Army of the Dead is a shocking disappointment and this is coming from someone who likes Snyder’s work especially the recently released “Snyder Cut” of Justice League. The opening prologue was not impressive in my opinion, choppily edited scenes with weirdly large fonted credits that take up the whole screen to where you cannot see anything behind them. I am also very disappointed that Snyder fired comedian Chris D’elia from the film over matters that have become very overblown, a young woman came out a couple months ago and claimed a sexual assault happened nearly a decade ago with no evidence. Another anonymous woman claimed that D’elia had access to pornographic images of minors, again with no evidence. D’elia has since been exonerated in court and beat all these false claims but that matters little to Snyder who appears to be more into virtue signaling than making entertainment, especially since his ill advised endorsement of Joe Biden. D’elia’s replacement, Tig Notaro, a short 50 year old lesbian woman who were expected to believe is a grizzled chopper pilot is absolutely dreadful. All her scenes were filmed in front **** screen and you can definitely tell, with dialogue that was obviously written with another actor in mind. Other than Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy) as the leader of the mercs after the vault and Hiroyuki Sonata (Mortal Kombat) as the tycoon who hires him and his team, the film is horribly miscast. Despite working on the ensemble Justice League, there are really no notable or even known actors in the film. With a story that requires an Expendables level cast, Snyder instead casts short and skinny women to fill out a team of military trained mercenaries. Asking me to suspend my disbelief for mutant zombies is one thing, expecting me to believe that a 5 foot nothing 120 pound woman is as reliable in a combat situation as a 6 foot 200+ pound man is just ridiculous and Snyder should know better.

The Alex Kurtzman directed reboot of "The Mummy" is a lot of fun. Normally, I do not care for Kurtzman as he wrote some of the most underwhelming to flat terrible modern blockbusters including films like "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen", "Star Trek: Into Darkness", and "The Amazing Spider-Man 2". However, "The Mummy" in my opinion is much better than all those movies though that's not saying much. Tom Cruise is definitely in his element here, he wears all the action and stunts like a perfect fit glove and carries much of the script with just his charisma. The new "Mummy" played by Sofia Boutella from "kingsman" and "Star Trek: Beyond" is both sexy and scary, more so on the former but she can chew scenery more so compared to Arnold Vosloo's Imhotep and Jet Li's Dragon Emperor from the Brendan Fraser led films. Now for those "Critic" reviews, a 16% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 34 Meta Score... give me a break the movie isn't THAT bad, yeah i'm a little bias cause I enjoyed it more so than many others but as a franchise starter it is most definitely better than last years fumbled "Ghostbusters" reboot (73% on RT), David Ayer's botched DCEU effort "Suicide Squad" (25%), and it is leagues above Ridley Scott's franchise destroying "Alien: Covenant" (71%). The reviews for "The Mummy" are a gross over reaction by modern "critics" who are either much to harsh on would be franchise starting blockbusters (Ex. King Arthur: Legend of the Sword) or far too forgiving on Nostalgia driven revamps (Ex. Jurassic World). Thankfully, This new "Mummy" does not rely on the past movies to set it up as it seeks out it's own cinematic world via the "Dark Universe". Yeah I know that "Ghostbusters" set up it's "Ghost Corp" before crashing and burning, but I feel that as a starting point, this world still has some interesting layers to unwrap.

Guy Ritchie is still in top form for "King Arthur: Legend of the Sword". Charlie Hunnam channels both inner strength and charisma as Arthur Pendragon, which he knocks out of the park. There really was not a lot i didnt like about this movie, with the scathing "critic" reviews and horrid box office you would think this would be one of the worst movies ever. Well if you thought that then be ready for a surprise. With a rich lore filled story packed with some of the best special effects i've seen in big blockbusters, "King Arthur" is by far the best movie about Arthurian legend.

I'd be lying if i said i haven't been looking forward to seeing this movie since it was announced. I remember seeing the Peter Jackson movie in theaters nearly 12 years ago and the movie blew my young mind. Now, director Jordan Vogt-Roberts (Kings of Summer) not only must reboot the titular ape, but also set up future films in the "Monsterverse". As a long time Kong-fan and amateur critic, i can say that he has succeeded. 'Kong: Skull Island' is the first great blockbuster of 2017, with a loaded cast and spectacular effects, 'Kong' also does what 2014's 'Godzilla' failed to do.

