A friend goes up to me and asks "hey you wana play a game where we kill bugs and build a big factory". Without even asking what that game was or for any context I said sure why not. Best impulse decision ever- Factorio is just one of those games man. I did not think I'd be this invested in a game such as this, having a brain cell count that doesn't surpass three digits and all. I found this game really fun, the constant **** around we did was surprisingly fun for a game for logic nerds and creating systems whatnot. I'd be screaming at my friend STOP THROWING **** GRENADES AT ME MAN I'M AT 1 HP. But yeah goofiness aside I'm surprised at how we pulled through and set up a decent factory n got to space. We're still half way through space age so that's been going well, rly enjoying the dlc. But yeah On our first playthrough I of the base game think we got to purple science and they suggested "IK you'll hate me but shall we start over, new save our base is so unstructured". I was like :(( but returning to that save weeks later, holy **** was it inefficient as **** lmao. Factorio is so gratifying to play once you get used to balancing ratios of resources and thinking outside the box with certain elements. I remember being **** scared to leave our base to travel space and was like "are we POSITIVELY SURE we can leave our base with THIS much set up". they were like yeah lol. It was destroyed within 10 minutes of leaving- Mistakes will always be made playing this game, and I don't think I have the willpower to make a megabase like you see on youtube like that will destroy my way of thinking I would fumble so hard. Just let me work on my blue circuit factory in peace.

Minecraft Legends

Minecraft legends is a pretty solid game, for a strategy game it takes that pikmin sorta style of gameplay, mixes it with a bit of custom structure building and such in order to defend or attack bases. The game can be pretty difficult at times and the strategy boils down to, how many upgrades can you get to have a higher chance of winning, luck based on the actual difficulty of the hoards you face etc. it seems as if it is random, but it at least tells you the difficulty of that particular base once you go near it. The progression is taught and delivered to you pretty well, I found myself grasping what the game was trying to do after the first 2 hours and understood the loop. It is pretty addicting and fun to strategize, synergise with towers and minions and unlock new ****. The Minecraft elements fit into the game in a nice way. The hate for the game is pretty underserved, for the concept and execution, this **** works However, the flaws are obvious. This game isn’t too buggy, it’s playable. The online is pretty solid, the only issue being this weird little bug that makes everything freeze in place. If it happens a lot you can save the game and load the world back up. The world itself takes a bit to load but it’s not horrendous. Oh yeah, if the game seemed buggy, as you play it kiiinda gets worse. Also; I saved and exited randomly and my game just shut off. And then it was corrupted. In the game it saves a new save slot every in-game day. But nah if this bug happens it just deletes your ENTIRE save. So in conclusion; do not play this on PS4, I don’t think this bug happens on PS5 thankfully Across ppl’s saves, the game has its own progression. So you can hop into another person’s game and have their stats basically, it’s all shared. If I were to pick this game up again, I’d prolly continue with Jason’s save as I don’t even want to think about making another at this stage, kinda a waste. Oh well I was planning on plating this game, nemind.

Has a lot of interesting mechanics and the realisation of how manual the game actually became was funny to me and I enjoyed playing it The narrator was revealed to be American at the end so I was very disappointed!!!!Funny n the artstyle is jank n uncanny, creepy at times with all the blood n stiff movements at times 7.2/10

Honestly is my favourite game of all time,do not ask me to hop on terraria because I will not be able to put this **** down once I start. Always loved building but the past few years I’ve just been addicted to the game loop; that loop being starting an entire new save with friends or some solo challenge. Either way terraria has so much to offer and continues to do so. I think the dev team are some of the most passionate I’ve ever seen and are still going strong. They love this game so much that they promise a final update but keep adding more and more. It’s insane. I love how committed they are to this game and it’s honestly just improved and improved, there’s never been a dud update, the game isn’t getting more cluttered, it’s impressive how far this game has come over the past decade and continues to triumph. I feel with games like Minecraft (not to be one of those people who compare all the time but) they’re currently having an identity crisis with the game, Microsoft really don’t know what’s best because they didn’t make it, they keep adding more and more and inventory clutter has become a huge issue, so much quality of life could be added or fixes to make console not crash or chug all the time online. But nah they keep just adding and adding n it gets tiresome. With terraria they just keep coming back fresh and I adore that so much.

