Shelter is solid old-fashioned action. It does not reinvent anything, does not attempt to transform the genre and does not need to. The film is built around Jason Statham, his physical presence and his familiar ability to play men who appear exhausted by the world but still follow a personal moral code.Statham plays a former MI6 agent living in isolation and trying to leave behind a life defined by violence. Everything changes when he must protect a teenage girl and becomes the target of people willing to do anything to eliminate **** story is extremely familiar. A dangerous man tries to remain hidden, a vulnerable person becomes dependent on him and the past forces him to use his old skills again. We have seen this structure many times, but it is handled effectively **** opening section is quieter and slightly melancholic. The film wants us to understand the character before the gunfire and chases begin. He is not simply a killing machine, but someone who has paid a price for his past and does not want to return to that life.This suits Statham very well. He has never needed long speeches to communicate exhaustion, pain or determination. A look, a movement or a moment of silence is usually enough. His physical ability remains essential, but he can also bring humanity to characters who might otherwise be completely **** relationship with the teenager provides the emotional element. It is not developed with enormous depth, but it gives him someone to protect and reminds us that beneath the cold professional there is still a man capable of caring about another person.Once the action begins, the film delivers. There are dry, physical fights, chases, weapons and blows that appear genuinely painful. Ric Roman Waugh directs with clarity and avoids turning every confrontation into an incomprehensible collection of rapid cuts. We understand where the characters are, what they are trying to do and why each movement **** is not an especially spectacular film, but it is physical. Statham moves with the confidence of someone who has spent years doing this and remains believable when taking down several enemies. He never quite feels like an invulnerable superhero, even though we know he will eventually find a way **** villains are thoroughly evil, exactly as this kind of film requires. They do not possess much complexity, but they work as a threat. They are cruel, persistent and unpleasant enough to make it satisfying when Statham finally fights **** espionage material is fairly simple. There are secrets, betrayals, former agents and powerful people controlling events from a distance. None of it competes with the best spy thrillers, but it provides enough structure to connect the action **** supporting cast also helps. Several actors bring weight to relatively small roles, preventing the film from feeling like a cheap production designed only to reach the next fight as quickly as **** screenplay is predictable and many of its decisions can be anticipated. We know betrayals are coming, we know the assassins will find them and we know the protagonist will eventually stop running. Predictability is not always a serious flaw when the execution is this solid.Shelter knows exactly who its audience is. Anyone searching for a revolutionary story or a complex examination of espionage will be disappointed. Anyone who wants to watch Jason Statham protect someone, fight criminals and leave a trail of broken bones will probably have a very good **** worked for me. The action is strong, the lead completely understands this kind of role and the villains are hateful enough. It is more of the same, but it is more of the same done well.Statham remains one of my favourite action stars, and films like this explain why. He does not need to pretend he is making something else. He arrives, protects the person who needs him and destroys everyone standing in his way.

It was alright; the story didn't make much sense, since they could have brought more supplies earlier or delayed them so nothing at the start would have happened, but that wouldn't have made for a good movie. The action is standard, and while it is always fun to see Jason in fights, this is a typical action movie with not much new to offer. It's quite similar that Jason is playing in some sort of Jason Bourne-like movie.

Statham does a solid job in this Bourne copycat. In terms of entertainment, it's enjoyable but won't stay in the memory for long.

It was Way better than i expected it to be, and i am really glad that u could actually see the Action. A solid Action Movie. There were a few things toward the End i did not like thats why it is only 7 outta 10.

(Mauro Lanari) Dormant action hero, reawakened, redeemed: with a little girl or a pet? Better both. Darker than usual for cinematography, laconicism, and Chopin's "Nocturne" on the soundtrack, it's a mint that prints the same banknote, hoping it won't go out of circulation but rise to an archetype as much as John Wayne's bi-expressiveness, or at least to a meme like the recently deceased Chuck Norris.

Unfortunately, this is one of Jason Statham's bad films and is not worth watching. The dialogue and action are sleep-inducing.

A decent enough film, better than most Statham fodder. Probably due to the fact that it’s based in the UK and there are no dodgy accents going on. It’s the usual Statham based story though. Direction and acting are basically decent enough. Lots of action, as you’d expect! I’d watch it again!

Shelter is exactly the kind of Jason Statham movie you'd expect, but with a slower-burning pace and a few dramatic scenes not commonly found in this genre. Overall, it's no surprises, but it doesn’t disappoint either.

The actors must of all been like, "Is this right? You are going to pay me to show no emotion in any scene?"

But repetition only becomes fatigue when the spectacle falters—and here, the choreography is sharp, the pacing tight, and the stakes sufficiently engaging. Shelter doesn’t attempt to reinvent the genre; instead, it refines what it already knows **** viewers seeking a polished, adrenaline-fueled experience, this film delivers.

Jason Statham plays a guy that is living a mundane and quiet life BUT he is actually an elite operative forced back into action!Sound familiar? Well that is because it is literally the exact premise of his previous two films: Beekeeper and The Working ManShelter doesn't do much different except being very British this time. Will Jason Statham start doing something new? Not this time...

