Worst menus I've seen in a long time, every element of them is badly designed. Whoever decided on that stuff should never work in the industry again, go be a greeter at walmart, you aren't cut out for design work. Terrible map, just amazingly bad. Weird arbitrary limit on the zoom in and vertical rotation makes it hard to see where stuff is. It really blows my mind that this was the final product, that no one saw a problem with it. Seems like one of those things a stupid executive did, ignoring the advice given to them by the actual designers. Or, the designers are just stupid, I don't know. A lot of fancy nonsense in this game that makes it worse to play so far. I wish gameplay would become the focus again, not infinite visual acuity and pointless fanciness, like decorative clothing that doesn't change gameplay. I don't know how many hours in I am but it still feels like I'm in the training intro, they are still holding my hand to a ludicrous degree. That needs to stop entirely, games need to just begin and let you figure it out, that's fun. Being forced to run around a labrynthian castle to get your basic spells is annoying. I hate the castle already after having to run around a bunch for basic stuff, I don't want to stop and enjoy the cool little stuff because of the fetch quest style they took. It's really boring so far. Great music, cool ambiance, but so far the gameplay kinda **** and the overall interface is ghastly. It sure looks like AAA games are done for, the corporate structure overcomplicates the decision-making process and all decisions are about profit instead of creative vision. The tech is already good enough for a solo developer to make amazing games, that's the future of gaming, passion projects that really make you feel something. This game isn't soulless, it's actually a decent example of what that dying approach can do, some of the magic of the Harry Potter universe does come through despite the best efforts of the executives. But this could be a million times better pretty easily and it's weird to me that it isn't better, the problems and most of the solutions are obvious. That's why I assume the corporate structure is to blame, only bureacracy could make these kind of stupid mistakes. People saying this game is amazing are ignoring obvious major flaws because the industry has been putting out soulless garbage so anything with an ounce of characterfeels great by contrast. I see this as an interesting interactive movie but a middling video game. Some great elements, like the music, some really good elements, like the world building vibes stuff, but a lot of basic flaws too, it's confusing. Seems like the company is badly designed, decisions being made by people who shouldn't. It's so easy for someone to add a heap of stupid spice on something good and make it hard to swallow. I'll keep playing, but I'm disappointed because the hype was so positive and this game doesn't deserve that, not even close. Parts of it deserve an 8 or 9, but parts deserve a 4 or 5, so it gets a 6 from me and that feels generous. That mostly comes from the music, it's perfect, every second of the music brings me joy.

Didn't like the scaling at first, or the way some weapons are better than others. But after playing it more and beating some levels I get it. I see it when I close my eyes. Amazing brain hack, but with a fair economic model, really cool.

Didn't love it at first. Played more, got a better sense of how I liked playing it. Now I see it when I close my eyes. Very brain hacked but fair economic model. I never play freemium games, this is like them but with good intentions.

Good elements. Some of the setups for fights are frustratingly horrible, like being put into some inescapable low ground with the enemy all around. I am a strategic player of all games, so being forced into a hard battle I saw coming and couldn't decide to avoid with a smart strategy really **** the joy out of this game for me. They workedvery hard to prevent you from being able to take care and fight defensively. This game is only for the type of player that likes to run in guns blazing, **** that they force a type of play style because most of this game is made really well. A more open approach to big battles, like Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath (except most of the end section, that part ****), would have made this an 8 or 9/10 game. I can't imagine how developers would not be rewarded for allowing players space to play in a way that works for them. In this case it'd be pretty easy to make better because they worked hard to do the opposite and control your engagement too much. So don't do that, step back and the game is already better. The controlling thing feels like a decision someone made after the game was almost finished, "No, make it more stressful, the projections say stressful games sell 7.67% more on the 14-40 male demographic....blah blah...quarterly reports...shareholders.. yabbity blabbity...this stick is really chafing the o'd bunghole, how DID it ever get in there?"

The shooting dynamics are good. The setting, characters, voice acting, and storytelling are good. But they made terribly stupid decisions for the boss fights. The main part of the level will be fun and then end with you stuck in a low spot with enemies all around and above you. He can't jump well at all so you're stuck in that absurd situation until beating the enemies and some magical path opens up. I hated every single one of those fights, complete garbage design choices on top of an otherwise great game. The dorector of this was a moron.

The reviews had me worried about buying this game but the visual and control issues have been fixed. The game looks and plays fine on my switch. So far I am very pleased, especially since I bought it on sale. Ok, I've played it more and a lot is good. Just spent forever in the geothermal plant trying to find a terminal because it all looks the same and the quest didn't give me a waypoint. I understand that waypoints aren't realistic, but neither is the restricted amount of viewing area within the interface.

Good elements to the game but the inescapable grind of it makes it awful to me. I don't want to have to replay the game dozens of times to develop the story. That can be an option, but having an option where the story and gameplay flow together at a reasonable pace would be great to have as well. A mode that is truly easy would also be great, I could enjoy the infinite grind of the game if it was easier, as-is it is a stressful game to play so I don't enjoy playing it.