Patapon 2 is rly fun imo, it’s very gimmicky but it rly rly works. The soundtrack on its own would prolly annoy the **** out of me listening to it on its own (you’d have to be insane or a child) but ye, it accompanies the game very well. Bosses were brought back from the first game and changed to fit the game nicely, this was a big step up from the first It has a lot of charm and the upgrading, farming, boss hunts n expeditions are addicting n I love these kinds of games, that combined with the fact that it’s a whole rhythm / strategy game is insane, cannot think of another game that does this Love this to bits, there’s not a lot of games I can pick up and get to the end nowadays9/10

I love how ridiculous the devs made saints row after 3, what was apparently an April fools reveal ended up just being the next game (from what I’ve heard idk)Either way, I love the direction of the game, the witty humour and stupidness parodying itself, it’s clever and I respect it. It’s on par with gat out of hell; I think gat has better n fun weapons (very similar to 4 anyway), and I prefer the vitals in hell with the wings and powers n **** (just an aesthetic preference). The combat is basically the same between both games anyway. 4 though explored the characters of the game a lot more, having objectives and funny interactions between the main cast of SR, which is something barely explored in 5 as it was just Johnny and kinz.Either way, I do think I prefer the humour and execution of this game a lot more. There’s a lot more stupid shenanigans and **** to do, humour across the story is great and holy, the character customisation.Good game, it did crash like 5 times (even though I’m on ps4) and the gameplay was fun. Nobody saves the world is a weirdly charming game. It has an interesting start and mechanic behind the game. The idea of transforming yourself, levelling each form of yourself up to unlock new traits and abilities, you then unlock the ability to mix and match said abilities, giving you a lot of strategic range throughout the game. Levels scaling is a thing, as you become more powerful so does everything else (slightly). I think I grounded out a bit more than I should’ve to beat the game but, no matter. A grind to unlock each form and ability was stressful but gratifying, it kinda became a slog and I think the balancing between you grinding and doing quests WHILST attempting to progress in the game can be a bit degrading and drags, but it kinda works, I just had a long stressful time with it and sometimes turned into a fat grind. I might platinum the game, but that’ll require me to do the game again in new game plus so, we’ll seeA very fun interesting and quirky game, with a few irritating bits but cool nevertheless.7.5/10

Just finished the campaign for BO1, I’m a huge fan of the modern warfare series and the only other BO game I’ve played outside of that has been 3, which was only a bit and I thought it was, mehhh ok.I loved the campaign for all the MW games, I felt like the BO1 campaign was on par, if felt great, didn’t take me a long time to beat but the pacing and mission variants are top tier. A lot of interesting mechanics that you barely see in other COD games, a lot of helicopter firing, crossbow usage, slow-mo quick time events, and I feel you plant C4 at least a dozen times. The fact you do these things more than once isn’t a bad thing, but from the first half of the game each new thing was a surprise. Each mission offered something unique, the game felt expansive af. I’m not even sure how to rank these games as the campaigns have been really solid for all of them. I also think that this has the best zombies. BO2 I’ve only played an hour or two of so far and I really don’t get it. WAW zombies is class and I feel BO1 zombies tops that. I’ve not played any of the DLC ones so, what you get on the base game (plus funny iconic Kennedy zombies scene) makes it really fun and memorable. Tried the multilayer and, well it’s just multiplayer as per usual lolEngaging, solid and exciting (having been released 14 years ago). Felt great 8.8/10

Shame it turned into one of *those* games but I ended up finishing cleaning up the trophies for the plat last night. Not a very long game however some of the levels can take up to 40 minutes depending on how thorough you search for chests and dialogue options for trophies. About 9 levels in total with a boss at the end; the game is pretty fun for a top-down dungeon crawler. There are 50 weapons to discover with different attacking styles such as swords, guns, stabby weapons, slappy weapons and punchy weapons, however the loot is never randomised and the chests in every level always give you the same one each run, so basically the runs are exactly the same each time and there’s barely any point in replaying. You get an overall score for each level but it barely matters and isn’t too impressive as by the time you beat the level your score will average out the same each time (unless you purposely avoid enemies on specific levels you don’t need to kill any). On the final mission my score literally capped at 999,999 so for some missions you literally hit the score limit. You can die in game however there’s barely any consequence for it; especially on the boss segment at the end, there’s no lives counter and you can just keep dying until you beat the boss (which I didn’t have to do cus I’m gaming). Just a shame there’s, in essence, no true difficulty.Either way, the game is pretty fun and somewhat mindless. The artstyle is cute like crossy roads or trove in a way. Whilst fun it is short and lacks replayability. It was on a fat discount for like £1.60 or something and it’s usually like 20 or 25 quid (??) which is not worth the price in my opinion. I should expect this quality when the discounts are really cheap.

