A sense of anachronism is what provides the film with its melancholy heart.

A surprisingly enjoyable tongue-in-cheek New York comedy from "Clueless" director Amy Heckerling, Vamps teeters on the brink of not quite working and yet still routinely lands its laughs.

I love this movie! Alicia Silverstone and Krysten Ritter are so cute and funny! Plus it is really smart and heartbreaking. Alot more than you'd expect from ads.

Heckerling also struggles woefully with special effects, but even then, she's capable of pulling off a beautiful sequence where Silverstone remembers a specific city block as it's evolved through the ages. Her shambling little comedy never finds a consistent groove, but it's eager to please, and has the ancient gags to do it.

Charming at times but surprisingly cheap-feeling given the cast Heckerling has assembled.

Make no mistake, Vamps is mostly a misfire, but Heckerling still shows enough flashes of wit and wisdom that she remains hard to entirely dismiss. Don't bury that coffin just yet.

Aging is probably the real theme here, but it's approached sidelong and has no punch. Still, only the nostalgia has any real conviction.

Vamps is commendable, even moving, as a raw-nerve confession of anachronism - but it's also what keeps this strained satire from drawing any real blood.

Fun exploration of the idea of a non human eating vampire community navigating the modern world. The ROM com element is explored in a fun way. Casting is superb.

A surprisingly heartfelt buddy comedy, with the central theme: "When do we hold on to someone we care about, and when do we step aside to make room for something new?" Fittingly set in New York City which is always changing, Silverstone and Ritter bring warmth and light to their undead protagonists. Facing challenges as mundane as a daytime jury duty notice to a supernatural summons, as the audience we care about them because they care about each other. While it is billed as a romcom, the relationship that matters is between two close friends confronted with choices where the easy path is to follow the status quo. Wallace Shawn (known for his "inconceivable" Princess Bride performance) also shows many sides in this film, from a zany Van Helsing vampire hunter to a sympathetic family man. Unfortunately, support runs thin past this point, despite Sigourney Weaver (!) and Malcolm McDowell (!!) trying to craft something interesting with the lines they're given. In general, Vamps suffers from the typical downside of a buddy comedy, which is that the side characters and romantic interests are under-developed. Despite these rough edges, Vamps is a very fun and interesting film. It adds something to the vampire genre- which is not something I expected to say today. Give it a shot, maybe you'll fangs me later.

The film is obviously not a masterpiece, but is far to be bad and unwatchable: taking into account the other films of writer-director Amy Heckerling (Look Who is Talking etc.) it is not expected something worthy of any nomination. The movie is a light romantic comedy, and unpretentious movie, about two vampires, one older (1840) and other "younger" (1990) who live together and their adventures and romantic conflicts in nowdays New York. It features an interesting cast with Alicia Silverstone and Krysten Ritter in the lead roles, besides other known actors such as Sigourney Weaver and Malcolm McDowell (Clockwork Orange The - any movie with him to me is worth watching). The performances are of a light-hearted comedy, with a mocking tone. The film's visual effects are at least basic and do not know whether they were deliberately forced to refer the B horror movies, with hours that they are hilarious... The story unfolds gradually with a meeting between Krysten and another person who I will not name (spoiler) and this event turns to be the main line of the story until a cute end, typical of those light romantic comedies. The jokes are good and funny, but not hilarious. Ends up being a good fun to watch with your wife / fiancee / girlfriend, off course, if she likes this genre of movie.

Sadly this film is a satire about modern culture and technology. The special effects budget also seems to have been slashed last minute and the star studded cast add nothing to the plot.

Awful and a huge waste of time.... It is completely boring and a bad replica of a would be vamp romantic comedy. Watced the first 1/2 hour and the rest on FF. Avoid it at all costs