Critics have been out for blood in every movie that Ben Affleck has involved himself in lately. First came the unjustified hate that came to "Batman V Superman" which lead to the corporate mishandling of "Suicide Squad" which would have been trashed either way. Then the slick but flawed action thriller "The Accountant" premiered and received more critical distaste. The difference with "Live By Night", is that the critics finally got what they wanted, a bad release date and an overblown budget caused the loss of up to $70 Million for WB. It's interesting how after just one super hero movie, Ben is already being treated the same way as someone like Michael Bay, or Roland Emmerich. "Live By Night" is the best gangster tale i have seen since Michael Mann's "Public Enemies".

Mel Gibson finally returns after an unjust hiatus, and we finally get to see what we have been missing out on. 'Hacksaw Ridge' is a fantastic, brutal war story about Desmond Doss (Andrew Garfield), a conscious objector, who refuses to carry a weapon after a traumatic experience in his life. At the core of the movie, its about faith, despite all the blood and carnage, it's a very christian film. "Help me get one more.." Doss prays, "Just help me get one more.." as he crawls through the grime and corpse filled landscape, like a saint going through the gates of hell. Yet, he saves 75 wounded soldiers without firing a single shot. 'Hacksaw Ridge' is in my opinion, the best movie of the year.

After two movies in the rebooted franchise, 'Beyond' actually feels like a progression in the story of the USS Enterprise as in it does not waste time reintroducing the characters we all know and gets straight to the story and the action. Gore Verbinski's 'The Lone Ranger' is one of the most overlooked and under rated movies to come out in the past few years. Armie Hammer is memorable as the titular character, who evolves from a mild mannered city lawyer to a rogue dispenser of western justice aided by a Native American outcast. Tonto, a character that Johnny Depp makes into his own, is also a refreshing satire on the "Noble Savage". I would also say Depp's controversial performance as Tonto is much more nuanced to counter Quentin Tarantino's more cynically written, blaxploitation-inspired characters in films like 'Django Unchained' & "Hateful Eight". But while Quentin took inspiration from the drive-in classics of the Grindhouse era for his western themed films, Director Gore Verbinski attempts to emote the brisk, adventuresome, zest of Sergio Leon's "Duck You ****!" while also infusing it with the modern novelties of a big budget and big effects. "The Lone Ranger" is both a wonderful homage to the western genre as well as a genuinely entertaining tale of the Wild West itself.

The Critics are wrong on this one, way wrong. 'Batman V Superman' is in my opinion one of the best movies based off comics in recent memory. Especially when compared to the last phase of Marvel movies which ended with a thud in last years 'Avengers: Age of Ultron'. The film is triumphant in it's visual storytelling from director Zack Snyder, with deep and philosophical writing to support it, no doubt in part to academy award winning screen writer Chris Terrio who penned 'Argo' back in 2012 with Ben Affleck. Speaking of Batfleck, he gives a monumental performance as a world weary Bruce Wayne and an even grittier Batman then what we have seen before, even better than Christian Bales portrayal in the Christopher Nolan directed 'Dark Knight' trilogy if i may add. As a launchpad to a Cinematic Expanded Universe, I am very excited for what is held in store for the soon to be brought together 'Justice League'.

The first 20-30 minutes of "Fant4stic" are actually pretty good, but not many people will say that. This movie could have been decent if only FOX would have let Josh Trank make his damn movie instead of cutting out half the damn movie and replacing it with halfass reshoots that were not even directed by Trank or included in the script he wrote, and then locking him out of editing. Seriously FOX what the **** was wrong with you ? It's obvious Trank had a decent movie going for the first act which i assume were scenes he filmed before you re-shot 75% of the movie leading into an almost non-existent 2nd act then straight to a tacked on 3rd act. It's **** how FOX tries to justify their ****ery too, like "His pet dogs trashed a trailer" or "Trank & the cast didn't like each other very much", then there are these baseless claims that Trank would arrive on set Drunk and then proceed to shout obscenities at the cast & crew. Here is what i believe happened, Trank, from the start was not making an average cape movie. His idea was a Science Fiction Thriller in the vein of a Cronenberg Body-Horror film (the way they get their powers are similar to the way Brundlefly happens) that just so happened to include the FF characters and yes that would call for a "dark" tone. then while he was filming or finishing up filming, FOX realized that Fant4stic wasn't gonna be like Marvel's The Avengers so they turned on Trank then the media lead a smear campaign against him, blaming him for a film in theaters that he technically did not do.