Bad Mojo. **** a game I played for a bit but my pc actually stopped working, cba to buy the actual steam version, my itch download had an error or smth so I watched a full playthrough of it, short but quite the interesting **** starts off in such an intriguing way, it's a lengthy unskippable cutscene all in live action. About some guy in his apartment and his landlord interrogates him about the rent, the acting is so intriguing to watch lmao. anyway he plans to **** off but ends up stealing this amulet or something and transforms into a bug, think it was a little cockroach. anyway the gameplay is this top down exploration puzzle game using photography and images with some decent perspective work as the cockroach sprite traverses the different bits of scenary, crawling around puddles of rainwater and climbing into car engines. It's all really weird and ichy visually but it flows and plays really nicely. It's an incredibly just weird concept, probably done in film hundreds of times about morphing into a little bug, but yeah I found this super interesting and for the mid-90's very neat.7/10

Birdgutis a silly little flash-ish game about some deformed wasp who turned out like a little bean fella with wings, so derpy so silly. He's an outcast and is shunned by passers by and kicked out of his hive immediately before anyone finds him. You end up being eaten by a big birdy (bird gut), inside is not what you'd expect, a whole contraption factory, society / digestive system hybrid. looks like a very cartoonish hollow knight. the machine upon entering the bird brainwashes every bug it eats to serve the society inisde, the little fella (you) is not affected and you do **** and escape yadda yadda. The platforming in this game is one of the best parts (other than the silly little art direction), it has a lot of gimmicks and platforming mechanics that work really well, most feel lbp inspired ish? there's a lot of similar conventions and puzzles that feel similar to the game's story modes. either way, they nailed the platforming. The final fight is quite **** but doable, ended up retrying for a good while, the little bean bug is NOT great at dodging projectiles going 80mph through the air whilst you are the skiddiest **** ever-. There's also a railway section that goes on for a good while without any **** checkpoints, honestly started to get annoying doing the same section over and over again whilst the section piles more on top of itself. Middensis a VERY odd game. Continuing the binge of wild / surreal games I came across this one, another RPG maker game alike Hylics and OFF.Playing the game majority of the time I was really really confused, things were happening and I had no ounce of an idea where the story was going, if it even had one. Though the game had some difficulty, it wasn’t a long game just passing the 2 hour mark. You play as a character called Time Nomad, a guy who died and “whose culture died”. At the start of the game you’re greeted to a sentient gun who you use to just… kill **** ig, he warns you three times if you’re sure you wana continue with her (genie / the gun). The game is set in an afterlife / scrapyard of collective universes, where the remains of dead and forgotten are left to rot; a description that kinda makes sense once you play the game as the enemy designs are soooo wild, so detailed and very artsy. Out of all of the RPG maker games I’ve played, this had the most intense art direction as the amalgamations of character designs felt collage ish and were really detailed, so credit is due for that 100%. The game is just surreal af so all the characters are wacky, artsy, biblical, mechanical, humanoid, mutated, mythological etc… it’s such a strange art direction and I **** with the mood it presents. The combat system is okay, you unlock abilities as you kill stuff / unique enemies, though you start early on with your three companions, they’re spirit-like, cyclops phantom ish blobs of matter; (om, yam and… fig I forgot the other name idfk-). You, a knight, and three matter blobs are a strange combo for characters indeed, and the enemies you go against are stranger, all that plus a sentient gun makes for such an odd game, nothing makes sense and it’s all out of **** game confused me for ages until you encounter / kill enough enemies, then you unlock the ability to kill yourself, which sends you to the final realm and then you beat the final boss after going through a bunch of really difficult enemies. Won’t spoil the end cus why tf- The confusion of just grinding random **** and talking to wacky characters, all of which say weird one liners (some of which apparently being the final words of serial killers), and all of which you can just decide to murder using Z. Some trigger a battle and some just perish, most enemies die with a meowing noise which is… odd. A lot of decisions here *seem* random but I cannot be sure, it definitely all seems really random for the sake of being a surreal game, but that’s what I came for in the end. My main gripe is there not being much sense of direction, gameplay wise and story wise. The main parts of the story come from what the gun has to say, which isn’t a lot until the last sequence. Even then once you find the love train you can travel to any area in the game. It’s basically a big map to explore and stumble upon random stuff, it’s designed well though despite just being a killing spree. It leaves a lot to ponder about and left me wondering what the **** was actually gonna happen. But as short as the experience was I can’t complain. The music choices were ominous and weird, very liminal and not a lot going on, a lot of loops and not a lot of variety in battle themes. I swear you hear the same looping battle theme majority of the game and it only changes three times in the final area and at the final boss, just think it could’ve been adapted further. The victory toot kinda irritated me too, was just awkward but… I guess that’s nomad’s cultureWeird **** game with a surreal as **** art style. Cool though and I’m glad I played because that surreal wonder was hypnotic and kept me interested

