The conflict is ambiguous, and the characters are faint. Yet, somehow, I feel like I've witnessed the terrifying origin of *The Little Mermaid*...241221 (1.0)This sequel starts with the sheer childishness of entrusting an entire kingdom to high schoolers, while Maleficent remains relegated to being a pet lizard. Once again, Evie is the true protagonist in my eyes. While dating Doug, she is diligently running her dress shop to save up for a castle, proving she can fulfill her mother's dreams without needing a prince. Meanwhile, Jay has abruptly switched from rugby to fencing for some reason, and a shy Carlos tries to use a "truth potion" to confess to Jane—only for his dog, Dude, to eat it and start **** social dynamics are equally messy. Chad has become the embodiment of petty malice—thieving, gossiping, and obsessed with Carlos's 3D printer—while Audrey is away on vacation. We are introduced to Uma (Ursula's daughter), who runs a fish and chips shop and seethes with jealousy toward Mal, alongside her crew: the flirtatious Harry Hook and the somewhat dim-witted Gil (Gaston’s son). The plot kicks off when Mal, crumbling under the stress of trying to be a "perfect" future queen, flees back to the Isle of the Lost, prompting a royal excursion into the slums.A bright spot is Dizzy, Drizella’s daughter (played by the actress who was Kitty in *To All the Boys I've Loved Before*), who looks up to Evie. However, the acting across the board feels incredibly forced and juvenile, even by old Disney standards. While Evie’s performances outshine Mal’s, the musical numbers lack a "catchy" hook. The introduction of Lonnie is particularly poorly handled; she demands to join the rescue mission and suddenly becomes a leader after a bizarre Chinese-style uniform makeover that feels like a disservice to *Mulan*. The climax is equally rushed: Mal loses her spellbook, Uma seduces Ben for a public "NTR" moment, and a literal dragon-versus-octopus battle is resolved simply by Ben asking everyone to stop. The movie ends with a superficial promise to bring more kids from the Isle, leaving the deeper conflicts entirely unaddressed.
