It is a cute film that did not deserve to be a box-office bomb it has a story.

It was for the best not to succeed at the box office. To start off with, I might believe that it was an anti-racism concept... but it was a fight between good vs evil. There a some jokes that feel in place: Ruby is good at math with calling somebody "Algebro" or the name Chelsea sounding like both "shell" & "sea". Some jokes were just trying to be funny that I could not bare to laugh. The writing/screenplay does not seem to be great. It takes the formulaic plot of the protagonist being advised by the parent not to go out somewhere when it personally does turn to be important; at a climax, they believe their parent was right but they actually thought right. I am not into the character designs either - some look a bit ugly excluding Chelsea the Mermaid. Chelsea was my favourite character - why couldn't krakens & mermaids get along? You know Disney Princesses - now welcome DreamWorks Princesses? (People like Eep, Tip, Poppy or Ruby herself).

Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken is littered with too much flotsam and jetsam from better animated features to stand as a true original, but its inherent sweetness and lively style make for likable enough family entertainment.

Ruby Gillman is yet another DreamWorks beautiful piece of art that not only will give entertainment value for families but gives out positive messages about who you are and about taking Risks! It’s not what we want but we all deserved. Hopefully this Fun Movie will have a Sequel :)

I liked it but have to admit that the movie has some weaknesses. Lets start with the good things. The animation and art style are really good. I like the characters and plot. Especially the Gillman family is fun to watch. The humor works well for most parts. Now for the bad stuff. The story is quite foreseeable and I was able to predict the main plot twist and outcome early on. Also to quote a female friend the movie is a bit misandric. Men are just bystanders and do not have big roles except maybe the secondary antagonist. Lets say it did not reinvent the wheel. For itself the story is about Ruby Gillman who is a seemingly a normal teenager but with blue skin. Her family has a secret. They are (humanoid) Kraken that live along humans on land. Everything that is odd about them is explained by being Canadians. Rudy is forbidden from entering the ocean which is a problem because the prom is o a ship. So starts the story. Like I said I like the characters and story. The voice actors are fine and deliver. The soundtrack is fitting and has no missteps. Overall I will give an 8/10 with a warning that this is not for everyone.

Ruby Gillman is fine. Its a coming of age animated film with light action and that's about it. Nothing about it is particularly special, notable, or worth seeking out. The animation is kinda pretty if only for its emphasis on fluidity and I can see the idea behind it- this feels like of those Dreamworks shows that was supposed to have a Netflix spin-off series in terms of how things play out (though considering how this film was treated, I doubt that's happening). But like...That's it. I don't really wanna force any discussion on this movie cause I don't think there's a ton TO discuss. If you need something to put on for your kid, this'll do. But you could also show them Turning Red which is borderline the exact same movie and they'll probably have more fun. Either way, nothing too notable or worth talking about here.

Dreamworks how the hell do you make puss n boots 2 and then you make this and they look like Playdoh I don't get it and the story is boring,generic and slow and the so called villain wasn't even really villain also of the highshool girl trope who just wants to fit in and be normal like embrace that **** already I really to care to see the journey for that to happen its been done to death and how the hell dose no one knows she's clearly not human oh because their all idiots like this movie that's stupid.

No es en absoluto de las 10 peores películas de Dreamworks (ahí tenemos Bee movie, Shrek Tercero, Turbo, EL ESPANATATIBURONES!!), ni me voy a tirar de los pelos para que todos constaten que tengo una grandísima cultura cinematográfica, tanta que coincide con la de todos los pseudocríticos de internet. Sí, es un truño, de hecho yo solo veo películas de Gihbli, Cartoon saloon, y me paso las noches en vela viendo películas austrohúngaras de 6 horas de duración para decir que sé mucho de cine. Por Dios, cuánto cinismo, las he visto mucho peores este año, y muchas de ellas en el cine, y no precisamente es que sean películas pequeñas, que prometen mucho y carecen de la más mínima coherencia (véase "Five nights at Freddy's", por poner un ejemplo, que me parece la peor película del año con diferencia). Cuando vi "Simbad, la leyenda de los siete mares", me pareció muy sosa, pero al menos admití que hay un público mayoritario a la que le gustó. Quizá estemos menos cultivados que estos grandes eruditos con sus elaboradas críticas. En este caso la película promete y cumple, es divertida y posee una animación sublime. Que es lo mínimo que se le pide a una peli de este estilo. ¿Debo estar lobotomizado por no ponerla verde no? Desconfío de aquellos que me dicen qué pensar, me gusta hacerlo por mí mismo. Y solo por ese detalle y porque para muchos soy poco menos que un enajenado, por atreverme a ver el film, no voy a criticarla. Es una buena película sin más, y sí, podría haber dado de más de sí, pero os recuerdo Frozen ganó el Oscar a mejor película de animación, pero hoy nadie la calificaría como una película de culto.

No es mala, pero su mediocridad es inhumana. La unica razon por la que esta pelicula pensaban que seria buena y le tenian fe, es porque se """burlaba""" de la """inclusion forzada""" de la sirenita de disney. Es una pelicula muy plana, con poca alma y un copy paste de turning red pero en azul. Pero sin duda lo peor, fue que el "plot twist" que tenian literaltemnte se baso en su publicidad, que chealse era la villana. Aun con todo eso, tiene cosas buenas como el doblaje (en ingles) y la estetica de sus personajes, por todo lo demas, un fracaso TOTAL

Zamiast "Turning Red" to dostaliśmy (niestety gorsze) "Turning Blue". Klasyczna historia coming out of age

I'm gonna be completely honest, this is basically dreamwork's version of Turning red, but without all the drama around turning red cause they only started advertising this film 3 months before it came out. It's not a bad film but considering that this is coming off of the heels of one of Dreamwork's best films and coming out close to Across the Spiderverse, plus the terrible marketing that basically spoils the plot, yeah this film was set up to fail, which honestly ****.

