SummaryNo it's not a revival of Fox's 2008 series of the same name, but a medical drama inspired by Bellevue Hospital where new medical director Dr. Max Goodwin (Ryan Eggold) seeks to return the hospital to its former glory with a staff that includes Dr. Hana Sharpe (Freema Agyeman), ER doctor Dr. Laura Bloom (Janet Montgomery), attending cardiac surgeo... It is as baldly manipulative and corny as heck--the pilot ends with a Coldplay song--and even a little ridiculous. But the actors sell it, and the fact that the action can seem so unlikely oddly just makes it more compelling.

New Amsterdam tends to rather tidily resolve all of its patient crises in these first two episodes. It also can get treacly at times, particularly when Coldplay’s “Fix You” hovers over the closing minutes of the premiere hour. The long-term diagnosis is iffy at best, with the main characters and their cases coming off as not that special or interesting.

Think that new amsterdam is so much better than many other medical series our there and definitely on par with Chicago med.

It’s a fine if unremarkable broadcast network-style series.

New Amsterdam...is not based on one show but every medical drama in TV history going right back to 1954's Medic.

Heartfelt, well-meaning and dull. ... Mr. Eggold has an easy charisma, but ... It all feels too smooth and forgettable.

New Amsterdam makes it clear this isn’t just going to be a regular medical drama. This is going to be a very, very dumb medical drama. ... The show’s stated intent--to be a medical fantasy about doctors actually helping people--is beautifully dumb, but at least it’s occasionally funny.

The best medical dramas have something going for them besides the blood and scrubs. This one is simply dead on arrival.

Finally a medical series that doesn’t entirely fixate on drama between doctors although very present. The new and innovative thinking of the main character “Dr. Max Goodwin” is just that! His bold and straightforward idealism is what other series lack. It gives off a jovial feeling to see someone in a position of power to actually create lasting and effective change.

At first it seemed like it would be a pleasant series period hospital show where the poor guy wins because of the goodness have a nice head doctor period and of course the into the woke environment where every police officer is bad and shoots black kids, gay dad's are beautiful with their Bangladeshi adopted children karma

For the longest time I had been searching for a show to replace House M.D. and for awhile I thought this might be it but somewhere between the first and second seasons they stopped focusing on engaging stories and cases in lieu of making political or social messages in their episodes, I just want a show that pulls me out of current affairs and allow me to forget what's going on in the world but it seems like this show wants to slam your face right in it every 15 or so minutes. The good things it has going is the characters are very engaging and the actors and actresses perform very well in the roles and when they choose to the stories and cases are actually really good, I particularly like Iggy Fromme's character but everytime I start to get just a little immersed he will be "making a statement". It's a long shot but should the writers ever read this, you have a good show obviously it is up to 5 seasons now but if you would just focus on the stories and not the message you are shoving down our throats you would have a great show that could stand toe to toe with other medical dramas so for all the reasons listed I can't give it more than a 3 because as my teachers told me about plays and acting is that a great story makes you forget you aren't part of the story.
