A spiffy new version.

If you're looking for allegorical, intriguing science fiction, this isn't it. If you're OK with rapid-fire, light-hearted dialogue with an occasional dig at politics and culture, this "Doctor Who" is your cup of tea.

Like so much British science fiction, especially Douglas Adams's "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" series, this "Doctor Who" has a goofy, homemade quality; it's less interested in gizmos than in characters.

This remake achieves an Avengers-like balance of cheeky wit amid the cheesiness.

Some of the pop-culture humor and creatures owe a nod to "Farscape," but the camp level is high and can be mighty funny.

It's pretty decent hokum--fast, corny, genial, honest in its schlock.

The real disappointment of the new Who isn't its use of (slightly) slick special effects, though. It's a structural problem: Instead of stretching a storyline across a whole season, each adventure is resolved within a single episode, making this closer to your average detective series.

Doctor Who is definitely my number one favorite tv show, I am a huge fan of Sci-fi and action/ adventure.

I am a Doctor Who fan & also thought Jodie Whittaker was brilliant in Broadchurch. Unfortunately, in casting a female Doctor Who, the new showrunners have underwritten Jodie Whittaker, who is capable of far more challenging scripts. Worse, they seem to have forgotten WHO The Doctor is. He/She makes people better. He/She guides them into better versions of themselves and, sometimes the companions fill that role for The Doctor. And that is what is missing from the new series. Its heart. The soul of The Doctor. Jodie Whittaker is brimming with potential, as are her companions, but they have been failed by the 2 dimensional writing... Take the training wheels off this new team and write scripts worthy of their talent!

I've been a long term fan of Doctor Who, having watched since the 2005 restart, and having since gone back and seen all of the original Who series. For the most part, I absolutely love Doctor Who... However, I'm now torn and very upset with the direction the show has taken. For Series 11, I was very hopeful with the inclusion of a female doctor after the incredible performance of Michelle Gomez as The Master. However, I've been incredibly let down by the terrible writing under this new show runner, increasingly political and over the top feminist messages and mediocre performance by the current doctor Jodie Whittaker. I don't feel her or Chris Chibnal have the sense for what this show was supposed to be about. Every politically correct message slaps you in the face, and feels like every episode they're trying to go down a list of check boxes to make sure they've included various topics. I have also seen a trend toward shaming fathers which I find very offensive given how hard so many fathers work to provide for their families. From the restart to the last iteration of the doctor in Peter Capaldi has been great, but after series 11, I just feel like my time is better spent on other shows that don't try so hard to please 3rd wave feminism at every turn.

This doctor is very disappointing to me, the stories are so boring dull and predictable. They could have made this female doctor smart and strong, but she seems to be wondering what is going on al the time... really disappointed. I was hoping for A interesting female doctor. now its fuel on the fire of people who don't want a female doctor.
