An intense mix of horror, thriller and domestic drama, this is exquisite film making.

For as long as Park and Wasikowska keep it burbling, it's an intoxicating brew.

The rhythmic machinery of a predatory rebellion: A 5.0-star sensational surge of raw, high-tension gothic grit.2013(5.0)I watched Stoker (2013) in a theater in 2013, and it remains a vivid 5.0-star pillar of shwi-shwi visual elegance in my archive—a raw revelation of how a sensational Korean director’s Hollywood debut can dismantle the stagnant expectations of a standard thriller. This experience **** the fourth wall of the coming-of-age genre by infusing Mia Wasikowska’s raw, "insanely sexy" precision and Matthew Goode’s sensational, sinister wit into a narrative rhythm that felt 100% sophisticated and chewy. The narrative rhythm was far from stagnant; instead, it offered a sensational acting power show where the raw, high-tension duality of repressed desire and inherited darkness left me in a state of absolute awe at its visceral soul. Seeing the vivid, meticulous cinematography and the raw, high-tension piano duet provided an emotional payoff that felt both authentic and sensational, proving that a story about "becoming the hunter" could be a vivid artifact of pure cinematic pride. The 95% preservation of my memory is dominated by the rhythmic, raw beauty of Mia Wasikowska’s performance and the vivid but pathetic unraveling of the family secrets, creating a permanent, sensational scar of high-tension wonder on my soul. Unlike the stagnant 1.0-star drift of The Romantic President, this encounter possessed a rebellious soul that turned a pathetic childhood into a sensational masterpiece of style. It stands in my 2013 record as a powerful 5.0-star testament to the raw power of Park Chan-wook’s vision—a high-tension encounter with the vivid rhythm of the India Stoker that remains the most chewy artifact of my cinematic journey.

Once Wentworth Miller's screenplay starts to provide answers for Charlie's mysterious menace, though, expectations are left unfulfilled.

Like a taxidermied owl, Stoker is lovely to look at, but in the end it’s hard to give a hoot.

Park's methodical but tonally uneven direction too often eschews luridness; it's as if he can't decide exactly how far to push his material into the loopy. Still, his assured and evocative camerawork intimates that peril lurks everywhere, and there's an alien quality to its performances and dialogue that suggests a world slightly unhinged.

What we end up with is an arm's-length film that feels more haunted than haunting -- and one that audiences will want to forget rather than remember.

The risible Stoker is a brutally empty, deeply unfortunate movie, and Park Chan-wook's jackhammer of a tool he calls a brush is, on this evidence, something that should be locked away.

This was an incredibly beautiful movie that will give you a new appreciation for non cgi photography. Chung Hoon Chung is the name of the photographer, he became popular after Oldboy in 2004, which I found a good movie but a little overrated. Primary colors, natural fades, every shot could be framed like a picture. Also this movie has a really good performance by Nicole Kidman, who is so versatile it's crazy. She can be creepy, sexy, smart, perceptive, all at once and always in different ways.

The movie starts at the funeral for Mr. Stoker. That leaves his introverted teenage daughter (Mia Wasikowska), his troubled wife (Nicole Kidman) and Uncle Charlie (Matthew Goode), who shows up from obscurity. And the creepy, fatal games begin. Who's killing and why? While some things about the direction and cinematography are compelling, the slow pacing and ultimately silly story keep it from having the socko effect that was desired. Interesting coincidence: Harmony Korine (director of "Spring Breakers," which opened here this weekend) has an almost invisible part in this film as the art teacher. GAY ANGLE: Some handsome men, but no flesh and no fun.

A different kind of Stepfather movie. What made me wonder is that for a simple story movie has a huge casting. Like Nicole Kidman, Mia Wasikowska, Matthew Goode.

Probably the worst thriller mystery movie I have ever seen. Stoker is simply a god awful, contrived, pointless waste of 100 minutes, that offers no real tension or any realism what so ever.
