One of the most authentic, realistic and truly genuine movies I have ever seen! The Script is simply beyond perfect! So much movie can be made with so little plot, given sufficient humanity and dramatic tension. That's the case with Andrew Haigh's eloquent chamber piece.

Naturalistic without being ineloquent, heartfelt yet unsentimental, Weekend is the rarest of birds: a movie romance that rings true.

Like the analogous "Before Sunrise," Weekend manages to ride the line between character study, comedy, drama, and a host of other genres without feeling cramped.

This is a smart, sensitive, perceptive film, with actors well suited to the dialogue. It underlines the difficulty of making connections outside our individual boxes of time and space.

Earnest and understated, Weekend has the intimate look and feel of a two-character stage play that has been opened up -- but only slightly, with minimal addition of supporting players -- for a mostly faithful filmization.

Weekend is an achingly sad and beautiful film about 2 gay guys who meet up over one weekend. Tom Cullen is so devastatingly good that I thought I knew him. The two characters are presented so honestly with all their flaws and insecurities that you are by turn fascinated and hypnotised by the simplicity of the excellent screenplay. When all is said and done at its heart this is a life affirming love story which is not to be missed.

Weekend is probably the most honest **** film since Shortbus. Chris New and Tom Cullen give unnervingly intimate and intricate moments for such a sustained period that the skin begins to anticipate fingertips.

A truly amazing movie. Never have I encountered a more realistic and genuine depiction of romance. The characters are both enchanting, as are their conversations and interactions. New and Cullen are both perfect in their roles, hitting all the right notes. This movie sticks with you, forcing you to come back to it long after the credits have rolled.

I would have rated this much higher had the production values been even modestly better than they were. In the audibility of the characters was annoying. The camera angles and the constant need to show both characters in some type of profiled conversation was even more annoying. There were a few interesting shots that were artiscially inspired. Overall the film had a basic grunge feel about it which suited the characters and the manner in which they found each other. The one thing that really stood out was the dialogue between the two men. While watching it was easy to relate to the conversations they had because they were simply realistic. Someone equated this too Brief Encounter and although the involvement might remind one of Brief Encounter I personally thought this fell far short of that classic.