Far from being one of DreamWorks' best films, "Ruby Gillman" ends up being unremarkable or unforgettable. Of course, the film has qualities, such as the animation, the design of the characters, the strong cast in the voice acting. But the script is quite lazy and wastes the potential to create something more elaborate and remarkable. All in all, a film grade 7.

This feels more like a straight to stream movie than something that should have gone to cinema. It's not bad per se. Just not anything particularly exciting. To put it in a word, it's boring. Looks good enough but there's nothing teribly interesting outside of that. The story is mediocre and none of the characters give you much to get invested in. This definitely struggled to hold my interest. Definitely a dud for Dreamworks.

Una buena película para divertirse y pasar un buen rato, con una trama sencilla pero que no aburre, con una animación y estilo bastante bonito, sobre todo bajo el agua, pienso que tiene cosas por ofrecer más allá de las polémicas.

What is going on this year, seriously, this is a significant miss fire from Dreamworks, while the animations and visuals are commendable the actual story, the plot, and the characters are standard, this was clearly made for only kids. Do you know what impresses kids these days, Fancy visuals that's it - look at the pretty glowing thingy. That's what this film does with its visuals. I don't have a problem with that it's just it's not only kids that watch animations. As for the story, it is more predictable than Nimona, I was sitting for 2/3rds of the film saying "She's not your friend she's using you". So the writers did an absolutely poor job of trying to hide the plot. Everything is so generic and just a standard teenage drama occurrence. For such a smart "Kid" that's so good at math, you'd think that she knows that people lie and cheat, if her own mother didn't give her a hint, then what on earth was she expecting? Do not watch this film unless you literally have nothing to watch or just have time to waste. Ratings Power, Go: Visuals: 10/10, Lush and detailed Visuals, I like it, it reminds me of those English clay cartoons, like Shawn the Sheep but at 60fps animation and full CGI. Story: 5/10, Generic, Standard, Ok. Characters: 4/10, Ruby is not a bad character, she is just partially boring and Stupid, sometimes, Teenagers am I right? Plot & Pacing: 6/10, it's good pacing until 2/3 of the film, then it starts rushing because it's running out of run time. I give this film a 5/10. Dream works, listen to the voice of reason please, Make a Megamind 2, Make a Shrek 5, Make Puss In Boots 3, just make anything that is not like this, We all expect much more from you guys. I hope this is just a little trip on a stone and not the beginning of a flop dynasty. This review was short, You guys are lucky this movie was tolerable at least.

El trailer era asqueroso y el nombre también, aún así quise darle una oportunidad y resultó ser espantosamente mala en todos los sentidos, sobretodo por la animación, que se ve genérica y desfasada.

A Dreamwork levou muito azar ao lançar algo nesse nível quando temos "A pequena Sereia" que já capta toda a emoção que um filme fantasioso no fundo do mar pode levar ao cinema (mesmo com uma série de defeitos), mas filmes como "Nimona" e "Elementos": o primeiro por ser a animação definitiva sobre libertar seus monstros interiores e a segunda por saber trabalhar diversos tons em ambientes assemelhados. Então, se no roteiro ou na parte técnica este filme está muito longe de ser impactante, cabia ao menos ter personagens marcantes. É o mesmo defeito dos "Minons", da mesma produtora, que tem uma história corrida mas cujos personagens se sobressaem e muito ao presentado, além de piadas que funcionam. Infelizmente aqui tudo é muito ruim. A construção dos personagens é rasa, o desenvolvimento é apressado, as revoluções parecem até querer se livrar logo do filme. Não há emoção, não há uma trilha marcante. O que poderia render bons personagens adolescentes, não passam de personagens irritantes. O que é de se lamentar, porque eles até tem um bom tipo, mas pelo fato de toda a história querer apostar na correria, seus sentimentos e traços mais marcantes acabam não sendo desenvolvidos de forma eficiente. Tudo se torna esquecível ao chegar dos créditos. Muito se fala da Disney ou da Pixar, mas a Dreamwork está sobrevivendo praticamente à base de continuação de personagens que deram certo, está tendo muita dificuldade em inserir novos mundos. Vamos ver até que ponto o público aguenta, confesso que quase desisto no meio da sessão. Ainda bem que ao menos restou um interesse em ver como a história termina, ou se ia ter algum ponto mais reflexivo. Mas a história é boba, mais do mesmo, é um filme que é absolutamente desnecessário.

A hollow shell of nothingness thatfeels predictable and is 2023's most forgotten film yet.

A really simple plot. I think hat's the "teenage part" of the movie. Is fun in parts, but the movie is reaaaaaally predctable. Also, I didn't enjoyed the animation style. Perhaps Dreamworks raised the bar too high for them with Puss in Boots 2.

Ya la ví y me parece muy buena, pues a mi parecer es apta para todo público ya que no nos imponen nada y lo mejor es la Sirena Pelirroja muy bonita y los niños en la sala creían que era Ariel.

Estuvo buenísima, una película divertida y entretenida yo solo la fui a ver por chelsea, iba con bajas expectativas pero me sorprendió muchísimo no entiendo la mala calificación de la prensa si estuvo buena la peli gente apoyen la peli para que derrote a la sirenita de Disney!
