MoviePass, MovieCrash is an abundantly entertaining, easily digestible rendering of a ‘too crazy to be true’ story that looks at the turbulent, short life of the company from the perspective of its creators, its destroyers, and the rank-and-file workers who could do nothing but watch it all go down in flames.

Directed with just the right amount of stylistic flair (including terrific and helpful graphics) by the talented Muta’Ali, “MoviePass, MovieCrash” is a worthy companion to documentaries such as “Eat the Rich: The GameStop Saga,” “WeWork: Or the Making and Breaking of a $47 Billion Unicorn,“ and the Fyre Festival documentaries.

Gosto particularmente de como o documentário equilibra a visão dos dirigentes com os demais funcionários, em especial a dupla fundadora da empresa que fora destituída de seus cargos pela ganância dos novos administradores. Acredito que o documentário seja um excelente ponta pé para se discutir o capitalismo financeiro, com suas empresas de capital aberto que, muitas vezes, estão em descompasso com o mundo real, ainda que seja uma tragédia anunciada. Faltou um pouco mais de pegada pedagógica para se tornar verdadeiramente uma aula, pois o doc prefere focar nos aspectos moralistas de quem causou a derrocada da empresa e nos aspectos de salvador de quem está tentando reerguê-la.

Pretty well-made documentary… Such a shame that a very modest little company could’ve been blown up by the corporate idiots who forced the founders out. I’m a little surprised that they didn’t make reference to the legacy of movie pass, which is the AMC A-list.
