The innovative blend of form, mood and tone in Jane the Virgin continues to be an accomplishment of the highest order. It is envisioned, edited and curated with great deftness and economy, and the fact that it is so entertaining and accessible should not preclude it from being at the center of conversations about the best the medium has to offer.

This one could take off, especially if the humor doesn’t obscure the layers of Jane’s moral journey.

Where the series could get preachy, it's tempered, and above all, the whole thing's just a lot of fun.

The series finds just the right balance, creating a unique place for itself among the current network fare. With its down-to-earth lead character and self-aware, but not self-parodying approach, Jane The Virgin is a breath of fresh air that will hopefully find a strong and loyal fan base.

It's old-school soap stuff to be sure, but at its frequent best, uses old twists in new ways.

Although Jane the Virgin could easily devolve into a frenetic sendup of telenovela cheesiness, it is a remarkably sure-footed, enjoyable dramedy full of strong performances, particularly from Rodriguez.

That the whole pilot doesn't collapse into a pile of rubble is due to Rodriguez--or maybe because Jane is so confoundedly odd you want to see what happens next.

Through Jane's eyes, parenthood seems both delightful and utterly daunting, and her scenes will have you laughing and reaching for the Kleenex at the same time. [16 Oct 2016]

With The Flash, the netlet has gone an impressive two for two in terms of developing new dramas that look poised to stick around for a while.

It's a delightful comedy-drama about a young woman faced with a completely unexpected dilemma, and it's so inherently endearing that I'm very eager to see how the story of Jane and her fractious but loving family unfolds.
