Sweethearts thankfully avoids full predictability – a welcome relief, particularly in a film that embraces the rampant horniness of 18-year-olds. Even if you’ve suffered through the turkey dump, this one is a treat.

This is a smart, funny, original piece of work that turns some well-worn tropes upside down in clever fashion, a heartwarming slice of comfort comedy.

The central premise of the friends’ dropping their high school relationships never takes off when the film has so little interest in fleshing those connections out even slightly, but it’s easy to root for the two of them to find happiness.

At the end of the day, Sweethearts just feels wan and inconsequential as a result of its lack of focus.

This direct-to-streaming bauble benefits from two leads whose charm effortlessly outshines the material.

Despite subverting expectations and being edgy in its approach, the lack of energy and fearlessness keeps this story from reaching its full potential. Weiss's directorial debut is not a dud, but charm can only get you so far.

Gosto bastante da construção dos personagens principais, bem construídos em suas respectivas personalidades, bem como a química entre eles realmente funciona, e o que é melhor, p desfecho acertadamente é coerente com tudo o proposto. Infelizmeente o filme se perde nos personagens secundários, que os orbitam com pouca densidade, sem contar que a direção é quase trágica ao filmar a festa, ficou muito ruim mesmo. A sorte é que o carisma do casal central conta com um trato melhor para roteiro e diálogo, segurando as pontas, fazendo torcer junto, ou simplesmente se divertir com eles, sem pretensão alguma. Muito fofo os dois juntos em cena.

I watched this because Kiernan Shipka is in it. While Jamie and Nico Hirago's character, Ben, is relatable, it pales compared to films like Superbad. What this film is missing is identity, instead what it focuses on is the petty realisation that long-distance relationships ****. Sure there are funny occurrences in the film but they are forgettable. This film also decides to take a large junk to focus on gay character/s. Look I don't have anything against any gay/lesbian people out there but all of a sudden the film wants to focus on a character that does nothing and is worthless to the plot. Anyway, compared to other teen comedies, dramas etc. that I've seen in the past this is the worst one on my list. The film isn't bad it's just ok, you'll forget it in an hour. The only thing I'll remember that made the film flow is I guess, Jamie got drenched in some "Fluid". That's the only thing that had a proper callback in the film, and that scene was the best one in the film. 5/10, I'm going to watch something else now, and this may have aided in my depression about relationships, but at least you know this review is real, yay.
