You can tell when someone else is directing. The second installment of 'Millennium' begins with some difficulties. The film initially feels like a B-movie: the cinematography is weaker, the script has uneven moments, and the direction occasionally struggles to carry the story. However, as the narrative progresses, these shortcomings are partially mitigated, achieving greater coherence and effectiveness. Still, the overall cinematography remains the Achilles’ heel of this installment. Interestingly, even with a three-hour runtime, it is impossible to fully convey the complex plot of the book in detail. This issue is not solely due to the length, but largely stems from how the narrative elements are structured. Nonetheless, the film manages to be faithful, engaging, and interesting, providing a clearer understanding of the hidden crimes and offenses. The soundtrack effectively reinforces the tone and context, enhancing the atmosphere of tension and drama. Most performances remain solid, although the secondary characters lack charisma and do not stand out as much as in the first film. Noomi Rapace once again dominates the screen, with a more prominent presence than Michael Nyqvist. The chemistry between them is palpable, despite their limited shared screen time. 'Millennium 2' does not reach the excellence of its predecessor and may seem less visually appealing. Yet it remains effective, entertaining, and compelling enough to keep viewers engaged throughout its three-hour runtime.

I came to know this Swedish film trilogy through its famous American "twin brother", and I believe I was not the only one. Despite international credits, it is unusual for Swedish cinema to be widely publicized. Neither its literature! So I also didn't read the book to judge how the adaptation did it justice, but I do believe those who say it was a relatively faithful adaptation. This film was directed by Daniel Alfredson, who succeeds Neil Arden Oplev. This film is a sequel and follows the logical sequence of events after the first film, “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo”: after a time abroad, Lisbeth Salander, now owner of a small fortune, returns to Sweden at the same time that Millennium magazine, directed by Erika Berger and Mikael Blomkvist, is preparing to expose a network of pimping and women trafficking. But the murder of two magazine employees and also the person in charge of Lisbeth's legal custody causes authorities to start looking for her. Determined to avenge his dead colleagues and convinced that someone is using her as a scapegoat, Mikael is going to investigate and help his friend. The film has a good plot and a story full of mystery, that knows how to capture our curiosity, but we need to be attentive because it gives several twists and turns. There are also plenty of action, which makes everything more fun to watch. What cost me the most was the disinterested way in which Alfredson directed it. He gives the film an overly televised feel and is unable to create the atmosphere of mystery and tension that made the first film work so perfectly. The characters also no longer had the same ability to reach the public. The cast is overwhelmingly the same as we saw in the previous film but, as I said, it doesn't achieve the same impact, which does not mean that it did a bad job. Noomi Rapace sees her status as a protagonist consolidated with this film, which is entirely around her; Michael Nyqvist, now in a more reserved position, also gave us a good job, even becoming, for me, the actor who is closest to the work developed in “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo”. Lena Endre had more space to show what is worth and it also gives us a satisfactory job. The film also features good collaborations from Peter Andersson, Yasmine Garbi, Ralph Carlsson, Micke Spreitz, Per Oscarsson and Georgi Staykov. Technically, the film is too televised in its appearance and in the way it seems to have been thought... so that I don't even know if it will have circulated in theaters. Anyway, it's something that didn't cause me any problems, although it's a shame that the production didn't think about creating a final product with a more cinematic shape. Cinematography and editing are regular, but do not excel in brilliance. The film is long and in some versions (dedicated to TV) it is divided into two halves. The effects are good and fulfill their role, the sets and costumes, as well as the careful choice of landscapes and filming locations, increase the visual beauty of the whole set. The soundtrack does its job well.

"The Girl Who Played with Fire" resulted in an entertaining and tense movie, but with a simple plot that put out a little of the scence of the first movie, however is still entertaining and the performances of Nyquist and Rapace still captivating.

Pretty good follow up to Dragon Tattoo with a thrilling ending though still quite confronting.

Unbelievable that this is the sequel of the disappointing 'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo'. As both Lisbeth and Mikael have a personal connection to the case, it's way more interesting than the first movie. It's even more brutal but here it doesn't seem so gratuitous as in number 1. Good screenplay, good direction and mainly good actors (I still don't like Mikael Nyqvist). It revamps most of the mistakes and is one really interesting crime story, that perfectly fits as the middle of 3 continuous movies. The end is no total cliffhanger because we get kind of a solution, but everything is open for the final part and that's how it should be.

The Girl Who Played with Fire (2009): Interesting origin story, but the crime solving half of the story is fairly dull. The film also uses a lot of repetition from first movie, a sign of weak story telling.

Et même, le rÃsultat final donne l'impression que ce MillÃnium 2 est en rÃalità un simple tÃlÃfilm, n'ayant pas eu de prise de risque question mise en scène, avec une ambiance qui a rÃgressà par rapport au premier. NÃanmoins, ce (tÃlÃ)film possède encore bien des atouts comme son casting (Noomi Rapace et Michael Nyqvist en tête), la bande son en adÃquation avec l'univers du film et il y a suffisamment de suspense pour que MillÃnium 2 tienne en haleine jusqu'au bout. Un bon polar, en somme!

Ok, so it's not as good as The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (which is hardly surprising, as the first film bordered on perfection) but The Girl Who Played with Fire still has a lot to offer. New director Daniel Alfredson takes the story in a more action-centric crime thriller direction, which has merit in terms of pure entertainment, but holds far less intrigue than the dark, gritty murder-mystery that the first film was. The story itself is a little slow off the mark, and can become a little convoluted at times, but manages to find its feet about halfway through. Noomi Rapace continues to prove herself as a formidably talented and versatile young actress, adding further depth to the character of Lisbeth Salander as more of her back-story is revealed, and Michael Nyqvist is still strong, though he's not as essential to the second film's story. While it's never dull to watch, you can't help but think you've seen a lot of things in The Girl Who Played with Fire somewhere before. Unlike its predecessor, the film owes a lot to Hollywood thrillers, and you can spot the films that influenced it a mile off (a bit of The Fugative here, some Bourne there). Though it's for the most part entertaining, it's such a shame that the second part of the Millennium trilogy completely lacks the originality of the first.

