World of Warcraft: Shadowlands2

Some of the art and music are good. Everything else is garbage. This is BFA 2.0 complete with **** loads of time gating, layered complicated unnecessary systems and hellacious mandatory grinds. Played 56 hours AFTER hitting lvl 60 cap and never even came close to getting required CHORES done. Forget about alts completely. Understand that most of the mandatory systems have no catch-up mechanics so you are permanently behind everyone else. Couple this with the absolute worst PvE community in gaming and you have a **** you should avoid at all costs (for me about $300 I'd love to have back since they pushed the release back a month and it's still buggy PoS).

Alan Wake10
Sep 18, 2013
The best story telling in recent memory. Sometimes the controls **** but the ambiance, careful style progression and suspense punctuated by real fear your batteries will run out on your flashlight makes it amazing and totally worth it. I usually avoid console ports religiously but I'm glad I picked this gem up on sale.

Good combat, 0 depth, dying community and low population, terrible class balance. This is a language port from Korea. I played for awhile before it went F2P. Not worth a 2nd look.

Alan Wake's American Nightmare2
Sep 18, 2013
Total. Disappointing. ****. The original game has some of the best writing and best story lines I've ever seen in nearly 30 years of PC gaming and to have this come out with the same name just tarnishes how good the REAL Alan Wake is. The ambiance is gone, the forced playing the same areas a million times over and over is lame and unlimited ammo refill shelves that auto-refill totally removes any threat of 'oh I'm out of ammo' which was one of the fear factors of the original. I've heard people defend this game by saying it was just some after through for xbox or whatever. That's a lame excuse.

I never played the original game and have only played this version so for me it's good. Games take a long time to set up and execute which means it's kind of limited in how often it can be played. A decent 4x RTS game but not turn based. Best on sale. I wouldn't pay $40 for this like people did. My biggest complaint would be it's pretty much just blob up your forces in to one big fleet and sweep the map but then I'm a newbie and have only played on lower difficulty settings with few opponents.

More of the same as the original only perhaps a bit more difficult. Still fun but not much new that jumps out and pulls you in. I did not play co-op and prefer single player and that experience is perhaps a bit below the original for reasons given by others.

Meh. I played CS when it was in Beta and mod in the 90's and played it for years in to Source. This doesn't show any real improvements and appears to be just cashing in on the name. I admit I'm tired of the series but the maps are even still the same. This is one old horse.

Guild Wars 29

An amazing MMO especially for buy to play. I still play WvWvW occasionally and the ability to level via pvp was a godsend. The gem store is kind of annoying but tastefully done and you can easily get gold from 3rd party sites cheaper than you can by converting from gems if you want it but you don't NEED it. 10 times better than the original GW which I hated.

Borderlands 29
Sep 18, 2013
The same great style of Borderlands, good voice acting, good characters, etc. I actually played this one all the way through unlike the original. Unfortunately that's not enough to unlock all the skill trees and apparently they expect multiple replays. Mulitplayer jumping in and out of games is pretty seamless and well done. There are exploits to let you hold on to your premium chest keys and wikis with all the codes if you're in to gear hoarding.

Torchlight II9
Sep 18, 2013
Another great game from some of the original Diablo developers who started their own company. I'm not the biggest fan of the art style but if you liked Torchlight this is more of the same with some cookies. Multiplayer is a nice addition but not amazing.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown8
Sep 18, 2013
I have never played another game in the X-COM series and don't have much experience with turn and squad based tactical games like this but I was not disappointed with X-COM. The ant-farm approach to the base management mini-game is a nice touch and killing aliens is fun. Save your games a lot and go for satellite coverage above all else and you'll do fine, the game is hard even on easy (at least for me).

The Lord of the Rings Online: Riders of Rohan0
Sep 18, 2013
I played LOTRO for a long time a few years ago. The developers are some of the worst in the history of the world and have basically made the war of the ring about pie eating contests and fluffy BS. PvP is completely abandoned and has languished untouched forever. The game was utterly ruined by going F2P.

