Divinity: Original Sin II9

Divinity walked so that Baldur's Gate could run. As a frequent, and dare I say, seasoned, player of D&D, Divinity 2 was a breath of fresh air in the high/dark fantasy genre. The game play is simple, to the point, but also has a layer of depth that allows for thorough strategizing and planning. If you like, Baldur's Gate, which I know most do, you'll definitely like divinity 2.

A genuine classic; a pillar for a generally niche genre. Dark Souls 3 will forever be the poster child of the souls and souls-like genre.

Persona 5 Royal10

One of my few 10 out of 10 games that I have played. I don't think I have ever been more emotionally attached to a group of fictional characters than the characters in this game. The way they make the world and story so unique and charming, while making the characters and their problems feel so real is something that I cannot compare to any other videogame that I have played, or any other source of media. P5R has fun mechanics, an engaging and interesting story, beautiful and fun music, and some of the best characters I have seen. All the aspects combined had such a deep emotional and psychological impact on me, that when I finished the game, I had a brand new mindset on my life, the life of those around me, and even the life of those distant for me. This, for me, makes it one of the greatest videogames of all time.

XB3 is such a bold and unique game that from the outside, it seems like it shouldn't work, but it just does. Last 2 installations limits combat to 4 party members, and that at times could feel overwhelming. XB3 has 7, double of last games, and they make it work. They decide to focus its music on a flute, a freaking flute, and wow do they make it work. They make it work extraordinarily well. They present two protagonist that seem so dull and boring, but the emotion and longing that they made me feel makes them work so well. It also helps that the 3rd installation ties so well into the series. The first game focuses on the future, the second in the past, and now they look at the present. Had the beginning progressed just a tad but quicker, this would be a 10/10 game, but there were some pacing issues within.

Elden Ring10

One of my few rated 10 games. While the difficulty has always been a controversial topic regarding Elden Ring, its also a cornerstone to what makes this game so amazing. Yes, being beat down by a single boss over, and over, and over again can at times be frustrating at times, the progress that you see you make, like learning how to dodge certain combos and getting slowly closer to defeating the boss with each life can feel so rewarding. When one does finally overcome the challenges and adversity by finally defeating the boss that's killed you so many times; holy the ecstasy and rush that you feel is incomparable. Seeing yourself progress and overcome adversity is such a key part of this game, and why I thinks its one of the greatest video games of all time. Yes, it has amazing graphics, beautiful world, interesting story and fun mechanic, but all of that takes a backseat to the feeling of pride and relied that one feels as they progress through the game.

NieR: Automata - Game of the YoRHa Edition10
Apr 27, 2025
Is this game perfect? When it comes to normal standards, no. Admittedly, there are features in this game that are sub-par and lack some polishing and fine-tuning. The length of combat is a great example. While the combat is visually stunning, and fun to test and play with with the unique set of weapons and combos (such are platinum games), certain fights can feel like they're dragged out and take too long. You'll hit the same buttons and same combo to kill one enemy. That being said, Nier: Automata is one of, if not the only game to ever be made which breaks the barriers and standards of what video games are. Video games are judged by their mechanics, their stories, their visuals, their music and so and so forth. Nier ignores those aspect and focuses on one crucial thing, "How does it make you feel." Its art. Paintings, music, books, the purpose of so many forms is focused on those engaging with said art and challenging their morals, worldview and emotions. While most if all videogames focus on keeping the players engaged and having fun (or to just make more money for themselves), Nier wants, no, it demands the player to really reflect upon themselves their very way of life. Although this may sound corny, I am completely serious when I say that Nier changed my life for the better. I became a better person after finishing that game. It is art; it is the best game that has ever been released.