This movie is the worst in the series It probably had to do with the director change. But it's worth watching because Noomi Rapace's Lisbeth Salender is just hypnotic.

It is inevitable that a sequel will be compared with its predecessor. This film is nowhere near as good as the first film. While it is still a good film the story is not as strong and is somewhat poorly developed with characters and plot lines seemingly emerging at random at some points of the film. While Rapace's performance was as good as in 'Dragon Tattoo', Nyqvist's portrayal seemed blunted this time around. The failure to resolve the initial storyline - the human trafficking - while perhaps something that will be left to the next film - seemed odd and disappointing. Nonetheless, it is still very much worth watching despite not living up to the standard of the first.

Second part of Stieg Larsson's "Girl Who" trilogy. Not as good sequel to the brilliant first film but once again great casting & well acted & Noomi Rapace is outstanding. It's beautifully shot once again & one or two wincing moments but nowhere near as dark & mysterious as the first film.

Not as good as The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, but as the first one is a masterpiece thats understandable. The acting is still great but its the story that slightly lets this one down. Its a bit all over the place and not as easy to follow. However anything which expanded the story of the first movie makes this worth watching.

A great production for a masterful thriller full of twists and gripping suspense. Rapace and Nyqvist act as if the roles had been made for them and just leaves wanting to see more of this (luckily there is one more).

This trilogy is a really good one. I love the girl with the dragon tattoo. I think both are just great and I can't Decide which movie is better. I don't Like reading subs a=because reading subs are just like reading a book but I didn't mind reading it for this movie. I think this is one of the year best film. I can't wait until the usa version is made. I hope they make it just like this one or better.

Although the second installment doesn't feature as much tension and action as the first, The Girl Who Played With Fire still feature Noomi Rapace's excellent portray of Lisbeth Salander.

Ever since I read the infamous "Girl with the Dragon Tatoo" I have been hooked on this amazing trilogy. Overall I give the film a positive review (aside from the tacky dubbed English version) there's something noteworthy to be said about the acting and the action-packed special effects. Those unfamiliar with the series or the first film may have trouble following along at first, but I'm confident that this will appeal to almost anyone that doesn't mind subtitles.

Whereas the first installment was a clear-cut, easy to follow thriller that kept you guessing, The Girl Who Played with Fire, while entertaining, is a bit murky where the plot is involved. I'm still not entirely sure if I "get" how the beginning of the movie actually ties to the end of it. Fans of the series will love it, fans of the first one will think it's alright, and people completely unfamiliar with any of the Millennium series should probably just avoid it.

Faithful to the book, this film offers tense, gritty thrills. It also suffers, as does the novel, from the fact that Lisbeth and Mikael don't have the direct interaction they had in "Dragon Tattoo." Very much feels like part 2 of a trilogy, but leaves me enthused for film no. 3. I love the fact that these characters have physical flaws . . . can you imagine Jennifer Aniston appearing on film with even one enlarged pore?

A major disappointment after the first installment. Slow (but not in a good way), rambling and with no real atmosphere, this plays like a mediocre (at best) miniseries lazily edited into a movie. There are trilogies with very strong middle parts (The Godfather II, Empire Strikes Back), but this is not the case here.

Apalagi di sepanjang jalan cerita, Lisbeth dan Mikael sama sekali tidak berinteraksi, kecuali satu kali lewat sebuah pesan yang dituliskan oleh Lisbeth di laptop Mikael. Hal ini seperti mengurangi kepadatan jalan cerita yang telah tercipta pada film pertama seri Millenium ini. Sutradara Daniel Afredson juga sepertinya terjebak dengan jalur drama yang dituliskan oleh Jonas Frykberg ini dengan memberikan tone cerita yang lebih lamban. Menampilkan lebih banyak karakter yang telibat di dalam jalan cerita dengan menghadirkan jumlah adegan action yang lebih sedikit daripada sebelumnya, membuat The Girl who Played with Fire terkesan **** dalam tampilannya sebagai sebuah drama action yang jelas akan membuat film ini cenderung terkesan sedikit membosankan bagi beberapa orang. Walau begitu, bukan berarti kualitas film ini menurun drastis, apalagi dengan penampilan Noomi Rapace yang semakin terikat dengan karakternya, Lisbeth Salander. Setelah memperkenalkan sisi yang misterius yang **** di film pertamanya, Rapace terlihat mampu untuk memperlihatkan sisi sensitivitas dirinya ketika karakter yang ia perankan harus berurusan dengan masa lalunya yang kelam dan sepertinya bukan sesuatu yang sangat diinginkan. Walau secara keseluruhan The Girl who Played with Fire menyajikan adegan action yang lebih minim, namun Rapace beberapa kali sempat terlibat dalam adegan yang mengharuskannya **** kemampuan fisiknya. Dan ini ia lakukan dengan sangat baik dan semakin memperkokoh imej heroine Lisbeth Salander yang ia bawakan. Karakter Mikael Blomkvist yang diperankan oleh aktor Michael Nyqvist, yang pada The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo tampil sama menonjolnya dengan karakter Lisbeth Salander, di film ini tampaknya harus sedikit mengalah karena harus membagi jalan cerit

Not nearly as good as the first movie, which I loved. It had none of the style, the drama, the intrigue. The fact that it has a different director is extremely apparent. Hopefully the third one will be a return to the greatness of the original.