Gave this 1 star after fighting the double gloktigis but decided most of the game is too good to do that. Figured out that if you switch back to first person after getting out of the web you can still fire your gun when the spin attack is happening. A thudbuster/bees combo did well for me once I figured out that you needed to switch back to first person at the right time because you get continuously owned by the spin/recovery timing in 3rd person. That interaction is broken and the fight is terribly designed but doable. The game is really good on every level until the end. I disliked the boat, the timed run, the gloktigis, the end boss, and the ending itself. The end boss is so boring in comparison to every other boss fight in the game, just awful. He's just done after destroying those two side electricity things? I was all ready to have a dope fight with him and then it's right to a cut scene where he gets away. Who wrote that garbage? Ridiculous. It's a bummer to have a great game end so badly on gameplay and story to setup some sequel that never came. Stranger should have ripped that squid off his head after I busted his ass for a while and discovered it was a fellow steef in that moment and made the squid go squish with a dope roar of victory. Bring in another enemy for a sequel. Killing off Septo allows you to design an entirely new dope enemy. So much of this game is truly excellent and worth experiencing. I have only small complaints for the game up until the end stuff, where it's like a 3/10 where most of the game is like a 8-9/10 for me. I love the voice acting, character/world design, most of the story, the gameplay until the end, the variety/creativity of live ammo, literally everything except most of the end stuff.

The strategy battle game is really good, 8.5/10. My only issues with that are the lack of complete camera control and the tedious bosses that involve silly stages of processes and them getting all their life back instead of making an interesting fight with a smart powerful enemy. It's like, nah, let's just make it take a long time by giving them their life back a couple times. But still, the real game here is very good. But I'm giving it a 6/10 because of the awful 3D map and puzzle they added on top of an excellent game. It all looks nice, but it's tedious and pointless and is only there to make the campaign take longer. I haaaaaaaaaaate every second of that stuff. I would love to smack whoever made the decision to do that, one full power stink palm slap to the face for ruining the hard work of all those people with a bad direction choice. The people that gave this a 10/10 shouldn't take part in this website because they aren't critical thinkers and must give 10/10 to everything because it has huge flaws. Maybe play the game for a while before writing a review.

Cool art style and voice acting. TERRIBLE platforming, remove all of that and the game will be a lot better. The battles are mostly fun. The dynamite throwing physics are terrible. The aiming is tricky but fun. Good use of cover and things in the landscape and different enemy behaviors. The movement controls during the battle are buggy, not always following where I've moved the aiming point or turning red. The platforming is really stressing my desire to keep playing though, I hate that part of this game sooooooo much, just get rid of it and transition between story/town stuff and the battles. I'd really like playing this game then.

Played through Phantasy Star IV first, had a lovely time. Shining Force was frustrating me with how often they want you to miss, but that before I realized how easy it is to reverse time with the collection, that is an excellent. Used that on Shining Force 2 when they had me miss and to speed up all the boring stuff and it was a great playthrough. That game is a masterpiece. Now I'm starting Landstalker, probably onto Phatasy Star III after that. Only one missing for me is Shadowrun, that's still the best video game I've played from the Shadowrun universe, good story, fun skill progression, gets the feel just right. Sega Genesis really had some gems. SNES and PS1 too of course, so many great games.

There are many flaws in this game, many annoying design choices. I don't like the way they handled the story at all, all of the divine beasts areas are tedious af and it's enraging to not be able to climb on those surfaces and have to do all the lame puzzles. The shrine puzzles are hit/miss, some are great, some absolutely ****. None of that is very important though when compared to how much I love the gameplay, it's just so much fun to play. There's only one huge thing I HATE about the gameplay, the breakable weapons, oh do I hate that, such a terrible idea. I assume that was to incentivize moving them through the inventory and use that cool throw thing, but it ends up meaning we have fiddle with menus CONSTANTLY in battles. That **** so much, it comes close to ruining the rest of what is perfect about this game, but not quite. Having to change a weapon/bow/shield because it broke is annoying every single time it happens, I think about how much I hate it every single time it happens. Truly one of the worst design choices I've ever seen. But the rest of the gameplay is so good that it makes up for it to the point that I still love this game so so much. I love gliding, gathering, cooking, fighting, sneaking, all that stuff. If they put all this open world stuff into a proper linear story for BOTW2 and got rid of breakable weapons it would become the best game ever made, easily. I like linear stories, I just want to choose when to progress the story and when to do side stuff. There was no need to reinvent the wheel for this lame climax moment. The Ganon fight is lame, that was a dumb thing to make the center moment. Big cutscenes ****, nt sure how that became such a popular thing in games. I play games instead of watching movie/tv because i get to control the character. Cutscenes full of expensive animation have become so common they bore me. I hunger for control, not shiny fluff. I'm on a second playthrough and will never do the endfight. It's beautifully fun to just visit the world and wander and do stuff and maybe find something new. But I sure wish I could connect to a story from time to time and friend characters that maybe come with me sometimes. All the other "main" characters do their thing and then bail, they have no depth, we aren't meant to care for them. Link feels like an empty vessel here, I don't like that, I want him to be a personality, not an emptiness to fill with my identity. He should have more story and personality. They failed hardcore on all those elements in this game but they did so well with the gameplay and world making so it's ok, but here's hoping Botw 2 changes all that.

I don't get it. The combat isn't fun, the attack happens too quickly so the timing has to be super precise or you get hit by the enemy. I gave it 4 hours and never picked it up again. Cool art style, but it also doesn't make me feel good inside to look at, I want to feelbetter after spending time in a game space, like Skyrim. The graphics ****, the game is buggy and the story **** and all that, but I still feel better after spending time in that place. Maybe this place reminds people of their shadow space inside, but it feels too dark for me, there is more color in my shadow space. I'm glad this games brings some people joy, but I did not enjoy it at all. Just putting this out there because I came in seeing the sea of good reviews and was surprised at how little fun the actual gameplay gave me. I care a lot about how the controls feel and the programming was fine on this, everything works, but I didn't like the design choices made pretty much across the board. So don't buy it thinking it is certain you will love it. My experience was like a 2/10, it's just that a lot of work clearly went into it, gotta be a 9/10 on effort, so I gotta give it a 5/10 to balance it out.
