Another pointless live-action Disney remake that we didn't need or want but somehow returned and managed to make its way towards a theatrical release. I guess Disney didn't learn their lessons from their last two movies: Snow White and Lilo & Stitch. Both of those two movies underperformed and lost money. Now, this one did, and will go down in history, being the third worst attempt by Disney. They are overly indulgent at butchering their own ips. Dwayne The Rock Johnson simply can't act and certainly can't make movie theaters money for theatrical released pictures. He's not lead actor material and he's not an actor. He's a brand. Nothing more, nothing less. The You're Welcome song that Dwayne The Rock Johnson sang was done by autotune, and the lead actress who played Moana couldn't even cry on scene. Her face was dry as a desert and that's pretty pathetic, especially since she's the lead actress and literally portraying the main character of the film itself. The buildings, mountains, waves, and trees looked fake. Nothing felt real or authentic because it's so obvious that everyone must've been standing behind a green screen which diminishes their acting abilities towards carrying pivotal scenes and moments regarding personal growth and character development. The fire monster/goddess and animals are CGI. Even they aren't interesting, nor is the journey that lies ahead. This movie is about as memorable as a fart in the wind. By the time today, tomorrow or whenever, people would've already forgotten all about it and move onto the next big thing, being a bland nothing burger and so fourth. OMG, this movie **** and I fell asleep through the first half because of how boring and disengaging it is. I found myself dosing on-and-off, although that was some moments where I was actually able to stay awake but not throughout tough, unfortunately. Terrible costumes and wig choices which looks like something that came outta Party City. Wow, its no wonder why this live-action Disney Moana remake looks cheaply made, despite them having gone way over budget and money that they'll never fully get back, just to break even. Disney, please for the love of God, stop making live-action remakes. They have never been good and I don't want more of these kinda movies. Quiet frankly, I don't think that anyone does, although I can't necessarily speak for everybody else. Overall, it should've stayed as a streaming movie to watch onto Disney Plus since people are already paying for their weekly and or monthly subscriptions. Other than that, you're not missing out on anything special or remarkable in any way, shape or form. It's a DUD for sure and that is no cap but if you ever decide to watch it, feel free to check it out. Hard pass. Don't recommend. Skip it. 2/10

As somebody who never watched the original animated movie when it was released and still hasn't, this is ok. The Rock being Maui is probably the main problem, and it's mainly due to his age. I think he did a fine job with the role, to be honest. Besides that, I know why they chose him since he was the original Voice Actor, but I don't think it was the best choice for a live-action adaptation; however, the best parts are the visuals of some of the scenes they are really pretty to look at and fun to watch move on the screen

Fui assistir com baixíssimas expectativas e me surpreendi consideravelmente. Visual e trilhas seguem encantando, fazendo jus ao material original. Apesar da carência de histórias originais e dos intermináveis Live Actions da Disney, você deveria dar uma chance pra esse filme, talvez se surpreenda assim como aconteceu comigo.

Moana is not a live-action adaptation that feels urgently needed at the moment. However, if it were to be adapted into live-action two decades from now, the ideal product would likely look much the same as it does today.

Offensive movie! The cast wasn't diverse! I was expecting latino and black representation in this clearly polinesian inspired story, but I did not see it! It's so disappointing we have gone so far as a society and we still can't learn. Jokes aside, useless movie, it's identical to the animated version but just worse. Not necessary, don't produce any more remakes, please.

Die Kamera ist übel. Die CGI ist noch übler. Der Cast und der gesamte Film ist einfach übel. Live Action by Disney, alles wie immer.

Absolutely brilliant, near perfect execution. Everything about the movie - visuals, soundtrack, acting, pacing and tone hits perfectly. There is so much care put into every sequence to make the most of the CGI, which really brings the story to life. The movie takes the right amount of pause to hit the emotions and stays very engaging throughout. Wonderful cinema and such an immersive experience. Loved it and hope they produce the live action for Moana 2 as well!

When the best you can say about a movie is "it's not bad" you're safe to say that it's not good either. Dwayne J. is well behind his zenith and since the movie is an exact copy the main question remains: Why? No, it's not nostalgia.

My criticism isn't just about what happens in the film, but also what happened outside, Disney's decision to greenlight this project for the sake of Dwayne Johnson's ego is baffling, it feels like a dumb and unnecessary decision, and the fact that it even made it into pre-production is genuinely strange. As for the film itself, i could honestly close my eyes, imagine the animated version playing instead, and it would work just fine, even if it still wouldn't be as good as the original, then you actually look at the visuals, and they're simply ugly, Moana in live-action is basically the same movie, just uglier. I will say that the execution of the recreated scenes isn't nearly as awful as i expected, most of them are handled decently, but they never come close to capturing the charm, warmth, and magic of the original, it also loses the vibrant, colorful beauty of Disney's animation, which continues to be the biggest flaw of nearly every Disney live-action remakes. The performances aren't bad either, they're decent at best, and yes, that includes Dwayne Johnson, what i really couldn't stand, though, was his wig, if there's one thing that's terrible from beginning to end, it's that weird, out of place wig, it looks awful. I love the songs from the original, so when hearing the re-recorded version, again, not as good as the original, but they sound just fine. Overall, Moana didn't frustrate me as much as some of Disney's earlier remakes, especially The Lion King, it's still a pointless and completely unnecessary remake that offers no meaningful reason to exist, the original already tells this story beautifully, so why do we need this version? It has many of the same problems as Disney's other live-action remakes, but at least this one still feels like they pretending to have fun, in the end, it's a forgettable movie that i'll never come back to.

It was colorful and charming and had its moments, but honestly I was thinking what it the point? Was this a remake that had to be made? Especially right after Moana 2 was just out in the theaters a couple years ago? This seems like a cash grab to me. The kids will love it because it’s the same story as the animated film and that will allow them to enjoy it without any uncertainty. But it’s not worth seeing several times and will most likely be on Disney plus in weeks. If you want a couple of hours of distraction for your kids, go and see it.

Moana's remake is a blatant exercise in corporate greed; an aberration that demonstrates the laziness with which Disney currently operates; a crude exploitation of nostalgia for something that's barely a decade old. The insistence on creating a cartoonish representation makes everything look ridiculous, not to mention that the flat cinematography and excessive CGI strip it of any cinematic essence. Only Catherine Laga'aia is spared from this disaster.

The live-action adaptation of Moana is an almost complete rehash of the 2016 animated film, but it lacks the same spark that made everything flow so naturally. The story, the songs, the characters, and the key moments are all here, but now they’re constrained by an aesthetic that often feels more artificial than alive.Catherine Laga’aia is the standout, successfully bringing her own version of Moana to life without straying from the character’s essence. “You’re Welcome” also stands out as the moment when the film finally finds some energy of its **** it’s hard to ignore that we’re talking about a remake of an animated film released just ten years ago—one that’s still fresh in our memories and extremely accessible. The more the film tries to stay true to the original, the more it reinforces the feeling that there was absolutely no reason to retell this story this way.

Disney's best live-action film since Cinderella, Moana is a highly entertaining and fun movie, perfect for a good time at the theater, especially with the family ️‍🩹 I would watch it in theaters again.
