I enjoyed this movie on its own dumb level.

This insanely busy, exceedingly long, and sometimes endearingly preposterous rendering has simply gotten the directions reversed in its insistence on sticking only to where men-who-make-adventure-flicks have gone before.

This VERY underrated fun, entertaining and awesome bro-time movie mixes Indiana Jones with National Treasure and does it right. Screw the critics and their negative reviews. I had a blast and so did all my friends!

I *will not* see this film trashed! This was a ripper of an adventure that should have been much more successful than it was. Indiana Jones with a wry smile. James Bond with tongue very firmly-in-cheek. Dashing and goofy rolled into one. Perhaps audiences didn't quite know what to do with this film?? It just hit the balance perfectly, imho, between being a couple of adventurers who happen upon a **** plot and a pinch of a slightly daffy comedy. This was undeniably a cut-above most films of its ilk -- and how few there are. I consider it a real tragedy that it wasn't more successful and that Sahara 2 will never be made.

If the filmmakers had spent $14.98 of that $100 mil on a DVD of "The Mummy," they might have learned a few things: You need a head villain who is surpassingly evil, you need some jokes that get laughs - and a few sword-fighting skeletons wouldn't hurt.

Rojas is played by Penélope Cruz, who's endearing enough, but still comes across coarse and irritating every time she attempts a role in English.

Saddled with more industry/celebrity baggage than a high-class safari voyage, Sahara is a rousing and only occasionally ridiculous adventure yarn.

In the end, the thing that Cussler's fans will probably object to most is the nonsensical way Sahara manhandles his story.

A stunning piece of work--stunningly inept, stunningly incoherent, stunningly awful in every single way imaginable.

Highly underrated movie. Great story, acting, and action throughout. A lot of Indiana Jones vibes in a good way.

Big, dumb, Hollywood action fun. A nonsensical plot combined with fun action and an invigorating locale creates Sahara. It's a movie about a lot of things, and it's sometimes hard to keep track of them all. This is a very fun guilty pleasure movie.

Fairly entertaining and Matthew is good but the plot becomes very holey. Visuals are solid.

Another McConaughey fiasco, all bluster, no brain and a huge loss of money. Hard to believe that people starve while multiple millions are wasted on junk like this. Great locations, big-budget effects, big music score all wrapped around a trite, silly violent script. No wonder the disappointed novelist sued the movie makers for this mess but to no avail, everybody lost money on this non-event. Seems to be a lot of silly folk in movieland to let this even get past the scripting and production stages. Stay away from this desert if you’re looking for a good story - if looking to fill an empty head with a lot of hot air and sand, you’ve come to the right place. For very easily pleased adults who mislead their kids. If you like McConaughey, try "The Free State Of Jones" for a more honest approach to storytelling and action.

This movie had the budget to be great, but was sorely miscast. I saw an interview with Mat saying he pushed for the rights to make it. So I guess he thought of himself as Dirk. Which he isn't! And then I guess Mat wanted so much money to pretend to be Dirk all he could afford for Al, was Steve. WTF! It's like no one read the book! Steve is NO Al! Not in any way! This mess was ego driven and Mat should be held accountable for ruining a product that should have set the wheels in motion for many of Clive's books getting to the screen. But NO, the reason no other films have been made are because of Matthew's ego!
