Mars Needs Moms

The movie is also visually magnificent - modestly so. Plus, it's half the length of "Avatar."

I salute the effort to go somewhere strange in Mars Needs Moms; if only a fully realized idea - and not the same, barely concealed right-wing rap, different planet - had been the destination.

Though light enough in tone, packed with good messages and delivering a couple of lovely, touching moments, "Mars" still has that plastic look that made you wish you were seeing the REAL Tom Hanks in "Polar Express" or the REAL Jim Carrey in "A Christmas Carol."

The how-it-was-made demonstration may have been the most captivating part of Mars Needs Moms.

The movie has more charm when it's earthbound. Cusack and Green's mother-son repartee has sharp comic timing. Once the story veers off to space, it goes downhill.

Imagination is in short supply, with rubbery heroes repeatedly plummeting (down chutes, primarily) or hopping and running in slow motion-images that (to state what has now become the obvious) are seldom enhanced by pedestrian IMAX 3-D effects.

Aside from a relatively brief appearance by Joan Cusack's avatar as the kidnapped mother, there are no involving characters or situations.

This movie does have its moments. But even those are covered with a cliched part and so-so voice acting. An overall ok movie but is a big step-down for director Robert Zemeckis. 6/10 (OK)

Marte Precisa de Mães não é um desastre completo, mas também não é um filme que vale a pena rever. A ideia inicial tinha potencial, mas o roteiro raso, personagens pouco carismáticos e o problema com a animação tornam a experiência apenas mediana.Há momentos interessantes, especialmente na construção do mundo marciano e na trilha sonora, mas isso não é o suficiente para salvar o filme. No final, a mensagem sobre amor materno até passa, mas de forma **** tivesse um roteiro melhor e uma animação mais convincente, poderia ter sido um filme memorável. Mas, do jeito que ficou, Marte Precisa de Mães é só mais um filme esquecido da Disney.Veredito final: 57/100 – Regular.

The animation, while good, looks too realistic, like way too realistic compared to The Adventures of TinTin.

"Mars Needs Moms" is just flat-out boring. The story is bland beyond belief(not to mention showing signs of sexism), there's no sign of emotion, humor, or relatability, it's cliched like never before, and don't even get me started on how it's obvious only made for mothers to get more attention from their kids. Wouldn't have hurt to make the movie decent...I fell asleep while watching this movie, MIDDAY! If you're looking for something heartwarming, great for families, or even remotely entertaining, don't go with this movie. This really does make me ashamed of Disney.
