I love how the show’s creator, Chris Lang, captivatingly sketches the lives of four apparent strangers, challenging us to work out what they’ve got to do with the corpse.

Scenarios are handled with nuance and a lack of hyperbole, as you would expect, though given the limited screen time each receives, the outcomes of several feel a little pat and artificial. “Unforgotten” lives on its organic combination of crime drama and well-made soap opera, and Season 6 feels a little diffuse, not as emotionally fraught as earlier seasons in which the suspects were more personally intertwined. But the new season benefits from an increasingly seamless integration of Keenan into the ensemble, and of Jess into the story.

What a find! I don't know why this show isn't more well-known. The writing is so very good, with well-drawn characters (and there are a lot of them). I especially love how it asks big questions along the way, all very organic and rising from what these two investigators and their team unearth about what people are capable of, and what they hide. The two leads are also superb. Nicola Walker's subtle expressions as the questions (big and small) arise match the depth of the writing perfectly. There are no gimmicks here; some of it can initially be difficult to follow, with all the different people and storylines, but rewind if you have to: It'll all be worth it.

Highly intelligent police drama. Nicola Walker is exceptional. This and "Happy Valley" are on a different level from most British TV

Sunny and Jessie have a lot to work through; I don’t doubt they will find some common ground in doing the job properly, whether leading by head (Jessie) or heart (Sunny).

Plausibility is one of the many good things about this show. Oh, the blessed relief of watching a detective drama in which the detectives are free of quirks and the script is free of gimmicks, where colleagues can work together without simmering sexual tension or screaming rows, and where the lead character happens to be a woman without that being A Remarkable Thing.

Chris Lang’s writing seems to have slipped a little below the high standards established in Nicola Walker’s leading role heyday. Yet there’s a Zen-like acceptance to the way that Bhaskar delivers his lines, as if he’s not going to let some leaden dialogue hinder the smooth running of proceedings.

All good detective shows have a penny-drop moment and this one – in which the five new characters we had been introduced to were revealed to be friends with the decapitated man in the freezer – was enough to secure my attention for at least another week. After that, the show will have to work twice as hard to keep me watching.

Another great British crime drama, this time revolving around cold case murders and the clever investigative techniques that are required to solve them. Served with a dash of personal drama for each of the main investigators.

Enjoyed getting to know and understand the new characters. A bit confusing and disjointed understanding the plot and who is who in the beginning. I found the ending very disappointing and confused why the director went this way. Very disappointing and disturbing.. I found Season 5 not as satisfying as previous seasons mostly because of the script and little to no good was had or found in the end. The audience knows the truth, but the detectives fail.