Another good Jason Statham movie. They're always action packed but this one was a bit more subtle. All in all, we'd rate this: "get some popcorn and enjoy."

Decent Jason Statham movie although this movie has a lot more emotions than is usual for his movies; its good but more action would be preferable - leave the emotions for the other rubbish movies like Wuthering Heights etc. Simple plot but nobody cares about that really; its all about the action and there is slightly less of that but ok overall.

Shelter is a bone-breaking action film with unflinching integrity. Shelter unfolds like a grounded Black Ops version of John Wick. When it comes to action films, Jason Statham’s catalog sets the bar pretty high with exceptional combat sequences and humble yet satisfying storylines. Not only does he have another hit, but he’s brought depth and endearment with him, and of course, integrity. The tone is moody, the action is fresh, brutal, and meaningful. Moreover, if the sharp, bone-breaking fight sequences aren’t enough, the wholesome fathers-daughter-esque relationship will warm your bullet-riddled heart.

An entertaining film that takes some time to start. The movie is basically a bunch of other movies thrown together. Still a fun watch.

Shelter (15) is a film starring Jason Statham. I could stop my review there as his films have become so formulaic that you almost feel you are watching the same film as the one he made before. The Statham character usually lives alone, minds his own business but is friendly with an old lady etc. Something then happens that requires him to cast off the cloak of anonimity and reveal that he is a former soldier, usually SAS, or an ex special agent, anyway you get the picture. For some reason, as with a lot of films lately, it seems to be shot in a gloom. Almost a silent one too to start with as you see Statham standing and gazing with intense focus at the sea view. The action does pick up though as he finds he has to act as a parent and nurse to a suspicious young girl Jessie (Bodhi Rae Breathnach). Statham has a paranoia about being seen, actually, as always, his fear is well grounded as when he is eventually spotted all hell breaks loose as he and young Jessie are hunted down. I won't say anymore as you can probably work out the rest. I did like the film as it was an easy watch. It required no real effort to understand what was happening - you could just sit back and enjoy the ride. The young girl who is Staham's co-star does really well in her role and it was her acting that gave us the only real emotion in a film that was otherwise lacking any, given Statham's deadpan performance, with little dialogue except his occasional instruction to her. If you are a Statham fan you will want to see it but if you have seen his other films and were not impressed, this will not change your mind.

Better than I expected! If you liked Jason’s Jan 2024 Beekeeper, this is on the same level of quality. Seems to me film reviewers, both lay and pro, are not adapting to our cinematic times. There must be 1000 to 2000 action films similar to Jason Statham’s Jan 2026 Shelter. Seems to me, reviewers score movies like this based on originality. This is an error. Modern action movies are always going to recycle the same tropes. Who disputes this? The better metric is COMMITMENT. If an actioner like Shelter has committed a directing and acting, it should get a higher score than an actioner just “painting by the numbers.”Shelter is made with commitment. It’s directed with commitment. The actors are committed. The young girl is especially effective, an echo of the young Jennifer Lawrence here. She makes excellent use of her role and dialogue which are awfully familiar. Bill NIghy is effective in his supporting role. Shelter has one of the most effective soundtracks I’ve heard in a year or so, something like Tangerine Dream meets X-files (Michael Manring). Very appropriate and “pluses” plot points at every turn. Compare Shelter with the last few Aaron Eckhart actioners. I’m sad to say except for his first one or two actioners, Aaron’s films have been more “paint by number” with little commitment to distinguish them.

hhhhhhhhhhhh, my man Jason, you done DID it again dude!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!If you had HEARD the chatter, me and my friend and EVERYONE else, that walked out of that theater, ENJOYED this movie IMMENSELY...Exciting, a great ALL AROUND cast, excellent writing, directing, my MAN Jason?!!!!Awesome!!Go a SEE this movie y'all, it's DEFINITELY worth it, ok?!!!!!!!!!!Like I said, you done DID it again, Jas?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice surprise! A little but if a toned down Statham movie, in a good way. Some might find it a little boring at times, since it allows itself to establish a world and for us to just be with the characters and care about them. Nice and moody. But it still delivers fun action. I liked how Statham was a little more vulnerable than typical, and with less bravado. The whole movie has a little more of a European sensibility to it, like an older, more mature version of some old school Statham. But again, it still has fun with some typical kick-ass action tropes. Great acting all around by the surrounding cast. Also, I like how the movie changes locations throughout, as we see the environments slowly getting a little bigger and more fun as action sets. The whole thing felt grounded and gritty, which I love. And even though it's not sappy, it got quite emotional a couple times, even during the action.

Not sure if it’s damning with faint praise to say I didn’t hate it. It may have taken a little longer than I liked to get going but once it did there was the anticipated body count with the bad guys coming in for some serious stick. There may have been a few questions you would have liked to ask about the plot points but at 1 hour 47 minutes it did not outstay its welcome. Bodhi Rae Breathnach deserves a special mention as I thought she was excellent as the spirited young girl who was a key part of the action.
