The characters are engaging in their varying degrees of awfulness, and there appears to be plenty of story fodder for years to come.

You don't usually encounter the words "smart" and "soap" in close proximity, but this is one of those exceptions.

Dirty Sexy Money is compelling even when it's not, funny when you're not quite sure it should be, ridiculous in the strangest spots and ultimately addictive if, for no other reason, you want to watch more episodes to find out what kind of beast it is.

Hilarious implausibility, overheated dialogue and enough soap to do several loads of laundry are part of its appeal.

"Six Feet Under's" Peter Krause plays the role with a sense of detachment that represents either the artistic choice of an actor playing it straight amid interminable clowning or the weary resignation of a dude who didn't know what he was getting into.
