Entertaining, engrossing and at times genuinely unnerving, Bruckner’s bad trip is one for horror fans to relish.

The Ritual may start on familiar footing, but trust in David Bruckner's ability to summon some nasty tension and a third act that horror fans will be talking about all year.

I think this was a very innovative movie as far as antagonist design and plot go, as I was **** in right until the very end. The acting was great, the backstory behind the antagonist made sense, and the overarching struggle between the main character and his past and present dilemmas were all connected well without exposing too much and giving away crucial details. This definitely helped to keep the audience guessing. Overall, I recommend this movie wholeheartedly. Ps- My girlfriend was so spooked I couldn't even get her to finish the movie, if that's any indication that it is in fact scary haha.

While thoughtfully done, the entertainment value of this sombre scare fiesta isn’t high. It’s about life’s paths taken and the rituals (and fears) we submit to.

Time Out
If it lacks the originality and sheer muscle of the best horror fare, this does offer an astute take on fragile thirtysomething machismo, and Spall treads a convincingly anguished path towards potential redemption.

Spall is good casting in the lead: miserable, hangdog, humorous and scared, like a handsomer version of Josh Widdicombe. James-Collier is a fierce screen presence: some film-maker needs to find something more for him to do.

The characters wander in baffling circles, but the story soldiers dutifully from beat to beat, scare to scare. It has this going for it — when it comes to offing its characters, The Ritual proves more pitiless than you might expect for a film that has this tony a look.

A British eOne/Netflix production, packs a bunch of boy-bonding lads off into the wilds of Sweden. No “found footage,” but it’s “The Borgholm Witch Project” in the Swedish “Cabin in the Woods,” “Wicker Man,” the works.

Just had to write a review for this film as I really couldn’t fault it. One of the best horror-thrillers I’ve seen in a LONG time. Some might say the beginning or premise is clichéd but the story has quite a few genre twists that will keep you guessing. Great acting, suspense, adventure, intrigue and chills. At times it very much reminded me **** del Toro film! Netflix scored well acquiring this one. Watch it.

I appreciate how much time was taken to establish the close bond between the friends. The seamless transitions to the main character's flashbacks were jarring. Yet, there wasn't enough dread to fully carry the thing along, and the monster reveal was ultimately disappointing.

The movie started well and slowly became pointless and boring, there is hardly anything horrifying and i feel like i have watched this movie a thousand times, in short, there was nothing new here except the writers love to put swearing in every sentence. the ending was even worst than i thought, really they should have thought of something new and creative but it ended up being very pointless i do not recommend this movie its a waste of time

They should've stayed at home drinking tea. You can see the effort they spent with the CGI for a budget movie. If only they had remembered that the plot is part of the movie too. So boring, so goofy, so poor...
