All music docs are not created equal. Yes, some are formulaic. But some are beautiful, some are singular, some are marvels of storytelling. And some, like Searching for Sugar Man, are all three.

Though unabashedly manipulative in its storytelling and structure, Searching For Sugar Man ultimately earns its happy ending and buzzy, crowd-pleasing populist appeal by alchemizing trembling inner-city pain into transcendent international beauty.

Conmovedora, una historia increíble de la voz que fue apagada en una parte del mundo y encendida en otra. No hay desperdicio en este filme, la música y la composición del documental son perfectos ¡Genial!

I'm not huge into documentaries but it's always a pleasant surprise when you run into such a work of art as "Searching for Sugar Man." Slow to start but beautiful story and thrilling ending. Highly recommend!

This is a real-life fairy tale with a remarkably happy ending.

Music fans will love this indie documentary. Try to avoid Googling him before you watch, though.

Director Malik Bendjelloul expertly paces this strange and moving film, half mystery and half meditation on art, fame, the music biz and the definition of a meaningful life.

The movie is neatly structured, and Rodriguez turns out to be an interesting guy. He's worth getting to know, even if his music isn't.

While all the interview subjects are enthusiastic, the overall lack of familiarity with Rodriquez's personal background and career collapse begin to drag.

Who knew? I considered myself a "mavin" of folk/rock of the 60's and 70's but yet I had never heard of this artist known as Rodriguez. This documentary tells the story of a singer/songwriter who never had a chance to succeed in the U.S. but became a voice of the opposition in apartheid South Africa. An absolute brilliant film that brings his story to the world. At times a very sad story but at other times a film that can lift up the spirit of everyone who sees this movie. The music alone is well worth the price of admission. I look forward to watching "Searching for Sugar Man" many more times.

Probably the best documentary I have ever seen. 'Nuff said. Since a review needs to be a ridiculous 150 characters long, here's the rest.....best documentary I have ever seen, best documentary I have ever seen, best documentary I have ever seen, best documentary I have ever seen, best documentary I have ever seen.

Beautiful film about a real original. I am 47, and I have loved Rodriguez's music since my big brother brought Cold Fact home when I was 10. Like the men who made this film, I always wondered what became of him, every time I hummed the bassline to "I Wonder". I am so grateful to them for uncovering what happened to Sixto Rodriguez there is no other story like it. If like me, you have grown up knowing this man's music, GO AND SEE THIS FILM RIGHT NOW. If not, I think anyone at all would be enormously moved by his story, it's beautiful

Pile of **** masqerading as some miracle story straight out of South Africa. Here's an idea for ya. How about you ring up the record company and ask if Rodreegeez is still living in the same town he always has been. Answer would be yes, problem solved. This was just a fabricated conspiracy to milk a concert tour out of someone who wasn't popular. Ya'll got hoodwinked and then fleeced. Absolute **** One guy says he travelled to Amsterdam cos in some lyrics it mentioned there. How about tell the truth lying South African, you went there to smoke dope and probably cooked up the idea for this con job. ****