Fatum Betula, or fate birch, is about a tree of life or something- You’re set to fill the water that feeds the roots of said tree with different liquids, these determine the future of humanity blah blah blah. Before we get to that, the game itself is quite beautiful and artsy, set in a ps1 aesthetic (which is captured quite well), some nicely designed characters and a cryptic setting. Unlike the other games I’ve played recently, of which are quite wacky surreal, this is more normal in a way. The setting is surreal in a cryptic sense; the atmosphere is liminal and the fog is dense, sometimes it’s hard to see the entire map (each location is somewhat small anyway). Playing the game I was expected to encounter a jumpscare or something cryptic just because of the atmosphere, but it never *truly* does. I got spooked towards the end, one of the sequences is surreal yet simple, it’s all tangible and real conventions but there’s something unsettling about the moon phase, or the redness of the sea (yadda **** as simple as the game is I think the aesthetic and the art is what drives this home, it’s clean and pretty and simple and effective and i love how this game works. The endings are all somewhat philosophical, thinkers, no matter the outcome there’s always some twist or downside to your “choice”. The way the puzzles and choices are setup are interesting and unexpected, it’s all about thinking ahead and wondering what works with what. You’re set a bunch of random levels that are randomly arranged / generated (I think) and are given a set pool of 9 ish items to utilise from the game. It randomises 3 of those to use per level and mixes them up until you manage to beat the puzzle. The idea is really neat and the items in game are super fun and unique, you basically make your own solutions to a (sometimes) possible puzzle. Finished playing “OFF” last night, honestly a **** class RPG (which Kate narrated for me, really drove home the tone of the game thank you) I knew a bit about the game going into it as Kate explained the plot and a hint of the ending a while back, but nothing truly prepared me for what this game had to **** game really is like catching lightning in a bottle, it has so much charm and creativity, it’s cryptic and horrifying; not in the scary jumpscare sense, but it’s existential as ****. It tackles morality better than any game I’ve ever played, after finishing the game (and pondering throughout playing) it made me think for a good while, it’s one of those games at really makes you think and get excited for. I think the writing and pacing of OFF is perfection, it leaves enough mystery and weirdly cryptic dialogue to make you ponder, but it doesn’t spoon feed you “deep lore”, it’s incredibly humble in its writing and perfectly cryptic enough to give you chills. It’s also good at not going overboard with that dread factor, there’s enough weirdness, twists and turns that makes it a perfect experience. There’s so many clever choices made in this game that I’ve not seen before in a game or many forms of media, it’s hard to explain without spoiling but the game is full of surprises and I adore how it is executed. The dilemma between the batter and the judge is clever and makes you ponder what is morally right the more you uncover about this odd world, there’s also a bit of 4th wall breaking throughout the game too which isn’t some edgy “look at how clever this is lol”, but it’s more a necessary plot point about the game as a whole; as in if you, the player (who is acknowledged by some characters as an entity puppeteering the batter), has a role in the outcome of this world by simply not playing the game is a decision therefore what is to come cannot happen. I love turn based combat and as simple as it is it’s so cool, the art in the battle sequences are ace, it’s a driving point for the game and makes each encounter interesting. The system works really well, it’s balanced and the wording of the battles makes sense, it’s all quite ominous how a lot of this game is written. Even the dialogue from the batter is flat and unnerving, he spouts some terrifying one liners at times. The music too is, **** wacky, and it works so well for the atmosphere of the world around you and the battle sequences. The final part of the game is where the music drives that terror factor home. I could go on but I’ve said enough so I’ll conclude with this. Some people may not agree or see it, but from experiencing OFF like this it feels like such a special game, it was intriguing from start to finish with a sick world, neat game mechanics, great OST, and brilliant writing. This game is simple but works so **** well, it’s perfect in my eyes and I can see why it’s such an inspiration ****. Love it so much, I’ll definitely play it again one day.