Chivalry: Medieval Warfare7

Get it on sale and it's worth it. Combat is kind of clunky and the controls aren't great but it is fun and has a lot of moves you can try to pull off. I prefer the archery/crossbows myself. It's entirely possible to one-shot people with well placed attacks.

Ridiculously over hyped. Once again, I got this in a Steam sale but I was hesitant to buy because I don't have a good game pad and prefer mouse/keyboard. I had a DEV tell me in the forums that this game is totally fine with mouse/keyboard; it's not. Controls are crap with mouse/keyboard. Good art style. I guess great if you're *really* in to stealth games it might be worth it but it's just a forgettable sidescroller for me and not a particularly good one.

Primal Carnage4
Sep 18, 2013
Great concept. Poor execution. Still fun for 5 minutes. I got this deeply discounted in a Steam sale and have only played it twice since then. Pouncing on people with raptors and whatnot is fun but the lack of depth or game modes or really anything of substance makes it dull fast. I played Dino D-Day longer, but not much longer. It's too bad a AAA dev won't throw $100 mil at one of these games and make it actually good.

The Walking Dead: A Telltale Games Series7
Sep 18, 2013
I got the series in a steam sale minus the 400 days episode. So far I've only played the first episode but it's pretty compelling. This is a point and click adventure/interactive movie but the story is fairly well done thus far. I watched the first season the TV show though and there is some overlap in the characters. The controls are awkward and have caused me to make decisions I didn't intend a few times as a result. They're not re-mappable and all of them are not listed in the menus so I took off a point for that.

BioShock Infinite9
Sep 18, 2013
A Great game, a worthy successor to the original, and better than Bioshock 2. I love the detail and love that went in to this. You can even look up a lot of the names of things and see that they picked them because of real life historical influences and there are many parallels to real history here. There are supposedly alternate endings but I have only seen one.

Got this in the summer steam sale. I think I would have given this a higher score if I hadn't just beaten Bioshock Infinite right beforehand. Comparatively, this one nowhere near as compelling, especially where the story is concerned. I didn't finish the game out of boredom and having gone to play something else.

I honestly don't understand all of the hype around this game or its main competitor LoL (which I haven't played). I got in to the Beta for this out of curiosity having never played a MOBA game before. I think the game would be more like an 8 if all of the items were removed as they seem be the main cause of heavy imbalances. It hasn't pulled me in, having only one map is a downer, it's free, the art work is good but I don't play much because its repetitive and gets dull fast *shrug*. Oh, if it's not to late to add, people calling it the "deepest most meaningful pvp experience" is just wrong. Play a full loot pvp game for meaningful pvp (like EVE).

I pre-ordered on the last day before release. This game is NOT worth its $60 asking price. $20-$30 max; especially with its F2P cash shop. It definitely will be at this level by the STEAM Summer Sale and more like $5-15 thereafter. It has some interesting elements for a shooter, I'm not really in to coop shooters so some of it is new to me. I can't shake the feeling that it's Rift lite though, lots of the same textures and similar artwork in places none of the awesome skill trees or anything. Terrible Console UI, *TONS* of bugs (loses keybinds, crash to desktop, disconnected from server constantly, have to turn off voice comm manually EVERY TIME YOU PLAY). PvP Is decent, maybe a little twitchy for my taste, matchmaking is okay and it's still new enough to have fast matches. You can level via PvP which I like. Arkfall events Rifts. The blatant Dodge Charger product placement is repulsive. This game is okay for a quick play, running over npcs in vehicles is fun for awhile. Cheesy single-player game style cut scenes. Main story line is pretty lame. Kind of reminds me of SWTOR here with out the "choices"; worse voice acting. Borderlands/Fallout this is NOT. I have an enormous amount of MMO experience; this isn't an MMO.