"Genisys" while not as brilliant as the first two films, is a vast improvement over the 3rd & 4th movies. Arnold Schwarzenegger proves he is still capable of pulling off being a Cybernetic Organism and steals every scene he is in & both Emilia Clarke and Jason Clarke gave surprisingly good performances as Sarah Connor and John Connor though i will say that Jai Courtney won't win any new fans as Kyle Reese. The newest and long awaited entry into the Jurassic Park franchise has a lot of things going for it. Filled with WOW moments and callbacks to the 1993 Spielberg directed film (Dr. Wu is back, the night vision goggles, the same jeeps), as to say "move over JJ Abrams there is a new Spielbergian in town and he ain't Gareth Edwards !". This should be the sequel we've been waiting for right ? well that just depends on YOUR expectations. For me though personally the B-Movie story and the pseudo science behind the new (not really a) dinosaur is terribly ludicrous making Jurassic World another casualty to the phrase "Leave your brain at the door". But that doesn't mean it's not "fun" at least in some parts, Chris Pratt plays Raptor wrangler Owen Grady who (along with his raptors) acted as the glue that held this monster of a movie together since the other characters (with the exception of Masrani and Dr. Wu) were badly written. Even Bryce Dallas Howard couldn't make her part believable because her character was the typical "i'm a stuck up business person that tries to suppress my human emotions" then toward the end becomes "i'm no longer stuck up because my emotions were brought out by the plot happening and now i'm in love with Owen even though there was almost no buildup to the relationship". I will reluctantly give a pass to the child actors in this movie even if their reactions to some situations were questionable and the out of nowhere "our parents are getting divorced" conversation that didn't go anywhere was random like most of their dialogue. But we can't pay attention to that because obviously the 4 writers of this movie didn't because the kids were created so that the audience could go with them and see the attractions of Jurassic World and that's a somewhat justification. The not too shabby 3D and the D-box seat I was in made the film more enjoyable amplifying the experience of it's strengths, the sound and the effects. Overall, It wasn't as great as the hype machine made it out but it's not as dreadful as the last 2 sequels making this movie a brass knuckled gut-puncher with the inscribed words "It's Alright" embedded into your stomach like so many summer blockbusters before it.

The new installment into the Marvel "MCU" canon seemed like the franchise was taking a step forward but instead took 2 steps back. In terms of story, nothing is accomplished here, the stakes are not that high because we all know that no one of importance will die or else there wouldn't be a dozen more of these movies, the humor and quips are fine at first but after awhile it just seems forced and when the tone is set for seriousness it's jarring to see jokes in every line of dialogue. Another problem in the movie is also Marvel's biggest weakness, Villains. Ultron, while brilliantly played by James Spader seemed like a threat at first but he and his army of disposable robots are defeated very easily even when some of our heroes only have a Bow and Arrow or Pistols. The film's story regresses as it goes on, taking breaks between plot progressions even when there is no action, trailer like scenes are inserted in the 2nd and 3rd acts to set up the next 4 of these movies and doing so just takes away the story of this movie and makes it seem like $330 million dollar preview of coming (and distant) attractions. Very sad time to go in a Marvel movie with expectations especially after the raising of the bar thanks to Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy, like i said this movie should have been a step forward in the franchise but it took 2 steps back instead.

