menus and equipment was rather simple, and it truly felt like a NES game. The NES games had their time, and that's why they just remain that, a classic. Trying to do a NES type game now just feels a bit ridiculous and feeding off nostalgia. With the internet, there's so many things for people to get their nostalgia fix. Other than putting a lot of work into the soundtrack, which seems noticeable, the rest just feels like lazy work in a game for a quick money grab and to have that 15 minutes of fame. This is voted as the best game ever, but I think it was voted that back in 2015. It's an insult to gaming for this title to be voted as such, and I am almost positive this game won't really be talked about much in 10 years, while other classic games will still be talked about.

I tried this game for half an hour or so today. It's a bit slow, the art style is good, and decent usage of puzzles. It seems like it tries hard to mix platform and puzzle. Maybe someone mentioned this in their reviews, but I looked through a lot of reviews, and I'm surprised no one mentioned the fact that the monsters and even level design is just an altered version of old Mario games. That is probably one of the biggest reasons this game gets such a higher score than it actually deserves, since Mario games are really popular. There's a lot of nostalgia in this game due to that fact and the 2D platform style of it all. There's certainly many better platform/puzzle games out there you could be playing before this one though.

I originally wrote a review when I first started this game. At the time I was only a few hours into the game. I just beat the game moments ago, so now I can make a full review. I still stand by my 10/10 rating. This JRPG is a journey down a nostalgic trip through the traditional and old school RPGs, but with modern graphics and faster gameplay. There are quite a lot of references to Chrono Trigger, which is why I can see people claiming it to be a spiritual successor, but it is no where near as grand as Chrono Trigger. It does have some similar themes, but it also has a mash-up of other classic RPGs, like Final Fantasy X and even a slight bit of Persona in it. You can rename all your characters, which was also a good thing back in the day for old RPGs. For me, I like to rename my characters after characters I used for a story I wrote a long time ago. But of course you can keep the original names or choose something else. I am Setsuna can then become, I am (insert name). The artistic visuals, the whole piano soundtrack, and even it being unique with nothing but a snowy environment is what makes this a new masterpiece. It may not appeal to some, especially in this day and age when there's so many other RPGs in the market and so many classics, it's hard to impress, even for myself after playing hundreds upon hundreds of RPGs, it's hard to feel good about any new RPG. It is not the best, but it is also not the worst, and I think it's deserving of a perfect score, despite some minor things that could've been added. We can all relate to journeys and loss in our life, and this game represents that quite well.
