Mezcla de hechos reales y ficción en el que se narra cómo México obtuvo la sede de la Copa del Mundo 1986, a pesar de los pronósticos en contra; y cómo fueron los días de gloria y caída en desgracia del artífice de esa proeza. Como comedia es bastante discreta, da la impresión que se quedó a medias.

"México 86" intenta desesperadamente ser "El Lobo de Wall Street", pero no le sale. El antihéroe al que da vida Diego Luna tiene buenos momentos, pero está lejos de ser memorable. Además, la ficción creada alrededor de la obtención de la sede se resuelve muy fácil. Y Karla Souza no tiene nada que hacer. Entretenida e ilustrativa históricamente en cierto sentido, aunque destinada a quedar rápidamente en el olvido