"Lockout" is a movie by a studio that decided to make a script by throwing the scripts of past blockbusters into a barrel and grabbing chunks randomly until there was a unfinished script to film. At times the movie has a brush of the feeling **** summer blockbuster movie but trades it for over the top action that seems cartoon like in a movie that demands realism. Guy Pierce is great as the hero but with dialog that goes on to long, the hero is a bit too dis- interested in the happenings around him. Mix that in with some quick editing, useless over the top violence, and yet another sci-fi movie race against the big bang at the end, and you have a missed opportunity. I was let down by 'Blackhat', a movie from one of my favorite directors (Michael Mann) that seemed to have an interesting story that had relevance in the real world from the wake of the recent Sony hacks and the rise in cyber crimes that are perpetrated more and more in recent days. However, the plot moves at an excruciatingly slow pace that would challenge even the most attentive viewer from falling asleep. There are multiple scenes that have no importance to the story that should have been cut out, it's like the movie was still on the editing table when it was sent to theaters. There are a few good things about it, the gunfights were gritty and non exaggerated proving that Mann can still do decent gun play that is more accurate opposed to the infinite clip that we are used to seeing in many other movies, the cinematography is also very good and it was really nice to just look at the beautiful landscapes and backgrounds of the locations they filmed in Hong Kong and Jakarta. The acting was a very mixed bag considering most of the main characters are miscast i mean come on Thor as a hacker come on, Viola Davis was the best part of the movie as the no nonsense Carol Barrett and it seemed she was the only one trying here. My main fret with this movie is the Antagonist, he is never given the treatment that past Mann antagonists had. In 'Collateral' we had Tom Cruise give an excellent performance as Vincent, and in 'Heat' Robert DeNiro gave another fantastic performance as Neil McCauley. What both of these characters have in common is that they are written terrifically. In Blackhat, not so much. The antagonist is not only miscast, but is written without an objective and there is no reason given for him to cause destruction other than 'just because'. Blackhat is a competently directed but slackly written thriller that will most likely bore audiences than thrill them.

So, they're heroes in a half shell? With sloppy direction from Jonathan Liebesman (Battle Los Angeles) and writing my barely year old nephew could have written, the Michael Bay produced 'Ninja Turtles' is the cinematic equivalent of taking out the trash. It's hard to look at because they had the great idea of making the whole movie a super saturated mix of green and orange. In eighty percent of the movie you can barely tell what is happening on screen because Liebesman's ugly infatuation with shaky cam makes the action with the turtles actually doing ninja stuff so extremely hard to watch that if you were to have seen this in theaters you would probably puke in your seat. But the reason i hated this more than Transformers is because of the **** levels of product placement, there are multiple scenes set up just to sell a brand. For example, Pizza Hut has a whole 3 and a half minute commercial IN THE MOVIE dedicated to their "Novantanove Formaggio, The 99-cheese pizza!" and the whole scene is just Splinter praising Pizza Hut's mediocre Pizza. Elysium is a very good hard 'R' action movie packed with Mech suits, badass guns like the modded Ak-47 blowing apart robots with explosive bullets and the 'Chemrail' that literally tears apart it's target, when the villains face gets blown off by a grenade you get the idea that theres some good stuff in here. Matt Damon as the main character 'Max' is good but every time sharlto Copley shows up on screen as the villain 'Kruger', he completely chews the scenery along with a thick South African accent and an assortment of tricks (or bombs) up his sleeve to take down his targets. One of my favorite giant monster movies, what i like about it is that it takes an original approach to the Giant Monster or 'Kaiju' genre that it's from the point of view from an everyday bystander just trying to survive the attack with those close to him. Sure the shaky camera can be annoying at times but there is a reason for that, in almost every other cut there is a secret or easter egg, or clue and it can go as far as the inspiration for the film (like the king kong image in the end that you can see if you watch it by frames) or clues for the film itself. The monster was my favorite part of the movie, 'Clover' is an original creature design that is sadly being knocked off in a lot of movies today like in the new 'Godzilla' the Female MUTO moves alot like the monster in this movie and even a few years back with 'Super 8' which was also done by JJ Abrams the monster was really just a smaller version of this one. The acting is not as shabby as a lot of reviewers would let you believe, sure there are scenes of the characters going "OH MY GOD, ARE YOU SEEING THIS, OH MY GOD!" but then again that would probably be my reaction if i saw the statue of liberty's head thrown in the street. It's a really fun monster romp grounded in reality that I recommend as feature for a night in with friends.

Before Keanu Reeves starred in this years amazing 'John Wick' he was in last years lackluster bomb '47 Ronin'. The movie is boring just plain boring, the acting and story are definitely not any better. The CGI is almost like watching a syfy channel movie but only slightly SLIGHTLY better, the acting from Keanu is extremely wooden even for him and the Japanese cast is given nothing to do with the script they are given. The script, first penned by the writer of the last 3 films in the 'Fast and Furious' Chris Morgan and co-wriiten with the executive producer for 'The Conjuring' Walter Hamada then re-written by 'Drive' writer Hossein Amini. You would think after all those revisions it would be at least an enjoyable messy adventure fantasy retelling of the legendary story of the real 47 Ronin, But your wrong. It's a terribly paced, no thrills, bore fest that is about 2 hours too long. I DO NOT recommend seeing this unless your extremely high or drunk.