Played a bunch more games over the past week or so, so imma write a bit about themPlayed “before your eyes” at toms cus he has vr n whatnotAll I had going into this is the selling point of the blink mechanic and the fact it might make me cry, so I didn’t really know what to ****’s hard to describe anything about the game without spoiling it so I’ll say this; the way the mechanic of blinking pushing forward time is really innovative and clever, works amazingly in VR. It’s about the POV / life **** who grows older and you see his life unfold. The start of the game you’re greeted with a ferryman who wants to hear about your life and then it’s shown blah blah, there’s some twists and turns at some point in the game yadda… basically the way the story is executed and reveals is so clever and I think the medium of vr with this blink mechanic drives the emotion home because, with blinking enabled, you forcefully don’t want to miss anything important, you wana not accidentally blink and miss out on a chunk of the story. I think playing the game with it enabled works well (I was advised to turn the mechanic off but I think it worked better having that experience). Metaphorically the “blink and you’ll miss it” idea is neat, for a story driven game you don’t wana miss out on a chunk of the person’s life or story and you don’t know what’ll happen next in their life. It’s an interesting and very emotional game, from the segments with the ferryman to the sound design, writing and voice acting it’s all ace and very emotional not only at the end, but just throughout as it throws around many heartbreaking moments so well, the littlest things are so sad to hear.Great short game and I get the hype for it. Only issue I had wasn’t the game itself but just the vr being uncomfortable on my head after a while-9/10

As for the enemies and 90% of what you see in the game is total bollocks, but the bollocks are nice and juicy. I don’t play many rpg’s but I do like them. Manoeuvring the **** landscapes of hylics 2 is a challenge in itself and I like how **** yet imaginative everything is. The gameplay loop and combos of special attacks and charges up between your team members are actually more engaging compared to the first game’s combat style. Post void is a very very fun, very fast-paced FPS arcade ish game. Short but really fun and gets intense on the later levels. Now is one of my games that I love to pick up and blast through some deranged looking enemies with an uzi that bounces off the wall and explodes in impact, what a game. I love pew pew shoot things 7.7/10

Finally got round to actually beating an RPG, last proper game was No Skin & that was a while ago now. Been loving a lot of weird / surreal RPG’s recently, your off, hylics whatnot. This has been on my radar a while and I’m so glad I played it cus my god, I’ve loved this game sm.I love how it combines horror / survival elements in ways I’ve really not seen before in a game like this. For starters the main appeal is the art and atmosphere of the game, the way the pixel art is made with the vibrant colours, they’re all so moody and dingy but in such a creative and visually appealing way. All the sprites are amazing to look at and the way they change and morph in battle is really cool to see. There’s the odd animation and cutscene that is just the cherry on top, the art direction of this game is just top notch, high quality **** stuff. The music on floors can be really moody and groovy at times, a tone-sweeter but also embraces the goofy and comedic nature of the characters and occurrences. It certainly has a sense of humour and a personal art direction. The game itself is also incredibly well crafted. The battle system is great and the way you can recruit different members on your team, whether that be by change they come to your door or you find them in the depths of a basement, I love how different each character is and how differently they all work. My roster consistent of a toothy kid and two alt / goths. The kid had a really interesting mechanic where he could grow more teeth for a turn thus increasing his damage for the next. As he levelled up he gained more special abilities and combos with this and the damage became insane. The other two had very interesting abilities where they’d wait a turn to make a potion to be used in combat, sometimes it can backfire and damage your own team but they’re characters you have to take that risk for. That being said I think the game itself is incredibly replayable, there’s a lot you can miss and a lot of content you can lock yourself out of. You can either sacrifice a baby rat for a disk to unlock a door, orrr sacrifice your own arm to let the baby live which will grow up and then join your team, the downside being not being able to handle bigger weapons and only wield either a pistol or a one-handed melee weapon. I find that option so interesting and how things have actual in-game consequences. Speaking of, never trust anyone. No matter what npc you talk to you always have the option to run or kill them too, even if they’re a shop vendor or a character needed to progress, the option is there… you could have someone on your team only for them to betray you.I also love how detailed the dialogue and narration is. You’d unexpectedly go to a dark screen after interacting with something or someone and then it’d describe basically body horror. It’s not your “there was a lot of blood and you die lol”, nah this is like some detailed detailed body horror descriptors, the fact they’re used as game over screens now and then for making an unexpectedly wrong choice is just so interesting. There’s so much to this game that I feel I NEED and WANT to replay it just to see other options and **** like that.Really impressed with this game and it blows a lot of other rpg’s out of the park. Great art direction, amazing story, great dialogue, solid music, and fun to play, has a difficulty but it’s very beatable and quite lengthy if you play it thoroughly (though you kinda have to to progress anyway)
