It’s a chilling, assured debut for writer/director Power, packed with promise and a startlingly mundane sort of violence which is all the more shocking for its realism.

What Backcountry did for campfire creature attacks Killing Ground does for murderous bushmen in the same setting.

I kinda like horror flicks from Australia...they never seem to disappoint me...

While the violence is realistic, the plot is rather formulatic and you sense we have seen this all before.

Convincing portrayals aside, this conventional story is further bolstered by Power’s sparse approach. Brutal as many scenes may be, the filmmaker imparts a sense of aesthetic restraint, knowing that waiting is often more unnerving than blustering straight ahead.

Killing Ground is an effective indie creeper that unnerves the audience with its all-too-realistic violence.

Lean and relentless, patient and pitiless, “Killing Ground” is the sort of thriller that gives horror movies a good name.

Killing Ground’s twists might be effective, but stylistically speaking, it’s sub-Eli Roth.

The main distinguishing feature of this film is its almost-novel nesting-doll plot structure, and passing thematic interest in its narrative's formulaic nature.

I watched this last night expecting a lot from this movie (because other sites rated this above 80 percent). I was HUGELY disappointed with this. The first hour is all about setup, and you have to pay attention, because it is in chronological order trying to tell the story, but bounces around. Once you get the story, and the "real action" begins, it is more of a suspense than a horror movie. I read that they compared this (and stated it follows) Wolf Creek--another Australian movie I had seen a few years ago. Another movie that was supposed to be great, but was also disappointing (except for a weird ending). Killing Ground was a huge let-down. I really expected a lot out of **** the way it came together was bad. Nothing scary or really gory (if you have watched horror movies before). Definitely avoid!