The Expendables 3 takes the fun stuff that made the first 2 work (blood, language & gore) and strips most of it away. This sequel takes an dull drag toward the middle with choppily edited fight scenes in the end, forgettable "new" characters, and a PG-13 rating that completely butchers the theater experience. Mel Gibson is the best villain in the series and its terrible he got stuck with this one.

Not only is it visually stunning and has some really beautiful camerawork, but the acting especially from lead star Matthew McConaughey is top notch. in my opinion this is Nolan's most visually appealing film since Inception in the way that there are many and turns throughout the second and third acts and yes this is better than Inception. However, like Inception the third act will lose some people and the consensus is somewhat correct that it does lose it's grasp on trying to be an extremely intelligent film.

Jake Gyllenhaal delivers a terrifically chilling performance in this mesmerizing tale of freelance journalism, Lou Bloom is like a descendant of Robert De Niro's Travis Bickle from Taxi Driver. Nightcrawler functions very effectively as a noir thriller with the city night also being a beautiful sight to see.

Vince Vaughn is so laughable it's his best comedy since "Swingers". This is a pointless remake that is below all other remakes, not only is it guilty of being a shot for shot copy of the Hitchcock classic taking no artistic chances with the material to steer in another direction whether or not it's good but i'd rather see that than the exact same movie the came out in the 60's and the directors reasoning for it just irritates me.

Universal's 'Dracula' Untold was much better than i thought it was gonna be. Like Maleficent, it doesn't completely reboot the character but simply re imagines the character, by the way this way better than Maleficent in my opinion. Knowing this is what Universal wants to use to help kick off their Cinematic Universe (with 'The Mummy' reboot coming in 2016) well that's fine with me because Luke Evans does a good job in the role and the feel i get for it being dark like the Dark Knight Trilogy is alright as far as i'm concerned because it works here probably due to the fact that it's about a darkness seeking, blood ****, vampire. But the movie has some flaws, If you know anything about Dracula (or have at least seen the Coppola version that came out years ago) then you already know how the story ends and the movie is sorta predictable in the third act. But the visuals are really nice and the big battle scenes are really good.

Filled with non-stop hard "R" rated action, Keanu Reeves delivers his best since The Matrix. John Wick is one of the best action movies to come out in the past few years and i hope it does well and we get more good action movies like this.

Iron Man 3 evolves the character Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) from a cocky playboy to a flawed hero. The theme of old demons is apparent when it begins in Switzerland in 1999 new years eve, Tony who was a different person then meets Aldrich Killian (Guy Pearce), a nerdy scientist from AIM (Advanced Idea Mechanics) Tony blows him off after telling him to meet him on the roof leaving him there. Years later after the events of "The Avengers" Tony is a changed man, no longer just as the hero protecting America from terrorists but now frantically building suits trying to keep the ones he cares about safe after going through a wormhole and learning that there is a big and dangerous universe out there. Shane Black directs a good popcorn flick here taking over from Jon Favreau who directed the first two movies, and in terms of story this is much better than Iron Man 2. If you love seeing Tony Stark chew scenery for two hours you'll enjoy this.

Filled to the brim with intense fight scenes and unique bad guys for the protagonist (Iko Uwais) to fight through, the anticipated sequel to Gareth Evan's "The Raid" or "The Raid: Redemption" is better than the first. The action and fight scenes are bigger now that the stakes are no longer in a dingy hotel but in the actual city. You will feel motivated to fight the nearest bully closest to you after watching this.

Not since "Saving Private Ryan" has a war movie engaged me this much, David Ayer does a great job directing a war film that we haven't really seen before. When was the last time you saw a movie from the tank crew's point of view ? Fury is a dark and gritty film that shows the horrors of war in the most truthful way. All the performances were great and the action is tense and well shot. On a side note, that is a real tank they are in throughout the movie.

in terms of plot and it's about as dumb as the first three. But the new and more charismatic cast of human characters(with the exception of a few) eat up the screen whenever they are on. The auto-bots are the best they've been in this then in the whole series and each one is distinguishable. By the way Lockdown is a badass villain and probably the best character in the movie.

Boring and unintentionally funny in a lot of scenes and the doll is completely arbitrary to the plot. Despite one decent sequence involving an elevator "Annabelle" is as porcelain of a movie as the real doll is.
